Here I look at "Glass Cockpits", the current standard in aviation instrument technology and give an overview of how instrument information is displayed to the pilot. We mainly look at the Garmin G1000 Flight Deck in this video.

0:30 The benefits of a glass cockpit are it makes the operation of the aircraft easier and also saves cost and maintenance by having an all-in-one unit so to speak. Normally though an aircraft will have some old-fashioned instrument as a backup just in case the glass cockpit screen fail in any way.

Million thanks to YOU. Truly a remarkable teacher and an inspiration for us all. Learnt a lot after a gap of few years of neglecting fsx. Kudos.

0:48 In the default FSX aircraft, you'll generally find two or three screens which display information.

this system was first tested on the shuttle and now every aircraft has it. The Glass Cockpit also called the HUD displays the aircraft's data on six LCD screens. Information displayed are The Altimeter, The Autopilot, Engine and Fuel levels, Caution and Warning Panels, the GPS, and Landing Gear and Flaps.

0:20 "A glass cockpit is an aircraft cockpit that features Electronic (digital) Flight Instrument Displays typically large LCD screens rather than the traditional style of analog dials and gauges. While a traditional cockpit (nicknamed as a 'steam cockpit' within aviation circles) relies on numerous mechanical gauges to display information ... "

I would love to see an autopilot ils lock on and landing in the glass cockpit Cessna. BTW, I have learned a lot watching your fsx videos... don’t stop!

Can the G1000 in FSX show the KIAS as well?

Thank's again, one of my local flight schools has a Cessna 182 with the Garmin G 1000 although i don't think this would be classed as a training aircraft for a beginner
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 8 лет назад
+silo granz Yeah maybe once you've earned your liscence you could probably have a few flights with an instructor but the 182 is the "bigger brother" of the 172, so more powerful, a little more complex as well. And I imagine a real G1000 unit will take a bit of time to get used to as well.

I have the FSX sim 2006 which comes with the cd discs. My outside view, landscape, clouds, etc. are not as nice and clear as yours. What is the reason for this? Do you use the stream version? My setting seem to be correct. Help!

Where is the glideslope indicator (the vertical line) present usually in the VOR indicator in the glass panel? or is there a substitute to the glideslope indicator?

Sorry for answering a bit late, but in case someone's wondering: there's a green little diamond to the left of the altitude indicator, which works the same as usual (if it's above center, you're too low).

Thanks again. What are those little X G Y letters appear next to the airspeed indicator and a yellow N next to altitud? Could you tell us witch version of FSX is the best?
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 8 лет назад
Those are V-Speed markers. As for the "Yellow N", I couldn't see one after watching the video back, what time does it appear?
@leopard6554
@leopard6554 8 лет назад
The yellow N appears in my screen. I dont what that means!
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 8 лет назад
I've watched the whole video through again and there's no N that appears on the Altitude at any point. I'm not sure what you're referring to.
@leopard6554
@leopard6554 8 лет назад
Oh sorry, not in this video. When i fly with FSX it appears next to the altitude indicator.

How can i plot a speed for the autopilot. Or is this autopilot function not included in those airplanes?
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 5 лет назад
Not in this plane unfortunately, speed has to be controlled manually.

Anyone ever notice how beneath the indicated airspeed strip on the PFD, the TAS value is always the same as the groundspeed? I've figured out how to fix it though so that it shows true airspeed rather than ground speed. Any takers? It's actually quite easy.
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 6 лет назад
Sure, tell us :)
@turbofan450

This problem is caused by an incorrect code being used to generate the speed readout for the true airspeed under the Indicated Airspeed tape on the PFD. It is coded to display the GPS ground speed rather than the true airspeed. To fix it, all you need to do is replace the incorrect code with the correct code. First step: You will need to edit the XML file which tells the simulator how the PFD works. However, the file you need to edit is located in a CAB file and you cannot edit any of the files in those. So you will need to create a new folder that contains all the same files as the CAB. So here's how it's done: go to your main flight simulator folder and then into the Gauges folder. Search for G1000 and open the CAB file (note, this the cabinet file NOT the regular folder). Now, copy ALL of its contents to a new folder that you can create on your Desktop or My Documents or something like that (you can copy them quickly by clicking on the first file, scrolling to the bottom, holding the SHIFT key and then clicking on the last file). Name the folder G1000. Now that you've created the new G1000 folder, you can find and edit the file that controls the function of the PFD. Search in the folder for "pfd" and open the "g1000_pfd" XML file in notepad. You can use the Find function to search for a line of code that contains the words GPS GROUND SPEED. The entire line of code will look like this: %((A:GPS GROUND SPEED, knots) near)%!d! This line is the cause of the TAS on the PFD showing you the ground speed. Change the text GPS GROUND SPEED to AIRSPEED TRUE and save. Be careful to only change that part of the code. It should look like this: %((A:AIRSPEED TRUE, knots) near)%!d! Now you just need to move the new G1000 folder to the Panel folder of the plane you want to use (the Baron, the Cessna 172 or the Mooney). The simulator will automatically use the new G1000 folder instead of the G1000 CAB file because, the new G1000 folder is inside the plane's Panel folder. That's it! You're done! I'm not even a programmer or a tech whiz. I figured all this out by trial and error and years of editing the code of the planes and gauges so I could get them just the way I wanted them (I'm picky). Also, a lot of "reverse engineering" lol. I'd look at the code of planes that had features I wanted and transplant them into the plane I was editing. The hardest part was finding the code needed to make the PFD display the true airspeed. After a lot of guessing and trial and error, I was about to give up when I had the idea to check into another plane that I knew for sure used a glass display and showed the actual true airspeed as well as the ground speed; the default A321 (I could have used the default 737 too). So I looked at how that plane's MFD was coded and found the AIRSPEED TRUE line there. Anyway, hope this helped. My email is tevine2@gmail.com

Which specific add-in is being demo'd? It seems like many companies make FSX add-ins for g1000..

Is Garmin G1000 a payware addon for FSX?
@Doofer911
@Doofer911 8 лет назад
+Safdar Muhammad The G1000 does come with a couple of default planes in FSX however it's only available in FSX: Deluxe Edition, FSX: Gold Edition and FSX: Steam Edition. The most basic version of FSX doesn't have the G1000.

is true air speed the same as ground speed?
@56independent42
@56independent42 3 года назад
No. Ground speed is a measure of speed relative to the ground; True air speed Is a measure of speed relative to the air in wich it is flying (tailwind will lower the speed, headwind will increase it).
