Fuel cap replacement for Honda 

Thank you for explaining the part on how to separate the clip. I used a finer tool to press on the square tabs to release the clip. I couldnt have done it without this video. 😀

Here's me thinking that tether goes into the car's sensor and electrical system. Instead it's just a janky anchor haha. Thank you very much for this video! Super super helpful to help replace my gas cap and clear a low emissions light.

Thanks! I bought a replacement gas cap, but it’s really not intuitive how you attach it to the car. Your video made it simple.

Another option that's a little quicker is to just work the ring off of the gas cap. It'll slide off the side where the hand grip is. Once you get the ring over the edge, use your finger to work the ring completely out of the groove. Then you don't have to mess with the clip. The ring then slipped onto the new gas cap no problem. Just did this on my Accord instead of what's done in this video.

If you have a 2014 Odyssey like me, good luck trying to reach the clip from the backside. Thought I would just break it off and replace it while installing my new cap. The cost of that clip is almost the same for the cap itself. Next, look up the price for the two little rubber bumpers on the fuel door that will also need replacing. I fell into this rabbit hole just because I wanted to replace the broken cap lanyard.

Recommended 100%. It's not obvious when you try and do it yourself. This took me 5 minutes after I watched it. 2013 Acura TL.

Thanks so very much I was kind in a hurry to change the cap of my wife car, she was needing it pronto and ended up receiving the new gas cap without the square peg cap wire holder did know it could be open just by pressing at the right place ordering one and waiting another 2 weeks was out of question and did want to go to the dealership would have want to sell me another OEM gas cap at the inflated price around 79$ !

you didnt explain how to open the tether which is really the whole trick. The needle nose does not "fit" into the square like you say (and didnt show). The tether is almost impossible to open. But thanks anyways.

Just push the retainer through from the back side using a screw driver or other long pointy thing. It’ll pop right out. Then you can open the retainer, attach the new tether, pop it back in, and away you go.

I was finally able to work the clip out but then needed a way to open it. I found another great video on how to do just that. You just need a bobby pin and to know which groove to fit it in. It wasn't easy to get the clip out but with patience and a few scratches on the car 😱 I got it out intact. I just had regular needle nose pliers though not the curved ones that were shown in the video.

Excellent video. I order gas cap from Amazon but it only came with cap and tether, the clip was not included. Used the original clip from vehicle and was able to open it up to attach new tether/cap due to your video showing how to open up clip. Thanks.

Perfect, worked on my 2013 pilot but had to remove the plastic body cover on the gas cap cover in order to reach the back of the push in plug.

Thanks for this. Yeah, I couldn't pass inspection on my Kia Sorrento, because the gas cap was failing the inspection. I didn't have an engine light, but I needed to get inspection sticker.

For me, I just removed the 2 10 millimeters bolts to remove the whole gas door and found it was very easy to get access to remove the plastic clip this way.

Is this a diy for all honda car year models or other ones too, and not hard than fix or replace the part below gas cap?

I know this sounds sort of junky, but I just used the original tether with the original wire and tied a knot with it around the new connecting wire on the new fuel cap. I went online to Stant's website and they have removed all of their application instruction sheets online. I don't know why, but I think they have a totally different way of installing a new tethered fuel cap and I would like to see what they suggest before proceeding any further.

Is there a reason you started the video halfway through the process?

I couldn't figure out the clip on the back. I used the pliers the just pull it off. It got mangled. The new gas cap had a wire to go threw that hole. I did so, added a zip tie. Cut off the excess and rigg'n 101

That fucking clip is a pain in the ass to remove if you dont have a proper tool. I was almost tempted to rip it off with a regular plier and buy a new clip

Had the volume turned off on purpose for the video and ONLY wanted to see the act of it actually being installed and fixed but then nothing happened. Frustrating and a waste of my time.
