Back in the day when semis were played on Saturday afternoons at 3pm like all the other games, and on a neutral ground other than Wembley, making the atmosphere so much greater with the dream of Wembley (the Holy Grail) awaiting the winners. Back when the FA Cup mattered and players were players not celebrities.
When players were men (smoke, drink and still skillful). The pitches were muddy and if your kit was clean after 90 minutes you hadn't put any effort in.
I was there ... an 11-year-old in the Birmingham end. Whenever Trevor Francis got the ball you knew something special could happen. And it was always an honour to watch Bobby Moore.
Wonderful to see this after all these years. I was there as a football mad 11 year old with my Dad supporting my beloved Blues. Seeing Big Joe Gallagher score his goal still makes it one of the greatest moments. Also have to add seeing the great Bobby Moore in action was / is a pleasure. The replay we also went to, but I try to forget that night. Thankyou for uploading.
I was there as a 16 year old behind the blues goal, was absolutely packed, many false tickets they were easy in those days. Could easy be 40,000 blues fans sick as parrots after that and Maine road loss. Never forget it all my life.
went to this game as a 12 yr old blues fan with my dad bless him and brother watching it still remember that atmoshere to this day not the best of days and the replay was worse went there aswell walked out in tears oh well thats football lol
Same as we had most fans from one club back in 1991 for leyland daf till spurs had home games there.we should be one of the giants of English football but we have the worst luck imaginable
Blue nose that was at this game aged 14! Was even at the Leeds one, years earlier that Francis called the best club side he had ever played against! In the Fulham one my dad always asked why we played the 'old timers' ! Also went to the replay at maine road and not a word was spoken all the way home , was gutted and heart broken, and as they say somethings never change , just look at the disaster this season. ! The gypsies curse, eh!
Brum should achieve much more than they do, massive support. They have to get in the PL big clubs like Brum are needed not dross like Palace. There must have been 45,000 Brummies at this game. I’m Chelsea had some lively days up at Birmingham. Good crew. Love this Birmingham kit. Some great players. Bob Hatton, Trevor Francis, Hit Man Howie Kendall. For those of you who may not realise, the Taylor playing for Birmingham is the guy who is now that PFA shithouse, Gordon Taylor.
The replay at Maine Road was my first ever away game, aged 7. Just remember crying all the way back to Birmingham. Don't suppose anyone has the highlights for the replay anywhere?
Fulham had a good first half at Wembley. Cutbush and Mellor gave the game away in the second half. Mitro was in the right place at the right time last Saturday :-)
A memorable day . The last train back from Sheffield got diverted at Derby to go via Leicester. Left Sheffield at about 11.20 and was absolutely packed by drunken Blues fans. Arrived in Birmingham about 90 minutes late. One lad needed the toilet - couldn't get into it so got off the train to use the toilet on Derby station. The train left before he got back on 😂.
4:16 the leppings lane end just falls forward. Thank god they didn’t have fencing up back then. I’ve read somewhere that this game was an early warning regarding safety at Hillsborough.
Was right behind the goal, where Fulham scored, absolute mayhem and excitement but scary to think what was to happen there years later. R I P the 97. Dave Harvey
I was there age 10, expecting to see Blues coast to a win, remember only Joe Gallagher turned up - DONT think you missed much! The replay was even worse, we were great, but couldnt put the ball in the net and the ultimate deflected winner in the last seconds.
I was right behind that screamer from mitchell never forget it and the replay standing on the tables in the motorway service station went in ford corsair why dont the players role around like they do now days it was a harder game all round
The sad thing is that the sure your refer to is at the Leppings Lane End at Hillsborough where the 96 Liverpool fans died in 1989. So, so sad. The warning signs were there for years but we never saw it. Crowd surges were just seen as a normal part of the game
It was the fences there that killed them not the actual crowding aspect. NO fences on this game. You see I was in that same place the following year supporting Man Utd in another semi-final and we had the crowd but no threat to life due to no fencing in front of us.
@@thomasoflaherty3520 I’ve been saying that ever since 1989, if there had not been fencing 96 people would not have been killed. The warning signs were there for years, 1975,1976,1981,1987,1988...
We were all just treated as animals in those days. The police and authorities hated us. Just how it was. The quarter final saw blues with 52000 at St Andrews plus false tickets and those who jumped the turnstile.
Sung to the tune of the laughing policeman: " there was a certain team by the name of Birmingham/ they got knocked out the F.A. Cup by Alex Stocks Fulham/ it was in the final minute the referee blew up and now those blue and white bastards are out the F.A. Cup/ ha, ha,, ha,......
@@slurmsmckenzie4852 Did you just post that comment with a complete lack of irony? Of course you did, you're a Small Heath Harriers supporter. Go and give that sub- normal head of yours a good fucking wobble .
