Good morning. I know, the subject is 8 years old but I am soon considering purchasing a BLA 350 amplifier which I find really great for FT8/FT4. My first question (I also have an FT991A which is connected to an MFJ 939). In menu 141 I selected the "external" position because the TRX is connected directly to the tuning box. 2nd question: When I acquire the BLA 350, should I connect the TRX to the amplifier, then connect the amplifier to the tuning box? In this case, do I have to go to menu 141 and stay in the "external" position or put menu 141 on "lamp". Thank you for your response. Kind regards 73's. Joel/F8MGW

Hi Joel ok here goes You need the AATU that can do more than the AMP can put out i.e. 600WATTS, I have menu 141 OFF, I use my RADIO then AMP then AATU, Tune up the FT991A with the AMP turned OFF use from 5watts all the way to 100watts then you will know that everything is TUNED with the Antenna, Turn the Power DOWN to 8 watts NO more then Turn the AMP on then go and test the AMP, Have a look at this video it will give you some idea of how to connect everything up if you need any more information regarding your FT991 and the BLA350 let me know and I'll help in any way I can, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CO1HzyRV2Bc.html

No I've had No problems at all, always use 8 watts and no one should have any problems.

I know you asked about the SWR but cannot see your question something to do with RU-vid, Yes you need to keep the SWR below 1.5 or you'll trip the AMP, SO power from the radio 8 watts and SWR NO higher than 1.5.

Sorry, I deleted the post because I noticed you had already posted below about needing an SWR of 1.5 or less. Many thanks for reply.

Hi, i have the FT-991, and i like to buy the BLA-350, i have also home build radio's, thats wy i like to buy a amp where the input watt is low, like 5 watt / 10 watt range, Valve amps that have that are expensive to buy, thats wy i am thinking about the BLA-350, i do data on 40 and 20 meters (where i do not use the amp) and SSB on 20 and 10 meters, thats a bit about me, now my questions, what is the output power of the amp in SSB, the legal limit here is 400 watt PEP, and i do not need more, what is the power in SSB mode on lets say on the 20 meter band with 5 watt input or 8 watt input with max input (what ever that is), what can the amp handle all day long with out getting to hot, not on key down i mean, but normal speaking SSB, greetings from here, thanks for the nice video's, 73

Hi Jos with 8 watts input you'll get around 300 watts output with out any problems, make sure you have a good ATU that you can use with the AMP or make sure your antenna is less than 1.5.1 on any band you are going to use it on, besides that you will enjoy the BLA350 but once again don't believe all the rubbish in the Manuel thats with the BLA350 DO NOT USE MORE THAN 8 watts, you can but you'll start to get problems and if your finals go RM Italy will blame you even though it says in there Manuel you can use up to ( Input Power 1-12w AM/FM, 25w PEP ) lololol so funny only 8 Watts, anything else you need get in touch, take it easy and enjoy the AMP

From 100 watts until 300watts is only 4,5 db or less than 1 S point, for more than 720 euro thats expensive for me, i did think that this amp did make 400watt SBB, 6 db

Hi Jos to me it all depends on your Radio, if you look at my other vids of the BLA 350 & FT 847 you'll see I got up to almost 600w from the Amp but with my FT 991 I get up to around 280w to 350w depending on what band and what antennas I use, but that's just me and my BLA 350 the blue one not sure about the New BLACK one

Thx I did see the new black ones, I did ask them in the other videos what they did get output of 10 watts SSB input power, maybe the new ones are stronger with new hardware and firmware, with a Elad duo or my iler 20m with 5 watt maybe 6 watt that's no problem, I am satisfied with 150 watt output, but I like to have 400 watt SSB with my ft-991, maybe the new amp can deliver that power, or ik have to buy a mobile amp for my qrp radios tot use on the base here, when i go mobile i do not need a amp, the battery i use is only a 3 cell lipo 11,1 volts 8 amp, and it will drain tot fast with a amp on it, but at home i like to have more power, a big valve amp like the Ameritron al-811 for my FT-991, and a small mobile amp for my qrp radio's I have to pay a lot more to get them than one nice base amp like the BLA-350

Hi Gary not sure what you mean?? the video is to show how you set the radio up to the Amp, so not sure about digital mode with no alc ???
@M0AOV
@M0AOV 6 лет назад
If your going to use Digital Modes with the BLA 350 and the FT 991 then you turn the Proc and EQ's OFF and just use your mic gain to make sure you don't really have any ALC showing when you TX and make sure your only TX'ing with 8 watts and you'll be OK with the Radio and AMP
