“It wasn’t an efficient use of space,” according to Renée Frostick, Co-founder and Principal Designer of Two Birds Design. When she and designer Maggie Burley first showed up to their client’s home, the main floor was lacking personality, flow and function. A bulky front closet and powder room took up prime real estate in the living and dining area, while a spacious kitchen had an inconvenient layout. Watch this video to see how the design team totally transformed the space with clever storage solutions, wow-worthy wallpaper and a new kitchen and bathroom - no structural changes needed!

Very nice renovation while still keeping the DNA of the home. Doesn't look like an expensive renovation and it doesn't have to be to still look great! Bravo!

Beautiful family home! I like that they kept the clients dining and coffee tables, it makes it look more collected and curated. I also like that they saved some space with the wall hung toilet and integrated vanity, we don't see a lot of wall hung toilets here in Southern Ontario homes. I was looking to use them in a remodel a few years ago (I am not a designer) and I had a hard time finding one in the typical Home Depot, Lowes, Rona type retailers... but they function well and save space, are easier to clean around etc.

I always wonder if when the designer says, “My client really wanted…” is that’s their nice way of saying, “Don’t blame me for that. I didn’t pick it.” I love the green and the wallpaper. The kitchen reconfiguration works so much better too. Aaaand as always, because I’m petty, the rising intonation and vocal fry-ugh. STOOOOOP!! Lol

I like the green in the space. I question if the wall should have been removed at entry. It seems the kitchen is just as mysterious as the previous layout. The kitchen gives the vibes of a distant lover relationship. There are some quality finishes that I like.

The furniture upgrade was nice and the inside of the bathroom was well done, but the entrance looked significantly better with the original wall up. The wall had a closet and created a separate space for coat and boat removal. It now feels and looks awkward with the wall missing and that big, bulky storage cabinet behind the sofa.

It's always nice to have a little separation between the entryway and the living area. With the removal of the wall by the door, guests now land directly into the living space without any "transition" area. And I agree that the storage cabinet is odd-looking where it is placed, and not handy to the front door. Also, it's becoming tiresome to have the "irregular handmade backsplash tiles" presented as a brand new idea. Nearly every kitchen reno now features these "innovative" handmade tiles as though they were just conceived for the project. They have been so overused lately that they are becoming trite.

Agree. Now all the clutter (shoes, coats, bags) will be visible to the w tire living space. Who wants all of that visual and physical clutter?

The problem with the original layout was that the entry was very small. Only one person could enter and take off their coat at one time so everyone else will need to wait. Maybe they’ll wait outside, or everyone will come inside and then go back to put away their stuff. I know this because my entryway is like that and it’s awful. This new entryway is way more spacious.

Just don't like when the tv is above the fireplace it hurts your neck to constantly look up...and not a fan of the wallpaper. The layout is better than before....
