Thank you for making those X-T1 videos, very well explained and highly useful 8 yrs later. I use my XT1 in tethered mode with remote strobes and found that with electronic shutter, the Godox radio trigger is no longer triggering.
So I'm a little late to the party. The shutter sound in manual is an electronic noise that Fujifilm has added to enhance the camera experience. The noise traditionally heard when shooting a film camera SLR was the mirror slapping up and down which had to happen to allow the light carrying the image to reach the film. The mirror then closed so the next film frame wouldn't be exposed. So us traditional types were raised with that sound. And we weren't happy when there was no noise when shooting with the digital camera so camera manufactures added a sound to mimic the mirror slap. In your vid, you demonstrate how to adjust the sound volume. This ability to increase the shutter sound demonstrates this enhanced noise to mimic the mirror action.
When using ES shutter you may find your pictures are coming out with rolling shutter effect (Jello Effect distortion)... The mechanical shutters are used to avoid electronic Jello Effect distortion. Most current cameras use CMOS sensors. CMOS sensors readout using a scanning process known as 'rolling shutter'. Rolling shutter reads out one line of the sensor's elemental detectors at a time. This results in parts of the frame being readout out at different times than other parts. For example, the top of the frame may be readout at a time earlier than the bottom of the frame. When objects are moving during the scanning process the rolling shutter delay causes an image distortion named 'Jello Effect' distortion.
ES would be interesting in two scenarios: 1. You really want to be absolutely quiet, for example, during conference, wedding, sometime on street to be less intrusive; 2. Use fast lens (56mm 1.2 for example) full open in harsh day light without ND filter. In this case, hybrid mode would be very useful, ES mode will be used if the shutter speed goes beyond 1/4000s (at this speed, jello effect will not be very noticeable anyway).
hi Jimmy. i just bought a fuji xt1 & have to tell you that it didn't come with instructions. So watching your many videos on this camera has taught me how to use it. Thanks & keep it up
Hi Walter, thank you for that nice comment, I really appreciate that. Its a great camera because it can be used as a simple 'point and shoot' or can get as manual as you want or even semi manual. all the while, learning how the basics of photography work. I will make more videos with you in mind. thank you for the inspiration!
Very sound / good vid here. I always have a little bridge cam to throw in the truck. Canon sx 60 these days. E shutter only & a really small sensor to boot. Always impressed w/ the results. It's not my Fuji by any means but still, dang good results.
Hi - thanks very much for a thorough video! Well done. I'm wondering, other than the restrictions on ISO and shutter speed, which don't seem very problematic, are there any other restrictions/caveats when using electronic shutter vs mechanical shutter? i.e. can you still shoot in Raw? Can you still shoot using view finder only (and not in Live View)? Thanks again!
Hi! I just bought the XT1 as my first 'big' camera. I am a foodie, I like to shoot some pics at restaurants but my pictures are mostly unfocused. Do you have any tips? or can you make a video about the settings that people can use for food?
Hi and thanks for useful tutorials. I've learned a lot about Fuji system from your videos. One question, please. I use a xt10. My question is about exposure comp. Why when I increase the EC my shutter speed remains the same? what is the point of exposure comp if I shoot in Iow light conditions but still have low SS with all the risks of getting blurry pictures? Any answer/advice? thanks.
I agree blaise - Im looking into this myself! So my thinking is, the EC is an auto type of function that changes the "brightness" in a easier way. There are other manual and semi manual/auto ways to change the exposure, blur, crispness, etc, that you seem to be aware of. But for people who use auto, which has its uses for sure, the EC dial is there. I'm looking into this though.
Hi thanks for the video...i am planning to buy and after research, i think I will go for Fuji XT1 soon. This camera has touch, EVF, wifi, From your experience - Is it good for bad lighting and, quick to start? Does it have jacks for audio input, UV filter built in and Live view? Many thanks......
Yes, it has all of that, except a built in uv filter - you can buy that separately. In fact, you can get a great deal on a fuji xt1 because the xt2 is persuading all the lukewarm xt1 users to sell theirs to get their hands on the newest model. You will have no regrets going with the xt1! I guarantee it!
Hey interesting video but I'm new to the Fujifilm mirrorless camera systems. I do have the Fujifilm xt2. I shoot a lot of architecture abandoned structures and such. Would you recommend my shutter for that type of subject to be electronic or mechanical or does it matter?
80 percent of the things on these cameras we dont need. they are all bells and whistles for our convenience and to sell cameras. i love it though! electronic shutter is something to keep in your back pocket of techniques should you need it.. it wont improve your pictures, just possibly the experience depending on where you are shooting. just my opinion! thank you for dropping by! 😀
hi! i dont have a playlist at the moment. but if you click on videos you can filter through there. or in the search bar of youtube.. type jc photography xt1. also my xt2 videos will also help you since they are essentially the same.
@@jimmycphoto Oh too bad...i found your videos to be the most helpful.....can you at least direct me to the video where you present how to have only one little green box for focus displayed and set
Shutter election is blanked out in my X-T200 even in manual mode. Anyone know how I can change it? Previously I could use the mechanical shutter without issue.
hi tiago! I talk about it here, but it is the lance camera strap. I've tried others, this suits me best for now. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CSMf5aaicxM.html
great point duncan. I don't do macrophotography, but for those that do, ES is a great tool to keep in mind. Its interesting, some people like myself think "ES is for this." but then people like you come along and give creative application ideas for the same function. thank you for sharing!
u waste so much time on explaining about changing the shutter sound that will never affect the image quality. i watch yor video hopefully u will explain about the different picture quality between those 2 shutter. and sadly no picture quality explanation
