I agree Paul. I will use 4s for off roading. Maybe put 6s in it if i am on a beach but mostly i will run on 4s. But i was curious to see how fast it was on 6s. The box said 60 but it was a bit short of that. Cheers buddy
Great video Mr T...I love stuff like this where folks show how close to the manufacturers claims models can actually reach ‘out of the box’. Hahahahah 20mph speed limit and you clock 34mph and then 51mph...you hooligan hahahaha I’m sure a smaller/lighter car might have flipped as there was a distinct gradient on the road coming towards you, especially with that wind. And you’re right those tyres are really good considering how little they deform. on a side note, this is was clearly filmed ‘B.T’ ...Before Tibor - i.e not been thrashed in water or covered in mud hahaha 😉👍😎
Thanks a lot for the great comment bro. 20 mph was farrrrrrrr to slow a speed limit in my opinion lol. I also like to see how fast our Rc cars go straight out of the box. I always likecto run them as stock a few times so people can see. I like seeing stock Rc and how they perform before i buy them. Interesting on one of the comments in this video, but a subscriber mentioned that they buggies originally came with a slightly bigger gear on the motor and thats probably the reason why i didnt get 60mph. Its a reasonable theory i think. And yes this buggy had one run session in the snow and ice before doibg this video. But once lockdown is finished then it will be getting thrashed on the beach and sand dunes lol. I also have a set of dboots katar tyres on order for it. Arrma Talion tyres. I think they should work well with 4s and a beach. Hope you keeping well dude
Batteries make a big difference to the speed, its recommended to use 50c discharge packs as a minimum on 6s to get the best out of it. 4s is enough for what i use mine for, they are built like a tank, so definitely wouldn't want to be in the way if it went out of control at high speed anyway
This would definitely hurt if it hit you in the shin on 6s lol. I agree though, i intend to run this on 4s most of the time. 6s is crazy for off road conditions

Maybe the cold and wind slowed it down a little, i might have to try again in a few months. But i am really happy with the tyres. They held up pretty well and should be good for a few more mph yet lol
Nice! Apparently the original version of this came with a 14 tooth pinion and that’s how they got the 60mph. The FTX version has a 12 tooth pinion so a little less is predictable. But at least we know what to do to hit the 60!

I am liking this buggy Rob. I watched quite a few videos of them before i bought it. Gazfpv bought one at the same time. He has bashed his hard and it has stood up well. I haven’t bashed mine hard yet, but i will lol

But i intend to run this on 4s most of the time. 34 mph is fast enough on rough terrain and bumps. The 6s might go into it on a beach day though lol

wow! colleague of mine bought his son one of these, looks a great solid car. Not as fast as I thought it would be tbh but wouldn't bother me, I'm more into medium speeds say 15-25 to.keep crash damage down! Great video, loved the fpv shots. Stay safe!

@@tiborvon Thought I'd revisit this video, I reckon you'd like the Crushers. I had to correct the front geometry on mine, the camber is wrong for such wide tyres. Got so much grip on the back when on the power that the front understeers a lot. Think 5s might be the sweet spot. 4 seems a bit tame, 6 is a bit brutal! I think you and Tomley pretty much convinced me to get this car. A good call! 👍🍺🇬🇧
I agree matey. Ftx really up their game with this buggy. I wouldnt mind doing another speed run with it. I have some new batteries that are higher C rating so i think i might beable to get another couple of mph. But yeah, its, a brilliant buggy for the money. Glad you like it matey

Hello dude. Yes, i have had a few Ftx myself. I have a couple of outbacks and a mauler which have all been brilliant. i have the 3s outlaw too. This runs well on 2s but 3s seems to cause it to break gears. But the Dr8 is brilliant dude. I think Ftx have really up their game with the Dr8. It’s built much stronger and takes a bit of a beating. There’s another video of it on my channel, newer than this video that shows it doing a bit of flying lol
Very distinctive, wonderful and beautiful model, the outer cover, the tires and the large aids suggest that it is a large rock Crawler model The performance is greater stability and speed on the paved road better than the flexible arm models on the same road💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Good luck my friend 😘😘👌👌
Hello dude. I agree. I was expecting discs lol. When i did a speed run with the Outlaw, many years ago, the tyres ballooned that bad that you could not control the car lol, but the Dr8 is much better. I dont really intend on running this car on 6s, i think 4s when off road is enough. I also have some Arrma Dboot Katar wheels on order for it. Bit better grip and slighty bigger, so should be good 👍😉 hope you keeping well dude

Thanks Gazza bro. Yeah, i would have liked a few mph more really. Maybe 55 or 56 mph. But the tyres held up good. I was expecting them to balloon more. Those tyres have defo got a bit more speed in them Gaz. But it was quite cold today and very windy. I maybe do another run in the summer just to see if the weather makes any difference. We will try break them together when we meet up next time lol

Good point dude. It probably wasn’t. I tend to do the on board shots on their own, mainly so that you dont see a camera sticky taped to my car in the footage. I think batteries may make a difference though. So yesterday i took my M41 boat out. I have bought new batteries for it which are rated at 80c. Prior to this i had been using some batteries which were rated 30c and 50c. The boat didnt run that well with these batteries so that’s why i bought new ones. Yesterday i took the boat for a speed run. The new batteries were brilliant. The new ones are 5200mah, so quite big. The old batteries are 3000mah and 3300 mah. So after the speed run and just for my own benefit, i thought i would do another speed run with the smaller batteries in it just to see what happened in relation to top speed and less weight. But surprisingly the result was 3mph slower !!!! Which means, batteries make a difference Phil
@@tiborvon yeah batteries definitely make a difference, especially when you compare NimH to Lithium. Just lithium can be more dangerous if something goes wrong. I'm just slowly ploughing through your and SpringWoods RC videos 😂.
Nice and straight passes, bro. That speed is fine for a stock 1/8 scale. 60 would possibly lead to temp issues. 51 is about what my Talion does with the stock pinion. Tires held up good. Good looking car.

It was a very cold and windy day today so i am thinking that maybe this caused a little slower speed, maybe. I will try again in the summer months when it is warmer just to see if the weather and wind does actually make any difference. But other than that, i intend on using 4s in this buggy. 34 mph is fast enough for off road, and i have Talion wheels on order for this buggy, they are slightly bigger than the stock tyres so this will add 2 or 3 mph i think. I watched a lot of videos on these before buying it. Its the same as a Reely Raptor too. I got a lot of positive feed back from peoole who had them so i decided to buy one and try it. I havnt bashed it mega hard yet but so far so good. A good friend of mibe, Gazfpv also bought one at the same time. He has bashed his a bit harder and recently made it into 8s lol. He is really happy with his too. On the strength of that, another friend, Brads Rcs has bought one this week.

He’s always there on the weekends when no one is working and all that open space to play in 🤬 also did you see all the signs everywhere saying no parking and stuff ? Are they just scare tactics or do they have power ? Don’t think it’s public road is it ?
The security guy was there Steve. You can see gis white van in the video during the 4s run. I actually went and spoke to him after the 4s run and told him what i was doing and he then drove off. To be honest, i have no idea if its public or private mate. Next time i see a security guy i will ask him. Whilst i was there i just parked in the car park of one of the units. The security guys change like the wind on there lol

I totally agree. I have every intention of running this buggy mainly on 4s. As you say, its plenty fast enough for rough terrain. But also as you say, i might just out 6s in it when i go to the beach, which is something i do like to do. The buggy is quite heavy. It was the first thing i noticed about it when i was taking it out of its box. Then you add 2 battery packs to it and it gets even heavier. So yeah, i would say its a decent weight dude.
Is there a Bigger tooth pinion in the Box at all? I’ve seen two videos of these hitting 60/62mph One of which was a Voltz Lipo hardcase 6s 4800mah 50c pack . Don’t know why didn’t crack 60. 🧐
No Mark. There was no other gears in the box. Not that i can remember anyway. I am wondering if the wind and cold weather slowed it down a little? Maybe try it again in a couple of months
I think its brilliant Andy. I watched a lot of videos before i v=bought one but FTX have really up their game with this buggy especially when you compare it to the Outlaw. I would recommend this buggy. It’s been brilliant fun to drive and it has been strong too. I tend to run mine of 4s rather than 6s mainly because 6s can be a bit quick in the woods lol. I have also changed the tyres to Arrma talion ones only for a bit better grip off reading and for the beach. Definitely a decent truck. A couple of my friends bought one after me too. I have another video of it on my channel doing a few jumps in some woods. The only thing that is recommended to change is a little plastic bit at the rear bottom . I cant remember what it is called but you can get a metal upgrade piece for about 15 quid i think.

How fast is it ? Too fast for me mate..🤣. I feel like a speed demon if I get 17mph out of a Traxxas. Impressive speeds. I'll tell you what though - I didn't expect an increase up to 51mph just by going from 4s to 6s. That did surprise me. And at that speed you would have expected those tyres to look like old 45 rpm records, but they pretty much kept their shape. Impressive piece of kit....👍🏻😀.
Old 45 rpm lololol. That made me chuckle matey lol. But I agree. I have the older Ftx Outlaw brushless, i did a few speed runs with it a few years ago on 2s and 3s. On 3s the tyres were just as you describe. So i was kind of expecting the tyres on this Dr8 on 6s to be the same. But they were actually quite good. They can defo go a bit faster i think before turning into discs. But it says on the box up to 60mph so i would have liked a bit more than 51. Maybe the cold and the wind has knocked a couple of mph off ? But the one thing i noticed with this buggy when i first got it, was how heavy it is, then add 2 battery packs as well. Iv got the dr8 and I put a 2050kv motor and 16t pinion and only done 54mph iv just got a 19t pinion in but I’m now running a 2021 team corally kronos 52t centre diff in it so it’s gunna be a lot quicker

Yes. It has been fine but i agree, not the best. I have recently converted most of my batteries to EC5 and got rid of most of my deans connectors, apart from on my crawlers. I also have some higher C rating batteries thst i have recently bought, so i need to try them out in the DR8, which i havnt had time to do yet

Sorry Ian i tbought your name was Bernard. Call me Tib, dont ask!!!! One of my friends got a Lasernut and had a lot of trouble with it. Bigpoppapaul his channel is called. One of the comments on this video has explained why i didnt get 60mph. He stated that originally the buggy was supplied with a slightly bigger gear than what they have now got fitted. Could be a reasonable explanation?
I think my batteries at this time were not the best. I have better C rating batteries and connectors since making this video. I intend to try another run at some point
I've seen on a warm sunny day when batteries a warmer the ftx dr8 will get to 60 you run it on a cold windy day, that's maybe why you only got 51 watch Tomley rc, on youtube, he did his first run on a cold day got 53 then went out on a warm day got 60 on the first run
Yes i think you have a good point. And the batteries that i am using at the time were cheap ones with low C rating. I am certain that i could get a couple of MPH more with the batteries i now own.
@@tiborvon Also I suggest, getting a 14tooth pinion, as well as getting yourself some hub extensions, the extension makes the dr8 more stable as well as it jumps and lands better, looks great too, peace have a great day, Happy bashing
