“Puukko” is Finnish for “knife.” It is deeply rooted in Scandinavian countries where the knife is both tool and art form. In fact, the puukko plays an important part in Nordic culture. Puukko blade grinds differ and handle design & composition differ. Enough with “clone” naysayers!!! I began knife collecting with Ganzo knives before I learned what knives had inspired what versions of Ganzo knives. Ganzo makes good quality, inexpensive knives. This Ganzo looks like an excellent knife and this review video was well done, Jake. I may be inspired to buy one of these Ganzo G806 knives even though I have 2 Mora knives.
Yes, I get that, and then over time puukkoo also came to be considered a certain style of knife in the knife community. Just in this comment section there is someone who says they have bought a budget clone which then convinced them to buy the original version - serveral times. That means that these copy knives are actually driving some customers to the originals and that makes them a good thing for the big brand names (at least in part). I agree, Ganzo makes good quality knives for less money than just about anyone else. Their cost to quality ratio beats almost anything else out there - I don't know of any brand that beats them actually. I used to say Sanremu beat them but then they started their SRM lineup and the prices went UP too much to keep that title.
It really bugs me when people call them Gonzo - they are actually making some very decent knives for some super low prices. Gas station knife prices but the quality is far beyond that.
Hi Jake, thanks for this review, really appreciate the measuments you done on test (as usual). For me a Mora is better and with a better price in Europe. 👋👍
In Europe it is even cheapter and eaiser to get a Mora than it is here and here they are fairly cheap and easy to get. My biggest wish for Mora is that they would switch to 14C28N instead of sticking with 12C27 or at least make runs of BOTH steels. I know 12C27 is easier to sharpen out in the woods, but 14C28N is quite a bit better in every other way. I even like 8Cr13/14 more than 12C27.
The ambidextrous sheath is a huge selling point. Something on which Mora and Marttiini failed badly. I think I already decided to buy one, but I'm now looking for reviews to discourage me. This wasn't it. 🤪
I think this model is a very pretty basic. I was in doubt between buying the G806 or S708 and because of the steel I ended up purchasing the S708, but next year I will buy the G806. Any comments about both models that you noticed after recording their videos?
A lot of people feel the same way. Ganzo knives could be argued to help increase sales for brand name knives as I have heard the same thing from an increasing number of people.
Yeah, I do whatever I want, but being totally honest, I didn't recognize it as a copy of a Benchmade when I put it in my cart, I only realized it when it arrived at the house, but I wasn't surprized because Ganzo has been making copies since they started up - it's a VERY Chinese business model. The Benchmade is indeed a type of puukko, which is why Benchmade called it "200 Puukko"
Jake if you are interested in selling this Ganzo or any other here in Canada ( I know you do from time to time I can message you but think I mixed up your email lol cheers 🍻
I don't sell any my knives on an ad-hoc basis (I used to do so but not for over a year now). ALL knife sales go through my standard knife sale process where my financial supporters get the first chance to buy them and then after that I open it up to all my other viewers, so if want to join that group of 50ish folks who support my channel for as little as $2USD / $3CAD per month on Patreon you can get early access (this knife will not be on the knife sale this week though) - www.Patreon.com/CCE
I doubt it, I haven't found one. I used to think Sanrenmu was a better deal but then they started their SRM branding and their prices started going up without their quality following suit.
10Cr15CoMoV would be great but I would definitely pefer 9Cr18MoV over 8Cr14MoV too. 8Cr13 or14 are pretty much on the bottom of my acceptable list, but they are acceptable for a low enough price.
Puukko's are indeed traditionally made with a scandi grind but the Benchmade 200 Puukko has the very same sabre grind that this knife does. Unfortunately for you, companies don't always follow traditional convention when naming their products.
The tang length is impressive! I bought a Mora Garberg just to get that. And a leather sheath and 14C28. And a Scandi grind. But still, this isn't bad. I do like my Sebenza clone!
Hello friend, what do you think of Lansky Responder knives? There's 3.5 inch and 4 inch ones, 9Cr and 12C Edit: ah nevermind I found your old video, you are very helpful friend ☺ Then what do you think of Kershaw Adamant? 8cr, it looks very cool to me but am hesitant, price is good aswell, am asking you because I have failed to find any review videos of Kershaw Adamant
I reviewed one of the Responder knives way back in 2016 (back before I was good at this reviewer thing) Here is the link in case someone else is wondering - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XmMKOvCLl-w.html I am not a fan of Kershaw budget knives, not at all. The several that I had were all so subpar that I would consider them a waste of money so I stopped reviewing Kershaw knives because I don't intentionally choose to do negative reviews - I just do them when I end up with a bad knife by surprize.
58.2HRC - yes, that makes sense, for what I "felt" when I sharpened mine. I wonder why they claim 56HRC on their website when they constantly harden it a bit more than that.
Is that a good copy? Probably not. I won’t spend the money to find out. However, is it a good knife for 20 bucks? Absolutely! I have the version with orange on it and love it. Watching your video was like being introduced to an old friend -getting to know them better. As always, thank you for the review! AND, I loved your comment about mature people, not needing everyone to agree with their opinion. Some of the best conversations I have are with people who disagree with me. I find myself thinking about what they say more than talking with people that have the same beliefs that I do. Thanks Jake!
It is not trying to be a copy in terms of matching quality for quality - it is just trying to be a copy in terms of design while making it at decent quality and I agree, for under $20 they did a smash up job. THANKS for that great compliment Dave.
Yah, it could be PVC, but I don't think so, I think it is probably just standard Polypropylene, but I wasn't 100% certain. I did cut on part of it a bit to see if it has fiber reinforcement but I was inconclusive so I didn't include that in the video.
