Hi Cindy, that sounds great. We always look to learn from everything we make. Always looking to improve the methods we use too and as we learn we share anything that might be useful with everyone else. We just don't always share all the times it doesn't go to plan!! 😂🤣 Thanks again for supporting our RU-vid channel. Keep moving forward, all the very best from us all. 👍👍
Thanks James, hope the video was useful. It doesn't always go to plan but we are always learning. Thanks for supporting our RU-vid channel. All the very best from us all. 👍👍
You are 100% right on all accounts! No one can learn without an OOPS here and there. I remember a customer that came into my dad's shoe repair shop calling him an "Expert." He said "I'm not an expert! I'm a master craftsman that is still learning!" Then he said, when a person personally thinks they are an expert their ego does not allow them to learn anymore." Being born in the U.S., but being raised on his grandmother's farm in Italy, his classroom was the great outdoors and learning to make and repair shoes and tooling leather. He came back to the U.S. in 1936 all by himself at age 14 to escape the black shirts. He learned to read and write in the Boy Scouts and the U.S. Army in WWll. He never saw an actual classroom in either country. So that is probably the reason he felt the way he did about the word expert. It is great that you talk about failures, or what I like to call an oops. It really is only a failure if one walks away. You and your dad never fail because you two brainstorm to figure out the problem so you can revise the product. My hat is off to you two! Great content as always! Take care my Friends!!!
Glad you enjoyed Michael and thanks for sharing the background with you dad. It goes to show how we can always learn new things throughout life's journey. I have to admit the term 'expert' is one that I am not too sold on either. Especially when it comes to working with wood. There is always something new to learn and we are constantly discovering different things and always looking to improve. I think it is a big part of why we love what we do. There is always an unpredictable element to working with wood too. We also love to show how things don't always go to plan. When we share the demonstrations of making things, the reality can sometimes get lost because we tend to focus on sharing the methods that work to help others out who might be interested in making things in wood. We tend not to focus on the times that things go wrong. We often get asked how did you learn to do or make something in a certain way and the honest answer is often that we learned to do it correctly by doing it wrong first!!🤣🤣 Thanks as always for your support, it's always great to hear from you. Take care, all the very best from us all. 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed the video. I love sharing this type of video too. It gives an insight into the other side of what we do, when everything might not go exactly to plan. Thank you again for supporting our RU-vid channel. All the very best from us all. 👍👍
Wow I thought I was the only one that ever had failed projects when make things I want it to be near perfect an people say that looks so good how do you do it an I’m looking at it an seeing mistakes I made an somethings I’m not satisfied with I scrap an start over Really great video thanks for letting me know others do have problems
Thanks Jerry, hope all is well with you. We have learned most of what we know by doing things wrong first!! We're always looking to develop and improve in the work we do, it is part of the reason we love working with wood. In our display room we have all sorts of items for everyone to see and some are there because we have made mistakes on them. We still often get asked if we would sell them though, even after we explain that we have made a mistake. In some cases people seem to like the items more for having an imperfection. Thanks as always for your support. Take care, all the very best from us all. 👍👍
Spot on Mark, it is something that comes with the territory. Always looking to learn and progress. Thanks as always for your support. All the very best from us all. 👍👍
