You are an absolute savior. Thank you so much. I was about to give up the whole system because of me not being able to sync my flash. Please keep making more videos, your steps are clear and concise just the way I like it.
Thank you I faced same issues with XT3, then I saw your vedios, I solved the issues, don't keep in silent mode, keep mechanical shutter and S mode, your flash problem solved.
Some photographers keep a flash permanently on body. When they turn on silent mode, it should really be called discreet mode. That is why the flash becomes disabled. It also will only work with single shot and mechanical shutter. Turn off silent mode. Turn off electronic shutter. Switch drive mode to single shot. You can now adjust your flash setting in body.
DUDE. I've spent hours trying to figure out that this is my problem with flash not working. Nowhere does it state this and no other youtuber has mentioned it during the countless fuji flash setup videos so far. Thank you.
Thank you thank you. Out today shooting in silent mode on my. X-T2, no flash working!! Back to the hotel, quick search as a subscriber to your channel and found this. Again thank you for taking the time to do this.
Great service JC.. I looked through manual and there is so little info on why EF X8 wouldn't work on XT1 .. I also tried it in an XE1 shoe and it still didn't work, I thought I had a duffer flash unit... Duh the XE1 cannot trigger this flash unit .. Silent mode on XT1 was culptlrit, all sorted now, thanks for solving this ..and I like your mantra.. latest gear doesn't make a better photographer.. These two cameras are beautiful to hold and fondle, they can provide great images ..and if u like they can involve you totally into thinking and learning so much more than just click and snap... I like to think about the crap I take... As I said I'm learning and have a way to go yet.... keep up the great work....
Hi Jimmy. Like Lisa said, you are a savior. I'm a pro and use the X-Pro1 and the XT2, neither was working with my EF42 flash, and it was because I was using silent mode for video. All fixed for both cameras with one step, thanks to your video. I am going to subscribe to all your videos. Thank you so much!
aww thank you. you would have gotten it eventually. i wish i wxplained it quicker though. i plan on coming back with more useful videos! thank you for your encouragement!
I heard there was a reason for it, but ... I couldn't make sense of it. hopefully you skipped through the blabbing and got the answer. I didn't think anyone would watch this. have a good day!!
Thank you so much for this clip. Since I bought my Fuji xe2 I have never known how to turn my flash on and I tried to ask many people but still didn't get the answer. : D
Hi JC, I think this might be the problem my friend ran into when shooting last weekend. She has the Fuji XT4 and the Godox TT 685 flash. When she put the flash on the camera and took a shot, the flash would not fire. I’m not a Fuji shooter and I don’t own a Fuji camera so I had no idea what was going on. I’m going to have her check to see if the camera is somehow in silent mode and have her adjust the silent mode. I will get back with you to see if that software problem. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful.
Omg, thank you for the tip. This handicap is driving me crazy. I'm new to dslr and I just bought a XT20 and a speedlight flash, I thought it was the flash that's not working, or I don't really know how to set it up, or my camera is broken! OMG, LOL. Looked on the internet too, people's answers are so vague: disable silent mode. Like where? Then after watching your video, I finally found it under Wrench/User settings/Sound & flash. Finally!
How about X-T2. I just got mine today, and I am having this same problem, but the menu is different from both cameras you highlighted, how would I go about fixing this. Thank you
OMG... I almost frustrated that I am not able to use the external flash EF-X8 since I just bought second hand FujiFilm Xt-1.. your video is very helpful and thank you so so much... :D
Muhammad Ikhwan whew! yes most often times when buying used like i did, erase and bring back to original settings. even then, some settings still need to be checked.
I know. seems like a silly thing to make a video about. But it helped me, that's why I go into such detail about small things. Thank you for stopping by.
Hi Jimmy! i write from Italy Europe. Thanks for your videos! a question for you: in a long travel it's better to take one big memory card or two/ three normal mem card? thanks!
You asked what does it have to do with the flash when you put it in a silent mode?Well XT and xe series dont have leaf shutter so it means that flash is triggered by the shutter mechanisms (mechanical shutter)that go up and down in your sensor to give your the right exposure.Putting it to the silent mode or electronic shutter,it would not fire the flash because the flash can only be triggered with mechanical shutter. But thanks for making such a wonderful video brother.
you're welcome brother.keep on doing such great videos bro. we really appreciate your efforts and it would really help us all aspiring photographers and fujifilm fanatics. Keep it up.
Hi Cris! I recently bought a flash for my xt2 and was wondering why it won't work. I was so frustrated and wanted to sell my xt2 coz probably something was wrong until I saw JC photography's video and scrolled down to read all the comments, so lo and behold its working hahaha. Thanks a lot man for your comment, highly appreciated!
Helloooo ! My flash isn't working... I have watched your video but... I cannot find the "silent" mode on the spot you mention in the video. There I have "Sound & Flash". However I change this mode. The flash won't work. And in the Q-mode the flash sign is greyed-out also... I have Firmware 4.01 installed. What is wrong ???? Please can you or somebody help me to get the flash flashing again? Thanks !! Grtz Lambert
I'm having the same exact problem. In the Q menu the flash is still greyed out butter shows a different symbol, I've tried changing just about every setting
I just had this problem and then realised that I had it set to CH (continuous high) mode - it will only work in S (single shot) mode, apparently (makes sense, I guess, well, a little) but it just took me half an hour with Google, to no avail. Finally figured it out myself. Hope this is helpful and it's not something like a mechanical fault.
Hello Jimmy, I have question for you have you done a video on how to set the XT 1 for uses with studio lights. I would like to know how to do that and I have look on RU-vid when I found was not clean I need more on KIS plan and you do it well and it makes learning a lot easy. Thanks so much.
On previous X series bodies (X-Pro1, X-A2, X-E1, X100, etc), one could hold down the "DISP/BACK" button for a couple of seconds and the camera would go into "SILENT" mode - that is disable all sound and the flash system
hi agen, yes that's true, now it serves a different function on the xt1/xt2. I can see why sound and flash can be grouped together as a neat option after giving it much thought. I suppose for people who don't see a need for it, its confusing. thank you for the comment!
Using the supplied flash these settings are grayed out for me. I’ve been trying to change this for weeks and YT isn’t helping. Do you know how to fix this ?
My flash sync menu does not show TTL as an option, just Manual & OFF. Are there other settings I need to set in order to achieve TTL recognition? I've used the same equipment (godox receiver/transmitter) for shoots before and it recognized it, but now suddenly my camera does not recognize those. Please help!
Jimmy, Hope you can help me Out i have a Xa3 and my Flash is grayed out and not working on (1st wrench option ) there is no silent mode option. i know this is the culprit because there is an icon the screen that its on silent mode. is there any other way to do it on Fuji Xa3s thank you in advance.
I'm currently trying to get the flash that comes with the X-T1 to pop up but I'm unable to do so. Can't find any other videos relevant either. Can you help me?
Amy Perez good auestion, that flash does not pop up. The xt1 flash that you snap on is just positioned up manually when you are ready to use it. ;) try that and see if the flash works.
On xa5 I go to “sound & flash” >> the blue arrow is on off. I click the left button to select it, and then it blinks n shows it’s on “on”. But if I enter it it’ll show it’s still selected on “off”?? Either way my flash option is still greyed out in Q option. Help pls
JC Photography i have xa3 too and flash cant fire 🙁 can u pls help us? I have tried to off the sound&flass in the menu, but flash still cant fire. When in Q, the Flash is grey and write Auto. How to make it ON For The Flash For Every Shoot ? Thankyou
Hi, I have just spent a frustrating hour trying to get the ef-x500 flash to work with my new GFX50SII. It doesn’t have a silent setting but I just realised, I had electronic shutter turned on. I switched to mechanical and it’s now fine. I couldn’t find this anywhere in troubleshooting guides.. thanks
thanks for letting me know. sorry for your frustration. as I've told others... I didnt realize people would watch this video which is why I rambled on. anyway I'm glad it helped!!
I have never used the flash before. Now I tried to trigger the flash EF-X8... without success... I did set the sound&flash mode on or off...... but doesn't work! I spent an hour without success.... I am a little frustrated ... Now I found the solution.... The pin connection pads in the camera hotshoe are very small so the EF-X8 needs to be seated perfectly for it to work. If I move the flash a little bit it looses the contact...!
Hi. I have problem with my flash and i dont know how to solve it :( it has sound when i click it but doesn't flash. And also it has a little light when i try to use the flash. I try to fix if and do a research but it doesn't work at all. And i didn't find the silent mode in my settings. Please help me im using fujifilm x-s1
@@neybour I will make more... better camera videos next month! I have a bunch of other terrible videos to out out first. then I can focus on the camera again!
I believe this silent mode and no flash is meant for museums and similar public spaces where sound and flash aren't allowed. I must agree its confusing to find and change. Thanks!
Hey! you know what I think it is... "silent mode" is "ninja mode." its so you can take pictures with default settings so you can't be detected as much - making sure no sound, or strobes of flash come from your camera. Silent mode is a little misleading. I think they tried correcting this with the xt1 - but it stayed the same on the older models. thank you for watching!
Thanks. Video could have got to the point much quicker though. The confusing part of the menu is that is has Sound and Flash Off - ON or OFF. You want to select OFF!
thank you for this clip but My flash isn't working I have watched your video and practice in my camera, i use the fujifilm xa 10 my camera isn't on "silent" mode on and I have "Sound ". However I change this mode. The flash won't work. i Please can you or somebody help me ? Thanks !!
My xt 1’s flash just stops working for no apparent reason. It works, then stops, and I’m NOT changing settings. It drives me nuts. I don’t think I’ll buy Fuji in the future. My sound and flash is off, but the thing just stops flashing. It’s very frustrating. I waste hours screwing with settings trying to get it to work, so what’s the point? It makes the camera useless in certain situations. I’m ready to go buy an old Nikon DSLR, if I had the money; I’m afraid now to go with Fuji in the future. I’m pretty disappointed in this thing.
Mine is a different story. The flash works only on "Auto Mode". Manual modes it doesn't work and greys out. Came to know, it was using ES instead of MS. The more advanced a device gets, more confusion it adds.
yes.. the more advanced, the less automatic things are. totally agree. Hey, you figured it out.. and many people will be helped by your comment. thank you!
