Welcome back for another wild review!
I am very excited to bring you this second GF wild series which is the newly released Fujinon GF 500mm f/5.6 attached to the GFX 100s II. It has been incredible getting to test out this lens and I really hope you enjoy the content of wild bears, gulls and horses, also all of the landscape shots as well!

Fujifilm USA, give this lady a new GFX100ii, 500mm w/ 1.4 ext, a full set professional primes, a slew of accessories and a nice, sturdy travel bag. She is already your best ambassador, just presenting her beautiful work. This is the best free promotional investment you could ask for. You've paid high end production companies millions for much, much less, without the warmth, humanity, honesty, charisma and authenticity of this artist. Don't hesitate. Do it.

Oooo this is such a lovely comment 🥹🥹 thank you so much! I thought maybe when I got to 10k subscribers they might make me an ambassador but it still hasn’t happened yet. Maybe in time we shall see. Just thank you for your lovely words - and maybe that’s why the reviews are honest and warm, because it is all genuine and nothing has been paid for. Sometimes I think this world of advertisements and sponsorships can cause that genuine passion to be lost. So there is a pro and a con to it all - although I definitely wouldn’t lose my passion if Fujifilm decided to give me loads of gear 😄✌🏻🫶🏻

Loved the horse photos, really stunning. The bear footage was beautiful. I am now desperate to see the bears next year, the cubs are adorable. You should run a bear tour 😊

Great review and great photos! Would be so nice to have Fuji’s own lenses on GFX. But I’m not rich so I adapt old lenses instead. Old lenses are still fun and good though.

I know, same for me too! but I guess with anything it is like saving up for it. It is lovely gear but I couldn't justify buying it as I am not a pro but it was great to use it!

Hi. Lovely video and images. Just got the 500 to use on the 100ii. Totally agree with the superb IQ and the ease of use, in spite of size. Excellent results hand held. Your experience tickles me to try some video. Thank you

That's a 400mm f/4.5 eq. FF, just like the Nikon prime, pricing is also similar. But the GFX offers much more IQ and flexibility ( especially with the 700mm of the TC 1.4x ) No doubt that lens will become a banger for the system !

Yes! That would be! Although I have never shot a hummingbird on any camera and have never seen one in the wild! But yes the limited shutter speed might make that difficult too on the GFX100s II but it’s not necessarily what it was designed for

The Fuji 500mm 5.6 is an excellent Lens ! That it is so compact and light weight for the 33x44mm sensor format is a great job done by Fuji, BUT all the other GF Lenses for Fuji GFX is too big and heavy, Fuji needs to remake all the other Fuji GF Lenses !

I picked up this lens with the 1.4TC and 100 II body to go along with my Canon R3 and RF600 F4. For larger slower wildlife I think it will be great and with the teleconverter it will be good for perched birds also. I can see this really shining in places like Yellowstone or the Tetons in the US for bison, elk and moose and also in Africa for all the larger mammals there.

Fantastic review and photos. One question: do you prefer the xh2 with the 200 mm f2 with the teleconverter 1.4 or this gfx with the 500mm? Pure geek question as I can not afford both 😂😂😂

Nothing wrong with a pure geek question!! It’s a hard choice to be honest. I think just because of the filming element I would actually pick the XH2s with the 200mm. Purely for photography.. I don’t know. They were both great fun to use. I like the crop element and the reach with the 500mm but I love the aperture on the 200mm. So maybe the 200 with my XH2s so I can do photography and 4K slow motion filming 😄😄 but photography wise, the quality of the GFX series is outstanding, so it is a hard choice!

@@wildandfreevictoria I went to Skomer for my annual visit on 5th July, much later than before and, like you, found very few puffins. One of the volunteers said this was due to a storm the previous day, not convinced and will make sure I revert to late May/early June next year. Love your videos, keep em coming! Best wishes. Terry

I don't have to look at you anymore, otherwise I'm going crazy. Although I have cameras of almost all formats (digital) except the medium format I would like (actually I had a Hasselblad 500 CM) but the high cost between body and lenses holds me back a lot. The choice between a Hasselblad X and a Fuji GF is embarrassing. Every Saturday I play a lottery slip. Anyway seriously, does that 500mm GF match, compared to the full frame, the 320mm focal length? Don't you have a teleconverter? Too bad it's f/5.6 and not f/2.8 I knew it's not suitable for fast photos typical of the medium format system. The photos you took are beautiful.

Hi Victoria, could I get a 35 mm convertion of the lens? it's 500 mm f5.6, but for 35 mm, it is 400 mm with f4.5 DoF, but f5.6 of light gathering?

I think you have done the conversion pretty much yourself there. It is 396mm on a full-frame (35mm) camera. Hope that helps!

Yes one of the bees was a cropped image - the one where it takes up most of the frame. I am not sure of the magnification as it was a random crop on Lightroom but it’s definitely over 50%. I believe the minimal focusing distance is around the 2.75m mark, I was around 5/6m for this shot

I own the GFX 100s ii ....it's amazing its incredible 😲...the lens would be inscribe...look GFX is so.much lighter now 883 grams is lighter than the z8 ....yup

it's a shame I wouldn't be to use this at low light or at night with high shutter speed.

You can use it in low light, you can actually put the ISO pretty high with the medium format and the images are still clear. Low light is fine though, lots of my shots were in low light. At night you can’t use a high shutter speed anyway - if you are using synthetic light because you get lines in your images
