Nice video. I changed every bolt to stainless, mainly because mine gets used on wet sand 90% of the time. I also changed the bolts to cap head for the motor. I bought a Typhon stainless bolt kit has most the bolts you need. would love to see a GPS run with that 15T 💪

They must have learned their lesson as ive just changed the pinion on mine and they had just the right amount of locktite. Ive put an 18 tooth pinion on, which is probably too high but ill see how it goes.

I still have the 15t pinion on mine which was the speed pinion in the box with the Arrma Kraton 6s and I have to say it's more than enough for me. On 6s the DR8 can only be described as "Unhinged" but I found on 4s it's more than fast enough and still spins up all 4 wheels and slides about nicely. I don't know how they've done it but the DR8 electronics do incredibly well on a 4s lipo compared to dropping the same 4s lipo in one of the Arrma or Corally 6s cars.

@@pipnmaz to be honest they perform really well on 3s also, ideal for shorter tracks, 4s is the sweet spot i think especially if they are geared up a bit. 6s is for blasting about in a large open space, or if the track has long straights

Nice info dude, and yes, Arrma put far to much locktite in their screws. I have been victim of it. But i have also just bought one of these Dr8. Not took it for a run yet though

You gotta use your soldering iron to heat up the screws and they will turn much easier. Just hold tip on it for a minute and then unscrew...Edit guess you know that lol

Hey Pip as you also got arrma do you drive this rig with any less due care 🤔 this looks so much like the tram associated Nomad db8 did you ever see that one? Does this handle much different from the typhoon 6s 🤔both being A buggy of sort, say we had the same diff weights in both rigs then would it come down to the actual quality of the parts used combined making the better driver of the two, tho it looks ok are the parts brittle would you say? Have you had many tumbles or any of the Ooooh that was a hard hit’ moments Thanks for this show Pip 😎

Hi, thanks for the comment. This is a very different handling car from the Typhon 6s - the Typhon has a much lower centre of gravity and wants to stay flat to the ground, all 4 wheels gripping and driving all of the time which means you can go much faster and with much more confidence but also will let you slide and drift with ease. The DR8 is much more top heavy and I would say much heavier overall which means it carries much more momentum when you're going fast - this means it will take some stopping so you have to plan and think a lot more about getting it round corners or avoiding walls. The DR8 also wants to lift a tyre when accelerating hard and turning and will want to roll if you push it too hard while the Typhon will just stay flat and start doing donuts. I have had several crashes and cringe moments with the DR8 but have only ever broken 2 parts on it - 1 was the spare wheel mount I mentioned and a couple of days ago I broke the rear hinge pin brace but in a really hard hit in to a stone wall in -3C temperatures when most people will expect the plastics to break on any hard hit.

Just had my ftx dr8 out in the snow 6s and it ripped currently defrosting haha
@pipnmaz
@pipnmaz 3 года назад
Excellent! The snow has all but melted here already and it didn't get as deep as I had hoped so I haven't managed to run mine in the snow yet. I finish work at 6 and it will be too dark to play then so will have to wait for another day with mine.

Awh shame for you buddy hopefully its snows again tonight for you, i like the idea of the pinion change wasnt aware you could do that how fast is it now
@pipnmaz
@pipnmaz 3 года назад
@@rcweed4820 I haven't had an offical GPS speed run with it since but it's noticeably faster and more snappy with any amount of throttle input. It's not just the overall top speed that's changed it's like the punch setting has been turned up but I haven't touched the punch setting. It's a really quick and easy job as long as you don't have any issue with the screws rounding off like mine. I ended up having to remove the entire rear of the car to get the centre prop shaft out to remove the motor mount but it's an absolute nut job now.

@@pipnmaz oh sweet man i rekon im going to have problems with the screws as i snapped the rear suspension thing and rounded the screws replacing that with alloy, iv not messed with the esc settings as of yet either but iv jjst purchased a15t from ebay haha, got 100k diff oil for the centre to put in at some point too, have you thought abput changing the tyres
@pipnmaz
@pipnmaz 3 года назад
@@rcweed4820 I have thought about changing the tyres yes as mine are wearing quite quickly with the amount of wheel spin and drifting I'm doing on road at the moment. I haven't found any tyres or a wheel and tyre set which I think suits it yet so still on the lookout for some suitable replacements. I'm sure the stock ones will be better on loose surfaced and won't wear as quickly but with the current restrictions I can't go to a quarry or a beach to run the car.

Did the 15 tooth pinion make much of a difference?
@pipnmaz
@pipnmaz 2 года назад
I would say absolutely yes it made a difference. The car was fast as standard but with the 15t pinion on I only run the DR8 on 4s now instead of 6s. Even on 4s it spins up and balloons all 4 tyres and really shifts. The ESC and motor in the DR8 is an absolute beast.

@@pipnmaz Thinking of upgrading the pinion to 15T too but I only have 6s batteries, will this be a problem? What's your reason not to run on 6s?
@pipnmaz
@pipnmaz 2 года назад
@@none-qq9lg I do run it on 6s, the battery I'm charging and show at the beginning of the video is a HRB 6s 5000mah 50c and that's what I use in the dr8. I will use 4s too as even on 4s the dr8 is plenty powerful and fast enough to have fun and spin up its wheels. You don't have to use 6s all the time with a car as fast and heavy as the dr8 sometimes 4s is enough.
