As a diy'er really enjoying these informative videos. I may not be a builder buts its all helping me think about the steps in my build so greatly appreciated. All the internet haters can hate, they will never get their soft skinned office hands dirty anyways.
Growing to love your videos, thanks so much! I’m putting my epdm roof on next weekend and this is the best video I can find on RU-vid for installation 👍
Just started watching your channel & it’s very good! 1. You are not shouting 2. You are not fat, you are a normal build for a bloke 3. It’s nice to see someone who knows exactly what he’s doing! A lot of people don’t realise that proper tradesmen work at quite a rate!!! Good work
Hi Liam just did my rubber roof on gym for my daughter , watched your videos me joiner also but have picked up few good ideas from yourself 👍 one thing might help with 2 nd part gutter trim is to cut bit approx 12 long and use it to push up rubber first the capping piece is much easier to chap on once the return rubber is up under trim cheers shug
Couldn’t have timed this better mate, put my facias on tonight and Epdm going on tomorrow. It’s only a big shed and not a garden room but pretty much built the same method and spec less the insulation and plasterboard. Thanks for another brilliant tutorial
@@AH-yg4qp it went very well, its a really easy system. the two things to watch out for are to ensure the joints of your roof boards are perfectly sealed, sanded and flush. I have one joint that wasnt T&G and you can tell as it has a very slight ripple along it. the other thing is make sure you dont cut the overhang too short as it needs more than you think to wrap up under the gutter trim. Mine was about 5mm too short in several places and the rubber kept popping out. If that happens I recommend cutting some small sections off the trim to use as shims. worked a treat for me. Good luck! 😎👍
This is a great one Liam-such professionalism and clear instructions. Thanks mate, really appreciate your detail In the vids and really helpful. At every stage of my build I'm clicking onto your tutorials👍🏼💪
The reason for contact adhesive round the edge is because that's the most stressful area of the roof and even thought trim nails it in place you still end up with bubbles around the edges after 12 month or so.. seen it plenty of times
I work in management for a big builders merchants beginning with T and I've gotta say I would happily have this quality of work in my own home. I understand editing can make anyone look great but, this guy uses the best gear and has clearly used it for years. I love the pre drill pre hammer method
Great work - I learnt a lot! Brilliant to see a young girl getting stuck in to the manual work too - hope she finds more sensible things than tattoos to spend her earnings on. Youth!
Another great Video for us DIYers! I am just about to build my wife a posh shed and will use EPDM so this is very useful to see the upvc details. In fact I used a Butly Rubber pond liner on a shed I built 15 years ago and it is still going strong, Didn't even glue that one down! I have worked out the main difference between William and myself. He spends 5% of the time thinking and 95% working - I am the opposite ! lol
Hi, I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the gutter edge. Even the manufacturer video doesn’t explain like you. Thanks. I feel confident now.
Evening William....love watching these vids...the best bits are when you get well into it and miss words and letters out 🤣🤣😁 only messing....keep up the good work 👌👌👌
Evening Mr. Griffin. Another quality job and quality video. Following you on Instagram now too! All being well, my garden room will be about 7m by 4m. Only French doors though! Bi-folds very nice indeed but very expensive. Gonna start on it soon. Can’t wait.
You’ll regret not using bifolds, honestly, if you can, stretch your budget somehow, there not much more than f/doors, thanks for your support mate, always good to hear from you

Great Video William , You make it look so easy Thank You.
I love everything about your work ethic and attitude when working. It's easy to see you're a good worker. Only thing i want to add is the contract adhesive is highly recommended by the EPDM companies and there must be good reason for it. As someone else said it's likely to reduce stress and lifting. Otherwise brill job. Would be great to have an update video on this roof to see how it held up. That would shut myself and the neysayers up quick
😂there’s 40k people on my face book group, I’m estimating that at least 3k have followed my build packs and not used contact adhesive. Never an issue, fair enough if you’ve got upstands or adjoining a house wall. But it’s a flat roof with mechanical fixings to all edges, never had a problem 👌
Great video, very informative. Can I ask, in your builds, is there a reason you use aluminium bifold doors over UPVC, is it for expansion purposes with it being timber frame?
Wow! thanks for the guide. Really helpful and interesting. A question for you now, Using this method will this be enough to use will a sedum roof or is more required?
Love it mate, can see your passionate about providing a quality job and having a good name. 2 Q’s do the sides not need guttering and also do yo7 U not create the pitch with furrings? Thanks mate
My build is pretty much the same size as this so it’s co-incidentally perfect, very informative and detailed, really appreciate this! How much overhang from the edge of the roof fascia to the outer face of the cladding do you generally leave please?
Hi, would the trims and edging etc be suitable for flat roof extensions on the back of a house, covering a kitchen and bathroom or does it need a different system?
Other than that I observe that you’ve carried out a good meaningful job. Well done fellas nice to see some care and pride in a trades work. Unfortunately it’s very very rare during these times
Good timing. My roof is due to be delivered next week. I always understood the contact adhesive to be more about taking the pull when the epdm shrinks rather than holding it down.
Suppose that theory would be ok if temp at time off fitting was consistent, but it’s designed to be fit all year , and if the middle shrinks how would that effect the outside100mm , who knows, but never had a problem after using for years, I’ll go on the course one day 💪
william griffin yeah it wasn’t a criticism or anything. It’s probably my misunderstanding of it. In fact I spoke to a manufacturer today who has distributors in leeds, I was passed his details by a roof slate company we do some work for, and he said to do it like you did in this video.
Danny Whittingham don’t take me wrong mate, wasn’t being funny or anything, just after doing them we’ve decided this works, besides, try using the contact adhesive on a windy day 🤣🤣
Excellent video! Really informative and clear. Quick question. I’m creating a balcony area and wanted ask if Epdm rubber would’ve a good idea as we will be walking on it? I also may wanted add decking to it obviously not nailing into the roof but a floating timber frame sitting on top with deck boards on that? What would you say?
Just finished my first epdm roof for my son's dormer today. 30 degrees and the rubber burnt your knees. Ive been in the game close to 40 years but I watched the suppliers installation video which had us folding the rubber back! if only i had seen your video first and rolled it, life would have been easier! I'm not happy with my self for not working that out but great video thanks.
I get a piece of insulation to kneel on, some one on the group, posted, they watched a wasp land on it and die as it touched it, hard to believe, but I think, we both know it could be true
@@thegardenroomguru I was using an old bit of velvet curtain. I thought the journey up was bad enough... metal ladder and concrete roof tiles! I would believe your other poster! How the rubber does not turn to a liquid is what is hard to believe!
Hey. I’m busy doing a 3x5 flat roof studio. I was planning on adding 55mm furring strips to create a fall for water. Doesn’t this mess with with the corner strips? How do you go about it. I noticed you’re roof is flat. Really need some help on this. Cheers, great channel!
Hi, great videos. Do you use that stronger glue on the perimeter, or just that water based adhesive over the whole thing? As someone who has done loads, is it worth the extra cost/ bother? Cheers
Is it better to use the tongue and grooved steerling boards rather than using the bigger 8 by 4 foot boards that wont be tongue and grooved but less joints snd faster to put down?
I've left no air ventilation. What do you think i should do? I'm thinking of drilling some holes in the trim and put some ventilation covers on. Any ideas.?
If you don't have biceps like William or hands like mallets you might struggle with the two part gutter trim - I did. I got it in by pushing up from below and using a rubber mallet. Thanks William, great vid as usual.
I want to do a conservatory roof with edpm,8x2 joist with 4x2 noggins and standard roof insulation, would that be good way to go?,need airflow stop condensation
Thanks for this mate, can anyone help me, the problem I have is the extension has a gas flue pipe coming out off centre, you say the leave it rolled out to clematis or stretch, how do I get it smooth amd get the bubbles out around the flue pipe before I relay the pipe boot, thus us going to be my first attempt at this amd I have to get the old stuff of the roof first also my extension is attached to next door neighbours that he has felt on so how to I join it over or under his roof, sorry for all the questions and don't slaughter me lol
Hi there, just after some advice on the rubber itself. What do you do when you get a large crease in it that won’t brush out? I’ve just done a 7m x 3.5m on my garage roof today and it had one from when it was folded. The only solution I had was to put weight on it overnight. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. This is the second roof I’ve done following your system so I know it won’t be the last so want to be prepared for the next. 🤣🤣
Thanks a lot. Building myself a workshop to similar specs and these videos are helping a-plenty. Rather than “painting myself into a corner” I used a roller extension pole. Felt this was safer as l less likely to fall backwards off the edge.
