This video will be the installation of Motobuilts jeep TJ 15 gallon fuel cell. I will go over how to install the fuel pump as well as all the hoses and fittings needed.

Pro tip of the day...... thread some nuts on those rings before welding the bolts, that will keep them straight! Nice video!

For the people that have used permatex #2, how has it held up for you? I sealed my pump with it and it stared dissolving right away. It got so bad that the sealant wound up getting in the tank and clogging up the strainer

Alex thanks! I don’t remember but I do know TJ’s 04 and up are different I believe. I got the part numbers from motobilt. If you want to run braided line they have those parts numbers as well.

For those with a fuel cell, can you start your jeep and look inside the cell. I have a 97 Jeep TJ and noticed that fuel is aggressively squirting out to top of the pump. I don’t have a return line so maybe this is the way the pump releases pressure, but I want to find out if anyone else has the same issue. The jeep does crank for a while before it finally turns over

What fuel pump are you running? Is this on a Jeep?

Yes. It’s a stock fuel pump on 97 Jeep TJ

@@TheTrevorthecool ok so is it coming out of the return line port? Pretty sure these pumps run non stop and what fuel isn’t used goes back through the return. Is there a reason you’re not running the return line.

@@CardinalOffroad I believe 97 to 02 do not have return lines from the factory. I think the pump is operating normally, but wanted to see if anyone can look inside their cell while the jeep is running to confirm operation. Again, when I looked inside my cell, I noticed fuel squirting out of the top of the pump like a water fountain. It is contained within the cell so it’s not causing problems. Just curious if that is normal operation

never use any type of sealant on aluminum AN fittings! The two 37 degree flares mate to each other and Permatex can cause issues with this.

What did you use to connect the vapor return line?

Gabriel Herrera I took rubber fuel line and hose clamped it to the original line on the Jeep right in front of the rear axle. Then attached it to a 90 that goes to the fuel cell.

@@CardinalOffroad so a 5/16 rubber hose slipped over the 3/16 return line... I should've known

Gabriel Herrera exactly. I even put a little fuel permatex on the fitting and original line for a little extra bond.

Gabriel Herrera no problem. What fuel cell are you using? I’ve had some issues with mine leaking fuel out of the top on sharp turhs and I believe it’s from the rubber seal they sent me. I’ve heard others complain of this issue. I just used fuel permatex on every connector this past weekend so hoping that takes care of it.
