In this episode I undertake to answer the question, who is the x70 for? After having been recommended it by many subscribers, I asked Fuji Pro Rental Services, North America if they would be willing to send me a copy for review. They obliged and I had it for about two weeks. During that time I put it through it's vlogging, travel, street photography, and family photography paces. What did I learn? Its one of the best street cameras out there. If the x70s gets snap or if the Ricoh GRiii gets a tilt scren, then the ultimate street camera is born.

I totally get that. But for 28mm one can almost just point in the general direction ;) So the ovf is fine by me (never use it though). And honestly, for street a tilt screen is more important. At least for my style.

I totally agree. And I have one, that I bought after watching you review, Mattias. No EVF, no problem 99% of the time. The autofocus is kinda slow, but in manual, no problem either.

I say the X30 (although way smaller 2/3 inch sensor) is the way to go. Has an EVF, IBIS, and tilt screen. And adds a 28-112mm f2-2.8 lens. Good sweet spot. Not great on all accounts but good.

It's a 2016 camera not meant for vlogging. I've never used the movie function on ANY Fuji camera! Small camera, small battery. No one would expect long batter life from it. This is my travel camera and I travel the entire world. Throw it in the bag and don't worry about it. It's an OUTSTANDING street camera: small, unnoticeable, tilt screen, great at night, black and whites are super crisp, and you can get an entire Tokyo skyscraper in one shot. It's also good for getting everyone in the picture at big dinners with lots of people. A pro photographer friend saw some pics from it and couldn't believe it wasn't a full frame/40mp!

I use the x70 for street and travel photography. The image quality is great, and I love the jpegs. It is definitely not a video camera. I never use the movie mode, which I think was just an after thought. Your Halloween shots were great.

The touch to focus and shoot with tilting screen makes it a excellent stealth street camera imo. It's very silent and responsive to touch shoot.

I couldn't tell if your selfies bit was sarcastic/joke or not, but it kinda is half of why I love this camera! My daughter loves it when we take selfies and her smile is much more natural than if I were to take a picture of her normally. It really is a very good "dad" camera, as you mentioned. The camera to always have with you, and wide enough to capture your subjects plus the scene. But the record button is the definitely the worst button in history. It's like I need a pin to push it.

I like the Panasonic GF7/GF8/GX850 cameras better for selfies. I really like how there's a touch-screen menu built for selfies (can turn on timer and whatnot from there) and the best part, you can use the Fn button on the opposite side of the shutter button as a shutter button, so you can do a selfie with either hand. The big drawback is...it's not Fuji :)

X70 is my first Fujifilm camera and I loving it, then i have xt2 with xf23mm f2. X70 really good family outing camera and everyday usage.

Very nice review! Probably the best real world examples for what this camera can do. Our family mainly uses the xpro2 + 16 1.4 for family stuff, but always wondered about something more pocketable. A second hand Leica Q keeps coming to mind as well. Thanks!

12:00 I was going to say "For God's sake don't VLOG and drive!", but then I realised that's my Australian nature (driver on the right side) coming through despite six years living (and driving) in North America. (Don't worry, I haven't driven on the wrong side yet.) This camera strikes me as something small enough to be there 24/7 while doing everything tolerably well. There is sometimes something to be said for being a jack of all trades. The Halloween shots looked great.

Hi Andrew! While I always appreciate your opinion, I don't agree with you on this one. I think the one thing that the X70 shines in, is being the camera that can always be with you. It's the only Fuji camera that I have found to be truly pocketable and as such, it is always in my jacket pocket. It allows me to take great photos of things I encounter in everyday life and it does so with a lot more image quality than my phone. Add to that the flip screen that's great for shooting from the hip (with or without the touch screen functionality) and it's a great street shooter as well. I personally can't wait for the X80, if it ever comes. Cheers and all the best in your new home!

Street photosensitive sometimes travel for sure...It’s auto focus is terrible that can’t use for vlogging. But the quality of photos are really great👍🏻 The Fuji colors are rich that is what makes this camera worthy.

Just ordered one off eBay after looking at a bunch of RU-vid videos. Your shots and vlogging from the canyon hike and Halloween are amazing and so wholesome. Did you use a film recipe or were they edited yourself? Great review

The photos were awesome as was the 60fps video quality! But, that autofocus noise and shake was horrendous. It's definitely not a camera I use if I was a blogger. Great video as usual. ☺

Lovely photos. Love how one of your sons seems to have this contest going in his head as to who can have bigger eyes that are more anime-like/open, him or the dog ^_^ As for the second time you put it into continuous auto-focus... Wow, that's a lot of whirring that makes it through every time it changes the focusing. o_O Aaaand we have a hamster. Bigfoot. Who is this?!?!? Classic ^_^

Provo canyon? I feel like the X70 is definitely for Fuji customers that may want a smaller or more compact B camera for their day to day. The only reason why I haven't gotten it is because I know the replacement is just around the corner in a few months, so I rather wait 😄

Ever tried extension tubes for closer focusing? I love them. They're cheap and allow you to get as close as you want with any lens.

I bought this guy in 2021 for 250 euros and very happy with the pocketable size/iq / fuji ergonomics and look as I never intended to shoot video with it, it's a killer. But faster and sharper af + f2 aperture and closer focusing is needed from time to time. Comon #fuji bring the #X70S out !

Ha, based on your footage (not the vlogging stuff), I can say this camera can be used to film weddings (with a gimbal even more) in ideal conditions and the footage will be great. So, everywhere but not vlogging. I observed that the more photographic technology advances, the more less skilled people step in, with a lot of complains and hysteria when the camera does not deliver past their skills - not your case. Great video! Lovely family! I would love a video about your editing Fuji’s raw files on LR. There is a lot of talking about LG is not good for Fuji’s Raw files but when I see your photos I don’t understand where’s the problem is. Amazing photos!

Thanks! LR and Fuji are only a bad combo in one regard: sharpening. I don't sharpen in Lightroom.

Hmm, "reach out/blur out the background"? That calls for a ZOOM lens with a short telephoto at the end. (Like the X30.) I find fixed-focal-length-lens cameras boring. Oh well, I'll have to use a mirrorless SLR or a DSLR to get that "separate the subject from the backgound" Zoom/Telephoto lens firepower, or just fire up Ye Olde Canon Powershot G15 or Fuji X30. Video? Sorry, I'm a STILL photographer without "Orson Welles pretensions."

Ah, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I noticed clear difference starts from that minutes :). I got my x70 last year, still love it but hate its video quality. Now I am in honeymoon using my x100f while my wife uses the x70. :) Nice review anyway.

No, there was editing. Though I don't typically go crazy. I start with either Pro Neg or Classic Chrome preset in Light Room on the RAW and then go from there.

No one can answer that question but you. Fuji will give you some great film stock nostalgic colors. Canon will give you a lot more warmth and perhaps more true to life in the jpgs. I can't speak as much to other brands as I've never shot jpg with them.

The x70 is not for video ? Really? What a new ?? Lol.... iam a fuji user (x100t, xt10, xt2...and a lot of lenses).... the x70 is the most underated fuji camera... for you is just a selfie camera what a dumb conclusion... i sold my x100t and keep my x70 more pocketable and sharper lens. It a great all around camera and a great steal camera... nobody think about this camera for video... everybody know is not a video camera.... but just a selfie camera ?? Just a joke conclusion

I love this camera. As I mentioned, I think it's an excellent street photography camera. Selfie part was a bit of a joke. But that may have been lost to you in translation. What baffles me is why Fuji did a flip up screen for this and then make it suck for video. What other use is there other than for selfies?

Denae & Andrew wow your are very fast to answer :-) btw i love most of your videos ;-).... i dont know what i know is that fuji's cameras are all for stills not for video.... we will see with the xh1 .. i just bought a sony rx100iii... because i wanted something more versatile... yhea it s better for video but for stills.... i try to love this rx100 but the x70 give much better results for stills. The x70 is not a perfect camera but its the only camera who give you fuji color in a pocketable size .... (sorry for my english iam a frnch native speacker and i sucks in english)

Hundreds and hundreds of positive reviews on the xt2. I'm not sure a few camera issues along the way make those disappear. Canon sensor issues/ dead bodies, sony overheating, nikon shutter problems, fuji lockups, we're all gonna have to shoot with kodak action camera soon :P.

Actually, I would say that xt2's long term reliability issues definitely put into quesiton hundreds and hundreds of short-term positive reviews, unfortunately.

Time will tell for sure! I moved off of a 1DX and 5D III and there isn't the same robustness in the X series but they are also a much smaller so give and take I suppose. I don't live or die by any brand but haven't had any major issues with my x-series. I could have been lucky to this point. Who knows. Positive reviews ok, but now that the camera is getting older the issues are starting to appear. Il's obvious thy are not built to last. Canon are tough as hell, never had a simple issue!

lol, $700 selfies camera :-) fuji's hit it again ! iq sucks in fact, compared to gr2 or coolpix a x70 raws look like jpegs. it's ok for street, but for *real* skin textures you'd see how much it sucks right away if you come from ff world. it should be sold new for 500 max. i've got it used for 350, played with it for 2 days and got rid off it for gr2 (it not better than my rx100 mk5... but i need a pancake pocket cam, rx100's moving lens gives you away sometimes)... new gr2 were sold for $100 less and 2 yrs later they sell for 100 more when used... too much hype around fujis for their IQ, no wonder they all shoot jpegs, there's nothing you can do with their crappy raws :-)
