@@cameralabs Could I ask, does the printer produce better images? Eg, the quality, sharpness from our fujifilm camaras is not lost
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 3 года назад
@@TheCoomer the quality is definitely better when printing photos from 'proper' cameras, but there's still the Instax look and feel to them which you may or may not like. Try comparing the photos from this review with those from my instax camera reviews.

@@cameralabs Thank you, I have watched all your reviews on the printers. All very informative, I'm now undecided what would be the better system or look I would like to have /offer when at partys and weddings, events etc. The 'Ribbon' type printers look fantastic as the image is perfect. However giving out images super quickly with a Polaroid look does have it's charm. The question is though what system would last the longest. It looks like the fujifilm system is here to stay but getting the ribbon machines the paper could be discontinued

Gordon Laing, thanks for the tip, i am not familiar with printers at all, i have a nice Epson I bought last year, I was going to buy instax printer for the practicality but that canon printer looks good, and it's really cheap as well. Not to be a killjoy, but this video points up the main problem with these printers when Gordon pulls out the ejected protective plastic cover and says, “and you just take that and, get rid of it,” as he tosses it out of frame. These film packs produce a huge amount of plastic waste. Recycling or more creative options like this one (www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/recycled-instax-film-cartridge-frames) are only partial remedies. Fujifilm should explore corn-based biodegradable plastics as a less indestructible option.

Hi, i just bought this printer for an artistic project. 1st I find, the software is poor with their limited options. But the real frustrating issue: I print from an ipad mini, pictures out of my apple "photo" collection. These photos are either taken by iphone, ipad Mini or ipad pro, or taken by camera and then uploaded in icloud photo or as a screenshot on my mac and then also uploaded in icloud photo. What happens is: When I select any photo in my icloud photo archive to print, it mostly says "this photo cannot be used". And this is independent, from which source the selected photo came, nor if it ist an older one or just freshly made. Sometimes within hunderd that I try, there is not a single one, that can be printed, and then come 10 which work and then again 10 that cannot be used - even from the same serie, same camera, same date, same size. I have to say: the picture quality is surprisingly good, but this fact is nothing than frustrating and - in case there was any problem, why some of the pictures cannot be used, as a customer I would at least expect an explanation, why.

Just bought one of these. Also own the canon printer. The canon one is I have is quite a faff with inserting the paper cartridge in the front and opening flaps and plugging it all in to use. This is really simple and convenient. The auto shut off is a pain since the iPhone doesn’t automatically connect back to the printer and goes back to WiFi instead. If you’re ever up in Leeds I’ll buy you a few coffees.

Hi Gordon. Great review and demonstration of how this printer works. But is it better than the Canon Selphy CP1300 you reviewed a few weeks ago? It's more expensive. In the US the Canon sells for about $100 less than this Fuji and the prints are considerably larger.

I’m looking for durability (of the photos), image quality, and an app that has some fun options (but I also don’t want to get distracted by the “fluff”). Hi Gordon, I was bought the Fujifilm Instax Square SQ10 as a gift but I’m wondering if I should just trade it in for this printer instead? My logic being that I can then print any photos I like from my phone later on as opposed to having to carry around the actual camera all the time. What’s your opinion? In terms of image quality which menthod do you think would give me a better outcome? I currently have an IPhone 7. Thanks :)
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 5 лет назад
The image quality will be similar as it's mostly limited by the instant printing process here and of course the size of the prints. Obviously being able to print from other devices gives you greater flexibility, especially compositionally, but mostly it'll boil down to whether you want a printer or a basic camera that can print.

Hey Gordon, wonderful review! I have a little dilemma: I love square format instant photos, therefore the new SQ10 and the SP-3 are both up my alley. I like holding and taking photos with an instant camera, at the same time I also love how the SP-3 can print photos from my smartphone. I just don't know if I should purchase the Instax SQ10 or the SP-3, because I feel like the SP-3 can pretty much do everything the SQ10 can (and it's cheaper), but I also really love the imperfect and retro image quality of an instant camera. What are your thoughts? Please help me out!
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 6 лет назад
Weeeeell, the SQ10 uses a digital sensor, so it's feeding its square printer with a digital file, just like your phone will do to the SP3. So between them I'd go for the SP3, and the prints it makes do still have a retro feel to them. But yes, the fully analogue Instax Mini does look a bit different still.

I'm gagging for two of these, one black and one white, one for me and one for a Christmas present, but they're still not available for preorder, unlike in the US. C'mon, Fuji!

Im in between getting this one and the Selphy CP 1300. Which one would you recommend better in cost (film, ink), quality and function?
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 6 лет назад
The CP1300 is much cheaper to run: as I said in this video, the prints are larger and cheaper. But there's an aesthetic appeal to the instant prints, plus the printer can be operated anywhere, even in your hands. It's all discussed in the video.

Gordon Laing which one would you go with? Since you have tried both

if you don't feel an emotional connection to the Instax format or don't need the wireless connectivity with a Fuji camera, then I'd get the Canon.

Is square film the only comparable film with this printer?

I think so

Does this printer connect to the phone directly with the home network?
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 6 лет назад
It doesn't use a home or public network. The printer creates its own access point which the phone or Fuji camera connects directly to. So it'll work at home or in the middle of a field!
@12happycamper
@12happycamper 6 лет назад
I'll take note on that. I got a selphy printer from canon and everything is convenient except from phone app that really terrible and cant connect directly to android phone. Surely ill grab one of this sp3 ,The only slight downside of sp3 printer is the consumables (cost of prints) but who care , i like nostalgia and instant gratification of seeing it prints right before your eyes. well thanks for the respons.
@eug3r

If the printer is an access point, does this limit any internet access on the phones when on the home wireless network? I'm interpreting that you have to connect to the printer on wireless, thus wouldn't be able to access the internet until you're done printing. Thought I'd clarify as it almost sounds counter intuitive and a strange solution. Blue tooth may have been a more elegant solution :)

Gordon did a review of the Canon Selphy CP1300 which in the US sells for $100 less than this Fuji printer, and the prints are larger (4 x 6 inches) and cheaper. I have a similar Canon Selphy which I have had for about 5 years, which still works great and print image quality is excellent.

How does the ink works? Does it need to recharge it or not?
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 2 года назад
thee ink is built into the paper. It has a rechargeable battery inside the printer.

I have a quick question for ya hope you can see this and kindly answer me. I also got the sp-3 printer but the thing is one tiny little cylindrical thingy came with it and i so wonder what that is for if you know what i am talking about. It wouldve been so much easier if i could attach its picture.
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 6 лет назад
Sorry I'm not sure what that would be. As I recall, it's just the printer and the self-contained cartridge.

I honestly don't know. I show everything that came with mine in the video. You should be asking Fujifilm, or the shop or checking the instructions!

Thanks for such a well-presented review and demo. Co-incidentally, I've been wondering about getting a mobile printer recently and this looks like a great option but I can't find it for sale in the UK yet. Do you have any news about its availability here please?
@cameralabs

Fujifilm UK were saying mid-November, now they’re saying early December. It’s a shame they didn’t have them available just when the early reviews were appearing. A marketing goof, I would say (and I’m a retired marketing manager!).

Amazon UK added it today (Dec 1) for pre-order. The white one at the MRP, the black one at a premium price, delivered from Latvia! I've ordered a white one (via your Amazon link, #Gordon Laing) but I'll pass on the black one until Amazon Prime lists it or FujiFilm UK has them in stock.
