@@antimotivation10I am in Bali, Indonesia. The camera never overheat while shooting photos. I can't speak for video because I rarely shot long videos.
@@BrooklynCapo1 I just got mine. EVF seems to get some negative comments from reviewers. I was expecting something worse than I got, especially since I'm used to the H1 EVF. Actually it's better than expected and I have no problem using it.
The X-S10 is a fantastic camera and now I need the S20. My biggest complaint about the S10 is that battery and now they fixed it. Also the "beetles" you found are actually a type of bug (order hempitera), a mixture of juveniles and adults., but as I am unsavvy on Canadian bugs, I cannot help with a species iD.
Indeed Chris and Jordan, we miss some good old comparisons of cameras (plus best lenses recommendations) here!! My wishlist: The Fujifilm X-S20 vs either the R7 or R8 from Canon vs either the z5 or Z 6 II from Nikon vs. the Panny S5 II. Please deliver already yesterday, not only tomorrow :-)
If anyone has opinions/experience, what would you choose between Sony A6600 and Fuji XS20? Both on sale atm where I live; the A6600 with the 18-135mm kit lens ~ 1400USD and XS20 15-45mm ~ 1370USD? 🌼
I notice when recording in 6.2K, I can go the full 45 minutes. When recording normal 4K or 1080p I actually get a few minutes less recording time. All done in 10 bit 4.2.2. This can’t be right. Anyone else experiencing those odd recording limits?
Bug photographer here - those red fellas are Boxelder Bugs (technically true bugs and not beetles). That's a group of adults and nymphs clustered together there, probably feeding on the seeds from that little boxelder maple tree right above them!
There has been great advancements from all brands, and the prices are lower if you take the inflation in the account. I think 2022, 2023 and 2024 are and will be the best years for camera industry, the brands are putting all projects that were stopped because the pandemic and chip shortage. Fuji XH2S and XH2, Nikon Z8, Canon great midrange, Panasonic S5IIX, etc. And just wait for the end of 2023 and all 2024. Canon R5II, Canon R1, Panasonic S1 line with PDAF, Nikon high end APSC, etc.
Or they could make their OWN channel and stop trying to sell out. They clearly have a very large audience and well more than enough views to sustain a comfortable living. I don’t get the draw to sign on with 3rd parties
As a current fujifilm users and an ex Sony shooter. Hell of a fight between this XS20 vs the A6700. I personally like the Fujifilm IBIS better than Sony. And the new fujifilm autofocus algorithm definitely makes fujifilm a more competitive brand.
It feels like APS-C is having a bit of a renaissance in 2023 after Full Frame seemed to be all the rage over the last few years. Seeing both a string of new APS-C bodies as well as a bunch of new APS-C lenses across multiple mounts is really making me wonder if I still want to lug around my A7IV setup. Now we need Canon to open their mount to third parties so that there’s more competition on the market.
I like the compact nature of the A6700 and X-S20, but I will never buy a camera with a 10 year old EVF. Nothing major has changed with the EVF since the x-t10 and a6300. Give me something like 4 or 6 million dots, I would pay the premium.
@@arvidjohansson3120 I totally agree, but if you are looking for a compact APS-C body what are your options? All 4 cameras in this category, Sony a6700, Fuji X-S20, Canon R7 (which for me doesn't fit in the compact category) and Nikon Z50, use the same viewfinder. So does the OM-5. You have to get into the larger Fuji bodies, X-T5 and X-H2 to get a better VF., and those both significantly heavier, especially the X-H bodies. For me, bottom line is, the A6700 is a reasonable upgrade over the A6600, but not what I was hoping for. It's only a "flagship" because there is nothing better in the Sony APS-C lineup.
I too am totally fine with the 26mp sensor and more mainstream control approach. Having rented the SX10, and seeing the new model’s improvements, this SX20 would be my point of entry into the Fuji system.
I upgraded from X-S10 to X-S20 because it resolves the main demerits on the former generation: battery life, auto focus and video capacity on 4K60&HDR. Now it can meets all my needs and I’m pretty satisfied with it!
@@ripcamera This is true, but with the 1.63x crop, the usability of this mode is somewhat hindered. It's a choice between 6.2k open gate or 120fps with a big crop - I'm glad that both exist on the market :)
@@ripcamera Having this option is indeed better than not having it, but since a6700’s 4K120 has a significant crop, I don’t think this function would be very practical for cameras at this price.
And IBIS, Dynamic Range in FLOG2 vs SLOG3 (is the 1250 base ISO a hinderance vs 800 on the Sony?), the extended ISO range in low light, lens corrections in video and video battery life :)
Got it as an upgrade to my X-T3 for video. It's a wonderful camera so far. I was worried about having to cough up extra change for the XH2s but I'm glad the X-S20 came out.
This has nothing to do with the X-S20, but I recently stumbled across the Unsung Cameras of Yesteryear videos back on TSCTV and remembered how much i missed that series. It was so interesting and so much fun. I really hope you guys would consider reviving it!
I'm an X-S10 lover, and this looks like a worthy upgrade. I agree with the sentiment that the new processor and new battery are more important upgrades in this camera than the new sensor would have been. The subject detection modes, animal eye detection, autofocus improvements, new video modes, and the several other minor features are huge steps over the X-S10. I'm not going to run out and buy one today, but when the body inevitably goes on sale, you better believe I'm picking one up. Overall, it's great to see Fuji invested in the X-S line.
Yes, almost every single thing I didn't like about my X-S10 was fixed: no more crappy battery (2 hours footage on 1 battery!), no corner wobbles with wide lenses, way better autofocus (still no tap to track though), 10bit 4:2:2 in camera (14 stops in FLOG2 is incredible, slightly better than the X-H2 even!), no record limit, 4k60 for great b-roll, LCD is way better (I didn't expect this to make as much of a difference as it does), IBIS is as good as flagships, plus an unexpected massive bonus of 6.2k open gate - I am the owner of a small business and being able to crop for portrait and landscape from the same video should save a lot of time! -- I'm still keeping the X-S10 for when I want multiple angles and dynamic range isn't as critical :)
Well, I like the X line Retro controls, but have no issues or dislike of the more in keeping with traditional camera styling. What have issue with is the addison of or any inclusion of Video.I love it if Fuji made a Twin to this minus the video I have no need for or love for and made a few other value added features for a True Stills Camera. At this point in time they'd be in a retro sense ahead of the curve. Which I suppose depends on your perspective. And they could approach it in one of two ways make it less expensive with just minor upgrades to this level say the higher resolution view finder. Or they could go slightly more expensive and come closer in specs to their Higher End units sort of splitting the difference price wise and some options close to their XH2 and XH2s. But then this for some is what dreams are made of and don't always come true. That said, since is close to the XT 4 / 5 and has leanings in the XH2 direction I will certainly give it a look see. One option I wish it had is what Olympus calls Live Bulb. I didn't hear any mention of in camera Image Stacking which hopefully it incorporates in it's menu options. I'll be deep diving to see. Thanks for the review as I hadn't even realized it was a thing and now I know.
@@giovannispinosa182 The read out in 4k60 is 16ms and in 6.2k it's 20ms on the X-S20, that's not bad! - Unless you are doing mission critical professional stuff with very fast and heavy panning, you really can't see any difference. It's better than on the X-H2 which does 30ms. So I don't think most people will miss much here.
It's a shame that Nikon haven't any offer in the APSC range with specs that match Sony, Canon or Fuji. It's the Nikon's way, maybe in 2024 they will bring a shuterless mirrorless "D500" camera, with stacked fast sensor and all the power of the Z9 processor.
Getting an APS-C body from Nikon would be one thing but getting more lenses would be much better. It has been years since my D500 initial purchase and I am still waiting for Nikon lenses for that format. At least the likes of Tamron and Sigma have picked up the gap there.
Ya maybe got photography but for video graph nikon is.fsr behind except for its most flagship which so give raw video (won against red I guess). Nikon is mostly known or used for photos and it's usually used in performance basketball or sports and wildlife photography. YOU never hear a pro video Grapher using or saying I gotta have my nikon on.this music video lol
@@Shuttterbugg that will change. The Z8 / Z9 tech will be in next Nikon cameras. And just let me tell that Nikon figured how to video. The results from the basic cheapo Z30 are simply great in every aspect if you know how to use it, even if it's only 8bit video. So Nikon have the tech, have the knowledge and when they put the tech in the midrange things will be freaking interesting. A sub 2500usd baby Z9 with APSC sensor and Z9 processor to compete with the XH2S and S5II and a sub 1500usd full frame to compete with the R8, without IBIS, a normal sensor, with shutter mech, but the processing power of Z9
Fortunate to use a z8/z9 for most things, have a z30 as the `toss in backpack all the time` option, enjoyable in many respects and image quality fine for intended use, but the autofocus is maddening in comparison. Found a used (!) x-s20 on b&h, thinking this will make a very good travel camera. Hate to have to duplicate lenses, but truthfully keeping general travel use in mind, probably just one or two beyond the kit should do it.
I've had the X-S20 for two weeks and have used it for some paid work and I am really happy with my choice. I shoot the Canon R5 for most of my work but for some particular situations, where it's more sort of documentary photography, I rather use the X-S20 over the Canon R5. I'm not even considering switching to Fuji at all but this X-S20 is a great addition to my kit. I am pleased agree with Chris in his stills review of the camera.
@@victors6586 I’ve been using the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and it’s a great general purpose lens. Really good quality and very compact. The X-S20 IS works really well with this lens too.

Agreed! Super enjoyable and fun, viewing went quickly. Loved the comment call outs and Jordan mentioning reading them for hours about people wanting the review too, haha
Great review thank you! 😅As many already said, I am really waiting for the comparison of the Fuji X-S20 with Sony a6700 and Canon R7. From this video the IBIS whilst walking didn't seem as good as is in some R7 videos but there we are still waiting for the rumored Sigma and Canon rf-s lenses and it's quite lacking with the codecs too.. Sony AF might be a little better than Fuji but Ibis and interface? Quite a tough competition among these three!!
As a long distance backpacker, this review would have made me seriously consider the X-s20 instead of my X-T4. I feel like my X-T4 is outright overkill for most of my applications. This camera, with the smaller and lighter body, and an amazing hybrid camera, would be an amazing choice. However my X-T4 is the greatest camera I have ever used. Great review! Thanks yall!
Yep love my X-T4, just wished they would pop the new processor in it and call it X-T4 II. I'd love to have an X-S20, just wished they had dual sd card.
@leovanlierop4580 I didn't think about that. That's a great point. However, I still treat my xt4 like it doesn't have whether sealing :/ That's the whole reason I backpack with an umbrella, so I can keep it dry while it's on my shoulder strap and setting it up for good shots.
@@chefegzyle I got thinktank digital holster 10 that I can ware in front of me on the belt of my rugsack. My lens always has a hood on, no need for an umbrella.
@@chefegzyle I do the same. It is WR, I use it with a WR lens, I pretend it doesn't have WR. But if I'm about to nail a shot or want to take a few more at different apertures and it starts to look like it might drizzle, I love that I don't have to instantly pack it away.
I agree that the X-Trans 4 26mp sensor, coupled with the new processor was the right combo for this camera. I actually really wanted this combo for the x-t5.
Me too! I'd like to buy the X-T5 to get the IBIS, but that insanely huge sensor is holding me back. I'm waiting for a X-T5s with the 26mp sensor. Looks like I'll celebrate the 5th anniversary of my X-T3
Coming from a Sony ZV1 I am really having issues with the autofocus... As can be seen on RU-vid "FujiFilm X-S20 Users PLEASE HELP Defective Camera? FW: 1.11" From a distance away it has good focus it seems, but for product focus it has been for me garbage. It looks bad for image focus on your vlog mode test. Also looks bad compared to my older Olympus M1 MKII.
Hi Chris, Hi everyone !! I am the owner of the Canon EOS R10. I wanna make an upgrade in a very near futur. I hesitate between the Canon EOS R7 and the Fujifilm X-S20. Can I have your opinion please
When I handled the XS-10, I found it felt quite plasticky. I guess that's what they need to do to minimize weight. Still, with this glowing review I might want to give the XS-20 a shot. I have never owned a Fuji camera but have always been quite interested in them. Really appreciate the review. (Irregardless?)
I own both and the X-S20 does feel a tiny bit less plasticky, it's a softer material (or could just be the age difference). The buttons are slightly clickier on the X-S20, the half shutter press on the X-S20 feels like the full press on the X-S10 (so much so I keep failing to take a photo not realising I need to press harder!), but there's not much between them to be honest. Cameras like the X-T3 look/feel a bit more special, but I always gravitated to the X-S10 for its compact size and ease of use. With that said, the X-S10 still looks/feels much more premium than the Sony A6xxx series.
I have a used x-t30 and x-t4. I’m very tempted to trade the x-t4 for the x-s20. I know I have 2 card slots (it’s never been an issue having one previously so no big deal) and weather sealing which the x-s20 doesn’t have but I find the x-t4 quite heavy for the size of grip. It’s not the weight as a stand alone but the carry weight with such a small grip can be uncomfortable after a while whereas the x-s20 has a great sized grip. I know image quality will be great but I’m very conflicted as I don’t want to regret it. Unfortunately the camera shop isn’t hiring any atm to get a good feel for it. I would like to do small amounts of video but listening to people talk about video is as understandable for me as a foreign language but I get the idea that it’s good for video 😂 I was also waiting for this review and it didn’t disappoint, thanks.
Check the reviews on B&H, already averaging only 2.5 stars. 12:30, this IBS + DIS look like crap, Sony much better. And what's up with the lens? You need a wider lens for vlogging. A6700 looks better than this camera.
You don't use DIS at that focus distance as the crop only accentuates jitter. Also it's the lightest camera in the price class and the best stabilization feature other than IBIS (more important than OIS) is *weight* - Add a third party grip and use a heavier lens (like Viltrox 13mm F1.4 the GOAT)
I have the X-S20 and I promise you Nostalgic Neg is the best film simulation of them all! I honestly wouldn’t buy a Fuji camera if it didn’t have that one film simulation. Perfectly warm, not overly saturated. It’s a fantastic camera.
Shame Fuji won't give this to us on any older bodies, they keep saying they support their older cameras, but other than fixing what should've worked in the first place, what did we get? - oh yeh, the new XApp which is garbage.
@@DigiDriftZoneit’s not a perfect solution but you can add Nostalgic Negative in post by changing the name of the camera. There should be a few videos showing how to do it.
Hey in your 2 months, has your X-S20 given any heating issues ? Like when browsing through the menus ? I wanna get the X-S20 for the Nostalgic Neg too !
@@bilbo8338 No overheating but I returned it for a refund because of IBIS corner wobbling with wide lenses, poor dynamic range in video, the crop in video and poor video autofocus. It's a great photo camera, but then so is the X-S10 really having the same sensor and only marginally worse autofocus in photos.
Would be nice to mention connectivity, transfer of the photos to your phone. Mostly cameras are lacking in this department. If this continues, the market will just follow phones in a few years
I literally was waiting for this review.. I purchased the X-S20 today. I could not afford the X-H2s and was actually saving for it when this camera came out.. I hope to get enough work with this camera to add the X-h2s as a new A-Roll. I am coming from the Canon M-50 and really considered the R8and R7, But affordable cinema camera and the simulations of Fuji has the look of storytelling I desire to go into.... Sad, I have so many EF lenses now... I also have M lenses I have to get rid of too.
@@cagac Thank you... I do have it in my cart, but I did not know If there was a magnification or not... Does it make the camera (essentially) Full Frame? 0.71
I have to say the "vlog" aspect leaves a lot to be desired. My X-S20 constantly tries to set my shutter speed to 1/24s instead of bumping up the ISO slightly, what the hell Fuji? - Also the stabe, despite the claims of 2 stops higher IBIS than Sony, looks worse than the Sony for any kind of handheld video with motion / walking. Also tap to track in photo only, but not in video? - that sucks :(
Pleased to have so much Petapixel content this week! Also, broken record somewhat, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Panasonic's hybrid competitor - specifically the next m43 camera (G9 II?). I think it could be a huge contender for the XS20 in terms of best balance of hybrid features.
Hey what about the dual gain iso at flog 2 Is it the same as the bigger brother the xh2s where it has two bases like the iso 1200 and 3200 Or is it like the xt4 Flog 640 iso and 2000 iso ?!?
@@lltechview I highly doubt it because they are very good at what they are doing. But check some more stabilization videos if you want to because this one doesn't do it justice.

Great video! :) Been using the XS20 for a few days now and found out there's no audio for footages I shot on 4K60p. Does anyone know how to fix this (if even possible)? Thanks!
I was having overheating problems (I live in Australia) and it was turning off even at 1080 after 25 minutes. I bought the ulanzi camera fan and its great. Much cheaper than the real fan and just clips on. Also it works really well as just a heat sync even when i dont turn it on. Highly recomend.
Sadly most trustworthy camera reviewers live under scorching sun of 19°C 😅 I have a similar problem here in Indonesia, but I have no experience with Ulanzi, might try it out from the store, thanks 😊
I've had my x-s10 for over a year now and it's been great. Glad to see Fuji continuing this line of camera. The x-s20 is tempting as an upgrade for the battery life alone.

In case anyone is wondering about the wobbles from other reviewers a lot of them were using the new 8mm that fuji also sent them to test. I’m guessing the wobbles in other videos were based on the ultra wide lens and not the camera. The 10-24 does the same thing at 10mm, both versions of it. Going to 12-14mm seems to fix this issue. So you should be good with the 10-24 at 12+ or with the 16mm prime (though still a little bit too close to my face for my comfort but some people like it) if they made a 12, 13 or 14mm prime ( a new one) it would be a nice alternative too.
This just in from CINED, Dynamic Range SRN=1 - X-S20 - 12.1 (6.2k) - 12.7 for 4k30 - X-T2 - 12.8 (from 7 years ago) - X-H2 - 13.6 - X-H2S - 13.6 - Panasonics S5 II - 13.7 - Sony A7 SIII - 13.6 - Nikon Z9 - 12.9 Now that's disappointing! - Why is the dynamic range so much worse on the X-S20? - it's even slightly worse than the GH6 micro four thirds!
We've just got the X-S20 and overall it looks and feels great, but we are having issues with what we desire to be the main use of the camera: to use as a webcam (Zoom, Google Meet) and for OBS purposes (for RU-vid videos). Supposedly the camera should be very "plug and play" in terms of setting up the webcam functionality, but we are having issues with that in every place we try to use the "webcam" it just freezes after a few seconds (sometimes a minute or two). I.e., the camera feed on the LCD on the camera itself works just fine, but the camera on Zoom or OBS etc. just freezes after a very short while.
Great review as always. Thanks to pointing issues like touch screen, heating, etc; which is essential in this price point. Hope Canon 4K 60p fine more has a little less crop (maybe 1.18). The real competition (between A6700, Canon R7, and Fuji XS-20) is in the lens where Canon is outdated and slow.
micro four thirds is dead IMO. You give up so much for basically no size or weight difference to APS-C anymore. While APS-C is a huge size improvement over full frame.
AF comparison is the least interesting part. X-T4 and X-S10 were for sure in need of an AF improvement, but the X-T5, X-H2, X-H2S and X-S20 have such good AF now that if it's still not good enough for you, you are a **hopeless** photographer.
@@Vinterloft Where the newer Sonys shine is in video AF. And really shouldn't be compared with Fuji's newest offerings. Also, perhaps if you're taking images of fast-moving subjects you'd also want the Sonys too. But for well-controlled environments. your point is taken.
Excellent video! While the advances over the S10 are evolutionary they are real and worthwhile, even the extra battery capacity alone would be a useful upgrade. This is just a good, solid camera that does everything well enough at a reasonable cost. Fujifilm also offer a great range of lenses. I think the Sony Alpha6700 is ahead on autofocus and also has some great lenses but in most respects (expecially handling) I much prefer the S20. A great enthusiast camera.
@mosaic11 what if you have neither. I'm a Canon M50 user, to be honest I am actually quite happy but I am looking at something better for sports. Was keen on an R10 or R7 but there's been quite a few AF issues coming up so now I'm back looking at new cameras and this X-S20 was something I never previously considered. I just hate how manufacturers don't make all their cameras weather resistant
@@thetoyota86perspective54 I don't think it's that important to emphasize the water resistance of the body. In most cases, you won't be shooting in harsh weather conditions. And even if you do have to shoot in that environment, a plastic bag can usually solve the problem. If you're on a budget, the X-S20 is a good option. I personally bought the X-H2S because it can shoot 4K60p without cropping! This is important because it means I can always prioritize 60p shooting, and I can have more freedom to choose which parts to slow down in post-production.
I'm always amused when Sony is dinged for "sexiness;" I like the modern sleekness of the A6X00 lineup, as I'm not a film refugee. I owned a Fuji for a while and did not feel sexier when I used it.
I hope the next XS30 gets rid of the "filter" on the PSAM dial and adds more Custom options, or you can make dial like sony a6700 and make a separate custom dial or entire PSAM dial in video or still
