I’ve found a very useful trick for such a build in popup flash: try to stick on it (on top of the flash window) a small piece of white (half transparent) cooking/baking paper. It will work as a diffuser on the flash. The light will become more soft and gentle. And the flash will close and open without problems at all.
I use the built in flash all the time...mid day, low light. What I like about the flash on xt20 is the lever to activate it. Coming from the x100T, I like the physical switch to turn the flash on. Simple and quick.
Thanks! Yes I don’t have budget to get the latest greatest X-T30, so your series of X-T20 save my life! This tutorial I particularly learned a lot of basic about using flash 101. I should have learned it long time ago when I use my canon + exterior flash back then. Just doesn’t have a good teacher like you who present it in a easy-going way, without treating you audiences as “students”. Many thanks!
I appreciate the time you take to go into detail. Very informative and understandable. God bless your kids for being such enthusiastic models! I wish I could have gotten half of that out of my family LOL. Mine are 22 and 24 now and they still have beef with me and my camera : (
Interesting video, thanks for posting. It'd be helpful to talk about lenses and flash, because I realized after purchasing a wide angle (10-24mm) lens, that it's impossible to use the built-in flash without that awful bump ruining the picture (like when you had the lens hood to your 18-55mm on). I go into a lot of dark buildings and sometimes don't have a tripod or headlamp or external flash with me, so it'd be nice to use the built-in flash with my wide angle lens in a pinch. I tried covering the flash with a tissue to see if that would diffuse the light and clear the bump, but no luck, it just softened the bump. Moral of story: you can't use the built-in flash with wide angle lens. (My apologies if you covered this in the video, I didn't watch it entirely.)
The preview exp./WB in manual mode to OFF was a big help. I usually just keep the flash on TTL to -2 then adjust the exposure accordingly. Solid work friend.
Thanks a lot . Had a Christmasfamily gathering and wondering how to use the flash as a slight filler for my XT20. (Just got a used one )This video was so helpful🙏🏽
Your such and 'animated' person. I think you would be successful making videos while your doing photo shoots. Kinda like Thomas Heaton does his landscapes.
Very helpful and information video on the flash, but the star of video was your daughter!. Very cute and adorable, thank you again for sharing your suggestions and information on the use of flash. Happy Holidays!!
Hi! On some Fuji cameras the pop up flash and can be pulled by a finger to point up, so it can be bounced, also useful to make it have smaller impact on overall lighting in commander mode. Can you pull this one up, or is it rigid? Thanks.
Hey Omar, thanks for the video. Informative and funny as usual. For the first half of the video nothing was working for me flash wise. Couldn't get it to work at all in P mode. Then realized that I had Electronic Shutter on. I guess flash only works in Mech Shutter mode. Makes sense.
Great video! I had a camera Fuji X30 which built in flash has high speed sync (I was really happy for it). But sadly i found that the Fuji XT20 built in flash lacks of this feature. Do you think this feature could be added in the next firmware update or it is a matter of hardware?
Should have used The Flash instead of Captain America! Thanks for the videos Omar, they’re helping me out a lot. 🙏So much to learn still and staring to wonder if I’ll ever successfully get past point and shoot.
Nice one Omar. I wonder how much 'bribe' did it cost you for her to get along. LOL. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for making the journey of XT20 users easy.
Hi Omar I just got my brand new XT20 I want to buy a on camera flash that will be fully compatible with TTL on my new XT20 can you recommend me wich one to buy.Thank and by the way just by watching your videos made buy a XT20 and I love my new camera.Thank you
Thank you Omar (and your daughter :) ) I set up my built in flash in commander mode (I see the icon with the ''c'' below the flash), but I can't entrer into the "master setting" nor "ch setting" to properly configure my flashes. They are grey. Any clue why ? Furthermore I tried all combinations (A/B/C and 1/2/3) on my slave flash and none of them worked...
K. Adam Christensen camera is fuji XT20 with kit lens 18-55mm f2.8-4....i want/need more sharp and more detail and also more BOKEH.so i decide to need buy a lens XF 50-140mm 2.8 or XF 56mm 1.2..
excellent chanel, I own fuji xt20 as well, fujifilm flashes are kind of expensive, would you recommend an after market flash that I can use on my xt20 ? thanks
I like the Flashpoint/XPLOR stuff from Adorama (US). If you're outside of the US, check out Godox. The Flashpoint Zoom-Mini TTL isn't a big flash, but it swivels, and all of the controls for the built-in flash will control it. The other benefit is that you can then use that flash to control other flashes off-camera. The eVOLV 200 is tiny, but has the power of 3 of the Yongnuos if you ever want to take it outside. I've been super happy with that setup.
Hey, I noticed that around minute 6 - 6.30 you took a picture of Captain America with the focus indicator being white, after previously locking. If the AF-L icon doesn't glow green, is the focus still locked at that point? Or maybe back-button focusing will become the subject of another video at some point... that would be great.
Hey Mr Gonazales , if I were photographing a small rock concert venue with little light, do you suppose the little popup flash would be able to properly light it? I know it's unflattering , but in an emergency I wonder if it could do live shows
@@JimiCanRead last night actually. I photographed 3 different venues in one night. The popup flash on my Nikon d3500 worked surprisingly well from distances up to 10 meters. I was going to get a fujifilm xt10 or xt1 but I found the Nikon with its 18-55 kit lens and a sd card for 325 dollars lightly used , so i couldn't say no.
Hi Omar! Ive been following all your xt20 videos. I even bought the yongnuo 560 IV. Lol! Anyway. Can you teach me how to setup the commander mode? I couldnt figure it out. Thanks for your help!
Hi omar nice to see your videos for xt20, would like to know if high speed sync is possible with youngnuo flash or any cheap flash? I have heard it's very few flash option.
Not sure what you mean, "medium exposure"....BUT, the EVF works just like the LCD...so you can turning off "exposure simulation" for the LCD also works in the EVF. Hope that helps.
Sir Omar! Please help.. My flash settings are all graded out.. Able to change my sound settings and the switch to mechanical shutter.. When I go in the Flash settings, my TTL options are graded out.. I can't access all of them.. Just shows M or OFF.. When I pop out my built in flash, it doesn't work and shows a slashed flash icon on the screen.. My XT20 is 2 weeks old, I have never been able to use its flash.. Please help..
Oh man... I had the same issue before but it was because my shutter was set in Electronic Shutter only mode. Seems like that's not your problem. According to the menu the flash is also disabled when "Sound & Flash" is turned off. That is NOT the same as the operation/shutter/auto focus sounds. Hopefully that helps.
Your flash menu is so different from mine. I can't even get my flash to pop up anymore with the switch under the drive dial. My flash menu is super basic and nothing can be changed. Any idea if I'm being really stupid or if something needs fixing?
On the very left hand side of the camera next to the dial which alter shutter frequency / bracketing there is a small lever. Operate this and it pops up the flash.
I had this same problem - but once I went to menu>the wrench icon>User Setting>Sound and Flash, and turned it from off to ON, then it enabled the flash and all the menu options. Check and see if that's it.
Feel free to guess who just jumped the gun and finally ordered the X-T20? ;) PS: Your videos, which i watched since the first one, even though i wasnt even close to ordering the X-T20 back then, are really well made and entertaining. They are for sure going to help me understand the camera better, and for that i commend you. Have a great day :D
Great video, Omar, as the ones you uploaded before. A quick question, it might not be equivalent tho. I follow you instagram and wonder how you post the photos you took with XT20 to instagram. Do you transfer them through WIFI feat or physically remove the SD card and, you know. I always try WIFI and it does work but it feels like it takes forever and kinda frustrating. You know what I mean. :(
I'm getting used to the Wifi feature a bit more....it works fine to upload one or two. I think I'll revisit the app and make another video. Didn't work so great the first time.
Omar Gonzalez Photography thanks for the reply, it's not the OIS, my pre AF was on, 😂 i try your advice bout Manual focusing, keep those enthusiastic tutorials. I've decided to pick Fuji than Lumix because of your videos 👍🏻, shoutouts from Macau 🇲🇴✌🏻
I have the X-T10. Wanting the X-T2, but also wanting the X-T20. I still want the Canon 5D for outdoor portraits. Any thoughts HELP!!! I subscribed and thumbed up! #80 :)
Haha...you want everything!! There are a lot of factors at play here. I think lens is a more important factor. A 56 1.2 lens on your X-T10 I think will knock the socks off a cheap Canon lens. However, the Canon 50mm nifty fifty or 85mm f1.8 will kill the X-t10 (or x-t20).... think lens if you're doing simple portraits.
I have a question, i hope someone can help me because its really frustrating. Occasionally, i will use the flash in very dark situations. What I have noticed is that the flash does not fire if i shoot rapidly in single shot mode. So if I shoot, then a second later, shoot again, it wont fire. It will only fire on the first time. I am not changing the subject, i'm literally firing at the same object. I am wondering if my camera is defective. Please help. Thank you.
I would never buy a camera without build-in flash. it's not the best, yes i get it, but better than nothing. BTW: i love the deported flash of the Pentax Q
I had this same problem - but once I went to menu>the wrench icon>User Setting>Sound and Flash, and turned it from off to ON, then it enabled the flash and all the menu options. Check and see if that's it.
Thanks for the video! Any chance you would know how I can turn ON the flash? its on OFF mode right now and I'm pressing every button possible to scroll to another option but its not letting me. you think its defective?
