This video will show you how to replace the fuel pump on a 2007 Toyota Camry V6 with the 2GR-FE engine. The procedure is similar with other Toyota and Lexus vehicles with slight variations. The customer had been complaining of slight engine hesitation under hard acceleration. The ignition system was checked and there were no stored MIL codes. The fuel pump, however, was putting out erratic pressure readings (not deviating more than 5 psi) and the customer agreed to have the pump replaced with a new OEM Denso pump. This Camry had over 170,000 miles and perhaps exhibiting its age via a "lazy" fuel pump. After the pump had been replaced, the acceleration problem disappeared and the customer noted a increase in engine response. Bottom Line: Don't wait for the fuel pump to fail on a high mileage old vehicle. Get ahead of a potential problem with a fuel pump replacement PM (Preventative Maintenance) procedure.
Note: Always replace the fuel pump strainer with a new fuel pump.
Addendum comment and recommendation from one of our loyal viewers:
"When you're ready to remove the fuel line, start the vehicle, remove the fuel pump's electrical connection & allow the car to continue running until the fuel that was still in the line between the pump & the engine has been used, at which point the engine will stop running. This step will dramatically reduce the amount of fuel spillage from the removal of the fuel line."
