reminder, there are G lenses that seem to out-perform GMSTR lenses out there. Obviously some of the newer G lenses seem to be better than older GMSTR lenses. Disclaimer : if you always use lenses the "same way" like you tend to go straight to wide open and that is how you are comparing lenses, you might not be operating in the GMSTR lens' optimal setting and that might be why you are not getting the super sharp image you are hoping for. Makes me wonder if they started to eliminate wider apertures just so you never get to see the less perfect image but if you are in the dark, and you want to sacrifice focus for exposure, maybe thats a good thing. but with drive-bye camera review pages on social media, they may have to limit the aperture in order to prevent the less "crisp" photos from getting into one of these chopping blocks

Some bird facts: - The first two woodpeckers were not the same. The first is a Downy Woodpecker. The second is a Hairy Woodpecker. The Hairy is larger and has a much sturdier beak. The two species diverged from a common ancestor about 2 million years ago. - The woodpecker you videoed in Dundas is a juvenile Red-bellied Woodpecker. The adult has a red cap on the back of the head (female) or all the way up to the beak (male). They're very common here in New York but rare in Ontario, according to the Sibley guide. - The brown Black-crowned Night Heron is an immature bird from this year's brood. The gray one is an adult. Males and females have the same coloration. I'm writing as I'm still watching the video. "Chipmunk" is actually an American Red Squirrel.

Or just go anywhere between. Im using normally full frame - and so all of my lenses are full frame, but i have also a faster and much better for wildlife suited APS-C, the EOS R7. Tried the R6 and though about the R5, but in the end, i just want a small camera as well, good thing the EOS RP does the job of a small, light universal camera very good and as said - while the R7 is superior performing for any other needs like wildlife, 120 fps video and astrophotography.

I find this channel to be the most comprehensive and constructive content on the Tube. There is not a day in which I have not been enlightened by your wisdom and perseverance! Your never- ending quest for the "perfect camera" is a micro-cosmism of the photographer's daily struggles. I appreciate it and learn from it. Thank You! The voice over work was wonderful, but sometimes I like to see the person narrating. Thanks again! I been using Micro 4/3rd and APS-C cameras. The full frame has always been out of my reach and if I did have a full frame, my other cameras would be useless. So, I stick with the less, so I don't have to be disappointed with the better!
@harrison00xXx
@harrison00xXx 2 года назад
Funny how we always search for the perfect camera, but any photographer/videographer knows... the perfect camera doesnt exist! "I been using Micro 4/3rd and APS-C cameras. The full frame has always been out of my reach and if I did have a full frame, my other cameras would be useless" Dont be so sure about that! I entered full frame (had only full frame EF glass despite APS-C DSLRs!) after 10 years photography with the EOS RP for 999€. I really like the camera, ofc its entry level and basically a 2017 6D Mk2 sensor, but its awesome especially with "proper" glass! As i got into wildlife, the fun i had with the RP turned ofcourse fast into a "nightmare", the RP just sucks for wildlife and video. I got a few nice shots but damn, 1 out of 2000 shots is annoying especially because the camera is too slow (in many different ways) I got now the R7, APS-C and even slighly more expensive than the RP, which is A LOT BETTER (for wildlife/video!) I still struggle if i should keep the RP or just enjoy a nice spare/secondary body. Just astrophotography rocks already (I do with RP and prime lens milky way on a basic tripod while R7 is automated via notebook as imaging camera on the telescope) If you are still into video a lot, ofc full frame is too expensive, but with M4/3 and APS-C i guess video is already the best performance you can get for "little" money. I mean "little" is nowadays like 1000$ for a single piece so already a lot. But from a photographers perspective, a EOS RP or 2nd hand A7R II (or even III) is already pretty affordable and nice. All the cameras i had survived me, even found an old Sony Cybershot DSC-P100 (about 15 years+ old) and its still working. So considering you can use the camera until it gets useless... Full frame can be good too! Just think about wide angle.... a 16-35mm 2.8 gets on APS-C or hell, even harder on M4/3 pretty useless as wide angle.
@harrison00xXx
@harrison00xXx 2 года назад
But i dont have much clue about M4/3 or APS-C systems, i used APS-C cameras for 10 years but only bought higher quality full frame (EF) glass. So upgrade to full frame was anyways planned since about 2010 already but just not affordable yet. Heck, i didnt even used the 18-55mm APS-C kit lens for a long time and sold it early.

@@NN-lo5fy It really depends on where you looking for. If the best anti dust, one of the best weathersealing, the best image stabilisation, very wide range of quality lenses isn't enough for you. For me it is. The lens offerings in M43 are very good suit better my needs than those of Fujifilm. For noise reduction I use DXO DeepPrime which upgrades it beyond many 35mm sensors. And other brands are not taking APS-C too seriously anymore. I don't know any professional APS-c offerings currently besides Fujifilm XS2H. I prefer full frame lenses (EF 70-200, RF 800, RF35mm 1.8, ...) on full frame body or with 1,6x crop on R7 for more reach, video and proper wildlife capabilities at all (instead of teleconverters) Since i was going to full frame with the EOS RP (for stills only), i am really stuck into, especially since i just can make use of all the higher quality EF lenses i got over the past years 2nd hand. Tried the R6 as well and i still have it, but RP+R7 is an absolutely perfect combination for me - RP does everything (included milky way astrophotography with regular lenses), R7 for wildlife, video and astrophotography on a telescope. I can easily go on the R7 at a high ISO as with the RP, if it gets just too noisy (which it gets often, noise reduction completely disabled) Topaz DenoiseAI does a good job.

I saw nothing wrong with the Olympus videos. Sony images may be technically better but after RU-vid compression I don’t think you’re gaining anything. If you’re shooting professionally, and you have excellent screens to view the recordings on, then FF helps but otherwise the micro 4/3 would be perfectly fine.

(good video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yvnJjEOobXc.html) Maybe bokeh and some very pixel-peeping grain but those don't really matter in video (especially 1080p). @@QuizWave594 In good light there's not much difference. After ISO 3200 you'll start to notice m43 does a bit worse than APS-C. Good APS-C sensors like ones used by Fuji are usable up till 6400. If you're going APSC, just get Fuji. Or wait for a new Sony model. For M43 a used Gh5m2 could be good. Also, even if your laptop can't edit 4k, just work with proxies. Shoot in 4k, export in 1080p for better sharpness and less noise. There's no point shooting 1080p on most sensors because the cameras aren't even giving you good quality. Fuji and Sony APSC line skips in 1080p so everything is blurry af. Not sure about m43 sensors, but I think it's fairly similar.

My RF 800 F11 and RP (or R7, 1280mm) is laughing. But yeah, its in shooting position also a little bit on the big side, but the RF 600 F11 is super small (and much reach on APS-C) I use a super comact entry level full frame, the RP for most of my things and go for APS-C/R7 on same mount (with full frame lenses) for more reach/wildlife. Still very lightweight, but the RF 800 is not really compact, just in storage/travel position. So fullframe and small can work. Just think about the good old EF 400mm F4 DO lens! I love your channel. You have a great sense of humour, and a knack for expressing the frustrations and yearnings of every camera-user in an approachable manner. But... sometimes I wonder if you're "doing it wrong" on purpose. First, by filming things awkardly for the "absurd" effect, like that bird at 15:26 whose head is behind a tree. You could probably take two steps to the side for a clear line of sight. Second, by pushing your gear to its limits unnecessarily. For example, filming a turtle at 120p. As far as I know, turtles have no wings to flutter, and there's little risk of them flying out of the frame. In those instances, it seems like you're using 120p or 240p just to complain about the loss of image quality. Similarly, in your "vlog" style videos you often march down the street with no discernible purpose other than to compain about focus tracking and image stabilisation. I know it's part of your "thing", but sometimes I feel like shouting at the screen: Dude, just use the camera as intended and you'll have much less to compain about! Just had to say it. Keep making awesome content. :)

The advantage with Micro four thirds is that because of the sensor size they can pack it full of features for less money. If you do the same with a full frame sensor, it'll be more expensive. This is what infuriates me that Panasonic is still sticking with contrast detect. If they had reliable autofocus, I know plenty of people that wouldn't have switched. Now they lost the market. My G9 is perfect for everything except when I have to track something. They could've been the go to wildlife camera. It still is good and it is amazing how you can get so much reach in such a small package (lens + camera). BUT GET THE BLOODY AUTOFOCUS RIGHT. I know. Manual focus exist but when you are tracking a bird, I'm not good enough to keep up.

I've watched like 5 videos on this subject and still understand little. From what I can tell, it seems APS-C is supposed to give you better low-light while maintaining DOF, while also not losing what MFT has in terms of advantages. Basically, it lets you breach into the professional realm more completely, but again... Information seems to be conflicting. Either way, I think it's between APS-C and MFT for me. Full frame is just too large, heavy, and expensive and I personally wouldn't need that level of quality, either. The next most important question would be who has the best codecs that make 24p and 25p look smooth as opposed to the jerky crap I usually see? I know RED can pull it off, but if I'm spending all this money on a proper camera, I want it to be a hybrid video/photography camera.

I have owed a lot of cameras as below and have used all of them for wildlife photography and sometimes wildlife videography (2010 onwards): 1997-03 Nikon FM2 2007-2008 Nikon D40 2008 Canon 40D 2008-10 Nikon D300 2009-10 Nikon D700 2008 Olympus Tough 6000 2010-13 Olympus E-PL1 2011-12 Olympus E-PL3 2011-12 Olympus E-5 2011-14 2X GoPro Hero 2 2012-14 2X Canon XA-10s 2012 Olympus EM-5 OM-D 2012 2X Canon 650Ds 2013 4X Canon 600Ds 2013 1X Canon 5D Mk3 2013-15 1X Nikon AW1 2013-14 3X GoPro Hero 3+ 2014 1X Canon 600D 2013-14 1X DJI Phantom Vision 2014-2015 3X Olympus E-M10 2015-2016 2X Panasonic GH4 2015-2016 1X Panasonic LX100 2016-2017 Panasonic FZ300 2016-2022 2X Canon 80D 2016-2022 1X GoPro Hero 5 2017-2021 DJI Mavic Pro 2017-2018 Sony RX10 IV 2017-2018 Panasonic FZ2500 2018-2022 Canon G1X MkIII 2019-2022 Canon SX740 HS 2020-2022 iPhone 11 Pro 2020-2022 Nikon P950 2021-2022 Olympus TG-6 Favorites: The EPL-1 was great fun for underwater wildlife photography. Actually all the Olympus cameras were fun (very important) to use for wildlife photography. I loved the Canon 5D MkIII the most for video but it is SO heavy to take on bush walks/hikes. The Nikon D300 was simply one of the best cameras ever made! The Panasonic FZ300 was a ton of fun but you have to stick to ISO 100. My current favorites (end of 2022) are: 1. The iPhone 11 Pro for macro wildlife videography. 2. The Nikon P950 (at 100 ISO only) for wildlife photography. 3. The Olympus TG-6 for macro wildlife photography. It would be AWESOME to see you test the tiny sensor cameras like the Sony RX10 IV and Nikon P1000 plus my current favorite cameras too as they might surprise you! Stick to 100 ISO though! They are “toys” compared to the cameras in this episode but they are SO freeing and fun to use! Thank you for all your efforts in putting this together.

I moved from a GH5 (4 years) to an A1 (one year now). I know, not really comparable, and for those four years I loved my GH5. That said, do I like my A1 3.25 x more than the GH5? Absolutely! When I need it, the auto focus is next level. The clean ISO at 4000 is amazing. The 4K 120p. Brilliant. The auto white balance out of the camera is also far more accurate. The 50 mp photos… you can crop for days! And I don’t even shoot sports where the 30 fps would be amazing. My point? You can buy happiness, at least in the world of cameras.

Auto WB? Just set it to overcast, sunny or indoor fluorescent, auto WB needs to perish its bad and should never been made in the first place. And its no excuse to use it, its not like we live on a planet were light colour outside changes rapidly in 10 minutes.

For me, it's simple. I use m43 for everything. I limit FF to wide to short telephoto. I can't deal with super bulky lenses. APSC is a joke. Aside from Fuji, APSC is severely under supported by other manufacturers. They just view it as a stopgap to FF and somehow expect us to use FF lenses on APSC bodies.

Nice going on the Fuji focus peaking. I have this theory, depending on the subject, that the contrast focus peaking is looking for may actually be occurring just above the surface of the object. A kind of micro glare that focus peaking sees and not the actual surface. My simple Japanese iron teapot with it's miriad facets pattern is a case in point. You'd say, well stop down, or hey, it's only happening a tiny fraction of a distance on top of the surface, it should still be in focus... But.... BTW, I had a Canon 600mm with a version II two times extender and forget the name of my jazzy tripod. You really needed to pack it in it's case. Which meant car. And really meant you needed a folding table to set up on. Mine never left the flat. I did have a view of the east bay to play with...but of course those heat waves. And they're still around at night shooting the moon. Sensor Canon 5D Mark II. Never liked it's video resolution. Grass fields looked just bad.

I like this video because it puts it in perspective. the lowest spec interchangeable lens camera compared to one of the highest spec video cameras on the market and the footage looks comparable. I mean if you had lied and labeled both either OM1 or both A7s3, people would believe the lie and might consider any difference to be due to exposure settings or hand-holding skill.

Everyone always says the bigger the sensor the better. I agree in most circumstances like low light and depth of field and prefer not doing any math and having my lenses multiplied for crop etc. That said I do love 4/3 for video the stabilization is usually better and aoc is like in the middle obviously with better lowlight than 4/3 , and up to par video (most the time. So what I’m really saying is there really is a purpose FOR ALL in every field period. There isn’t one camera to rule then alll, there have been close like Panasonic gh6, but still not one camera is perfect it’s all subjective and what ur willing to go with or without
@te0pol159
@te0pol159 2 года назад
I have to disagree with the depth-of-field one. The problem is, you need to use your camera differently with MFT. You can't just create bokeh anywhere like with FF. Bokeh is very much possible with MFT, but you need to go look for it and understand the physics behind it. And after all: A) Search for famous photographs on the web, how many of them have bokeh? None. B) In video, you don't even really want bokeh. Honestly, it's pretty disturbing.
@TechnoBabble
@TechnoBabble Год назад
@@te0pol159 maybe you should look up said famous photos for yourself, plenty of them have clearly visible focus falloff.
@te0pol159
@te0pol159 Год назад
@@TechnoBabble There is of course some bokeh, but very little of it and all of the photographs are possible to recreate with MFT. And the famous photographs that do have bokeh, are usually portraits.

It would be cool to compare in the same environment the Sony A7S III footage to Canon R5. Also, could you talk about Sony A7 IV and A7R IVA for video? I understand you might not have them handy, but with your experience you might have an opinion on them.

From the FROs last video we found out fujifilm takes everyone off the preview demo list if you ever mention anything negative about Fuji. Why you never see him mention it because a previous video he mentioned the lens was slow to focus. Perhaps the Fuji reviews are more moderated then we know.

The reason i love my fujifilm Xt-4 more than my sony A7III is not because it is better, because it isn’t in my opinion, but inlove the film simulations and the lenses are extremely “affordable” for the same sharpness i get with a 1400 dollar sony lens and it smaller. Xt-4 and before that the XT-3 always went with me on vacations
