I reviewed my live engine data with my Bosch 1300 OBD I and II scanner on my 1994 Mercedes C280. Yes, Mercedes was two years ahead of the mandate. My Long Term Fuel Trim was reading -11.7% which is out of range of -10% to +10%. I believe error codes don't trip until maybe 20% and by then a whole host of new problems could occur. A negative Long Term Fuel Trim means the car is running rich and the computer has to not inject as much fuel into the cylinders during each combustion cycle. One potential cause of this rich condition is a bad fuel pressure regulator. After taking mine out I was able to draw fuel out through my vacuum line port. Fuel is not supposed to come out of the vacuum line.

I just replaced my throttle body and my fuel pump on my 98 C230 and still won't run. I ran some test results and everything turned out ok. I think I'm going to try the fuel regulator next.

Is Fuel Pressure Regulator responsible for the cold start too? if it gives low pressure the engine starts in low temperatures with low RPM and turns off..Am I right?

Good question. I am not that much of an expert to be able to answer that completely. Maybe someone can jump in. Is your main problem a difficult to start engine first thing in the morning?

@@fixittony In winter only,I have to restart the engine couple of times. In summer no problem ,just starts from first try.

Did you get a better reading from the scanner.. also what are those pliers called?

My long-term fuel trim dropped to -9.6 after replacing the fuel pressure regulator. I was going to shoot a video on replacing my fuel sending units but I couldn't lift my car high enough to drain the tanks safely. Also, my wife would not allow me to stink up our garage LOL! So, I did pay $1000 for two new fuel sending units along with new wiring harnesses because the plugs were different. At the same time I changed a leaky fuel pump. After these repairs my long-term fuel trim improved to -7.2. I do feel the engine is running smoother and more power. I improved my fuel economy by nearly 2 MPG.

Do i need to disconnect battery before pull it out?

You shouldn't have to disconnect battery. But, should pull the fuel pump fuse to depressurize fuel system. Also, best done when engine is cold in case you spill gas when disconnecting.
