Palette of the Soul Guatemala Part 1 The Legend of Blue Atitlan In Guatemala, where most of the land is covered with mountains and trees, there is a lake that is considered sacred. It is 'Atitlan' located deep in the mountains. This lake, which has been called a resting place for the soul by the natives since ancient times, is deep and wide, and just looking at it makes your heart feel full. Among the 12 villages around this lake, we visit 'Santiago Atitlan', the largest. We meet women washing away the hardships of life with their clothes at the communal laundry on the lakeside, and we are captivated by the beauty of the traditional Mayan clothes and embroidery at the house of 'Concepcion', whose face is on the Guatemalan coin. Next, we visit 'San Antonio Palopo', where we watch the process of making 'Huipil' and 'Charlina', clothes that symbolize the blue color of the lake, and then go freshwater fishing with fisherman 'Juan' in a small boat at 'San Juan La Laguna'. After selling the fish we caught at the market, we go to his house to share a warm meal and experience their simple daily lives. #WorldThemeTravel #SoulPalette #Guatemala #LakeAtitlan #IndigenousVillage #SantiagoAtitlan #LaundryPlace #MaximonCathedral #PanajachelDock #SanAntiagoVillage SoulPalette Guatemala Part 2 Adventurer's Paradise Guatemala's nature holds many jewels. In particular, the valley 'Semuc Champei' located in the jungle is a place with a magnificent view of the huge terraced terrain. Here, you can enjoy the playground created by nature by diving on a tube. Also, you can have a very unique experience because it is a terrain created by the accumulation of limestone. Caving through the dark 'Canba Cave' with only a candle provides a thrill that you cannot experience anywhere else. In search of a place where you can have a bigger adventure, we decide to climb the 'Acatenango Volcano', and when you climb this volcano, you can see the 'Fuego Volcano' spewing lava up close. Even though we are accompanied by experienced mountaineer, Mr. Jaime, it is not easy to reach the summit... At night, we light a bonfire and camp out, but because of the deepening cold, we warm up for a while in a shelter built for emergencies and continue walking. And finally, we reach the summit! I feel overwhelmed by the magnificent and amazing scenery. #SemucChampey #AcatenangoVolcano #CacaoFarm Palette of the Soul Guatemala Part 3 Old Heritage Chichicastenango Chichicastenango, which boasts a deep history, is a trading city located on a plateau at an altitude of 1,965m. This usually peaceful place becomes crowded on Thursdays and Sundays because the largest traditional market in Guatemala is held there. Among them, the most noticeable one is the Mayan religious ceremony. Whenever the market is open, there are people who pray in a way that combines Catholicism and Mayan rituals. Especially when you meet two people about to get married and perform a ceremony together at a Mayan altar, you can see that religion and faith are deeply embedded in the daily lives of the people here. In the colorfully decorated cemetery, you can get a glimpse of their unique view of the afterlife, and at the market you stop by to see their lives up close, you can meet 'Miguel' who makes traditional dance costumes in the region. You can make masks with him and try a sauna that is said to contain the spirit of the Mayans, and spend time thinking about what kind of life they have pursued. #Chichicastenango #Traditional market #Cathedral #Maya wedding ceremony #Pascual Abáz cemetery The Palette of the Soul Guatemala Part 4 Antigua Guatemala, the Land of Festivals Guatemala's capital, 'Guatemala City', is a city with a unique atmosphere where traces of the colonial era and neoclassical style are in harmony. You can watch street performances here and experience unique cultures such as the Mayan pedal that generates electricity and the Mayan custom of 'worry dolls'. And finally, we head to the traveler's paradise, 'Antigua Guatemala'. Built by Spain in the mid-16th century and prospering as the capital for about 200 years, Antigua Guatemala is a city that retains its unique old-fashioned charm. After stopping by the Hill of Crosses, which overlooks the whole place, we listen to the percussion instrument marimba and enjoy the festival scene where the city itself becomes a stage. We conclude our schedule feeling like everything around us is a gift. #GuatemalaCity #Antigua #StreetPerformance #SantoDomingoCathedral #MayaPedal #WorryDoll
