The FX30 is a completely video centric camera, no EVF (important), no mechanical shutter. But with cool video stuff, as in, custom buttons, tally light, screw holes. Cool stuff. I wish Fuji made a fully video centric camera.
The colors are definitely better on Fuji but the AF glitch is very distractive. It's basically in every sequence. Even in the first when the room is still empty but AF acts weird and you can see it if you look at the chair in the middle of the room.
@@botbot3698 that comes down to how someone exposes. I expose right below peaking and usually have more that enough DR. Only used the fx30 a tiny bit tho. I went with the fx3
How much does this tempt you to get an XH2s... But in all seriousness. SOOC in conversion from log to 709 the Fuji looks truer to life and is extremely pleasing to the eyes and really nice to work with. I picked my XH2s up for $2079 new, so it was an amazing deal. Please let me know if you have any other questions about the XH2s I've been daily running it for about 3-4 months about now and shot tons of portraits/videos etc. Also for the XH2s when you do the lowlight test!, the Fuji gives you the option to turn off all-internal noise reduction to give you more detail at cost of noise performance, ALTHOUGH.. you get to do post processing with noise reduction in DaVinci resolve and it actually looks INCREDIBLY clean when you do it like that instead of in camera. Whereas with the Sony what you see is what you get basically no flexibility with IQ other than detail/sharpness. I may sound like a fuji fanboy at this point but the performance from the XH2s compared to the previous A7IV that I had definitely blew the A7IV out of the water since 6.2k open gate retains quite a large amount of detail, and noise doesnt really bother me in the 6.2k opengate.
In Gerald Undone's review when he showed the true dynamic range in the lab tests, after applying light NR in Davinci, it was like 14 stops total BUT also 14 clean stops which totally surprised me. And if you had the fact that it doesn't have ugly chroma noise and that the noise actually looks quite pleasing, you could totally just leave it. I'm really impressed by this camera. I'm genuinely considering the purchase now... The only "bad" thing seems to be the insanely overly sharp image out of the camera, but that seems to be an easy fix in post or with softer lenses.
@@botbot3698 -4 sharpness in camera solves it for me, I do end up adding a tiny bit of sharpness back like 0.49 worth of it but trust me it's overly sharp cause you're getting 6.2k sooc haha if you wanted a less sharper image then DCI 4k would be for you. Also the mid/detail slider is another good option!! But I get what you mean with leaving the "grain" in for an aestheticly pleasing image, I remove it then add 16mm/35mm grain so I understand what you're saying. I personally do -3 NR and -4 Sharpness so I dont have to do too much post work in NR but the only downside i've seen so far is the lower bit depth in color when shooting 4k 60 FLOG2 and that's just about it. But yes the XH2s is an amazing camera.
@@botbot3698 Sharpness can totally be controlled with lenses, filters and post processing. You can unsharpen an image but you can never sharpen up a soft image. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qdytGXSKVls.html
Please stop it with the color science, man. All of you. Not a fan of standard Sony colors, BUT they can be tweaked. A LOT. In camera. That is why they have so many profiles in there and settings. Just go to any profile and you can change even the tint of the white balance temperature. I did that. There are professional tutorials on how to do that. You can have S-CINETONE even on a 6300 like mine, with some tweaks. No hacks. Then the sensor delivers friendly out of the box colors. There is no color science… that can not be tweaked. Even in post, like you mentioned. Just, do not discredit a camera cause of that. I also own a Fujifilm camera.
I knew it right away which one was Fuji! As someone who shot Sony for years and shifted to Fuji, I will never go back to those zombie green skin tones.
One thing that people never mention when it comes to Sony cameras is that they have more contrast look straight out of camera. You could definitely edit the fuji to look that way. I have the xh2s and I believe the image and motion cadence looks more like it's coming out of a cinema camera.
I find myself reducing the contrast a lot! I’m no pro color grader so I’m not super picky on the color changes but I like the Fuji’s starting point compared to Sonys
@MoodyDarkRoom I like the way Sony looks, but I agree on the starting point. Also, I like the montion cadence the fuji produces. Btw I love your videos, bro!
Quick PSA: Over-exposing slog was something you used to do for the older sensors, specifically slog2. It's something you don't need to do with the newer Sony sensors!
Love the color of the Fuji. It also seems sharper and cleaner. The Sony looks more 'video'. Big issue with the Fuji looks like the focus hunting. Sony seems to have that nailed.
fuji has a special look to it, especially if you shoot classic chrome with the curve set to -2 highlights -2 shadows, not sure why or how but it's sharp yet so soft and smooth, and the colors are at such a great starting point, so you can have a clean look with that, or take it somewhere else in color grading!
Hey! So I have the sharpness and NR set to -4. Don’t have my comparison up yet, but I did a test and there’s a noticeable (to me) difference. Having that and doing some work in post gabe the difference between a more/less digital feel!
Not really the images in the background looks flat while the Sony has a 3dish look to the image in the background like. Cinema. The Fuji looks like a super high quality phone
@@boomboombaby9140 haha you clearly don't know a thing about what constitutes a cinematic image. Have fun with your 15+ ms rolling shutter on the FX30, making all verticals skewing like there's no tomorrow, the viewers notice those kind of artifacts you know. What is a problem with all fuji cameras however, is a very aggressive chroma noise reduction which can't be turned off, and which in certain cases may lead to very perceivable color loss. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BiO8cL4dMYg.html&ab_channel=Colorizer
@@simonyoung1339 the fx3 is Netflix approved and the fx30 does 90% of what the fx3 does videos wise they produces the same image . What constitutes as a cinematic image can be subjective
Yes it is ! + the micro-pulsing AF signature 😅 By the way @MoodyDarkRoom, did you use the last X-H2S Firmware ( Version: 3.01 Last Updated: 02.16.2023 )
The XH2S is one of the only consumer level cameras that has a 14bit readout for video - most have 12bit. Alexa is one of the few that also has a 14 bit readout. It makes a difference for sure…
I know people will comment on this, but if you want to see the very best fuji colours..don't shoot log, don't shoot RAW. I dare you..shoot some footage straight out of camera mp4. Set your white balance appropriately. Decided your contrast in camera with shadow and highlight settings. Set your desired saturation. Just record. Hell, put it in eterna with auto WB and a small bump to highlights and shadows..once you see it, you can never unsee it. It will make you feel disappointed in 90% of other colour rendering.
How does the video stabilisation compare with wide lenses? - especially the IBIS wobble in handheld video with wide lenses, the corner wobble isn't great on the Fuji on say a 13mm Viltrox. How do they compare for walking videos (non static)?
I really like the colors the fx30 gives. With the a6400 being a cropped sensor, do you think the output of the a6400 and fx30 would be slightly similar?
If you were to buy a camera today for documentary/ vlog content, what camera would you choose, fx3, fuji H26, canon 6 mark ii, or any other suggestions? I also take pictures occasionally great content
I'm not sure If Its make so much Sense to have there type of câmera and think that color grading is another step, as If It is a time waste. Its one of the most important e fun part to work on......If you want to skip almost the whole postproduction and probably stick to yt, probably a good smartphone or a smaller câmera makes more sense
Im from the future. Camera guys the next few years are talking about highlight roll off. Thats why the sony's footage looks less cinema than the fuji. The highlight roll off puts the fuji closer to cinema
It's always the same on each comparison, sony always has like an yellow tint and this destroys the skin color i bit in my opinion. It's a really strange phenomen.
As someone that has used Sony for years, I can honestly say I’ve like the footage and colours of the Fuji a lot more. On top of that, I think the Fuji has more natural highlight roll off. The Fuji also shoots open gate, making it better for anamorphic lenses. Sony labels their FX3 and FX30 with the “cine-line” moniker and yet they are still missing important/basic features and assist tools. Sony doesn’t give enough of a shit to update their cameras, which may not matter to everyone, but seeing how many features are added via updates to the Panasonic and Fuji lines, its making it harder to stay with Sony. I still love my Sonys, but I feel like they are getting left behind, feature-wise.
