I decided to make a video expressing my experience in Full Sail University thus far. The first 3 months of classes for me were Creative Presentation, TEM, and 3D Foundations. I have highly enjoyed my time here and will continue to upload these kind of videos every month as I finish a class.
To get a summary of this video, fast forward to 10:05

Thank you so much for starting this series! I feel 100% better now and seriously can't wait! I'll be doing Computer Animation online too so at least now I have some insight! I get to skip English Comp since I already took it at my last school so yay on that lol Turning on notifications for your videos now!

I skimmed through to see if someone already asked this question, but full disclosure ...I might have missed it. SO, they ask that you have this : Applicants should possess artistic skills. Traditional visual art classes and a foundation in sketching, sculpting, and painting are recommended prior to entering the program. What are they looking for exactly? Classes, ability to draw a stick figure with a stick figure dog, or what?
@TetradArt
@TetradArt 3 года назад
So it’s super helpful to know drawing. They will look for more than stick figures but they also don’t require you to draw realistically. I never did any traditional painting. The only sculpting I did was in Zbrush (never any clay). Just having some basic art skills in both traditional and digital mediums is helpful

I know this video is super old, but I’m still curious. Did you have any previous 3D knowledge before starting this school? I already have a BFA in Creative Writing from FSU and am considering doing Computer Animation. But I’m terrified because I have no 3D model skills...and if I can’t figure out how to correctly use the programs...how far will I get?
@TetradArt
@TetradArt 4 года назад
Not only did I have no 3D experience, I had never even heard of Maya, Zbrush, or any other programs used. They do an excellent job at easing you in and helping you understand how to use them. Take good notes and you’ll be just fine. No worries!

I'm hoping your still reading and answering comments. I am in a similar situation as you were with transfer credits. I am starting in game art on August 31st and I have credits from another school for psychology and English comp 1, so my schedule will be like yours. My question is when did you recieve your laptop from them since you started 3D foundation in month 3? Did you recieve it in time for the class to start?
@TetradArt

Yes I got my launch box about 2 weeks before 3DF started. Plenty of time to set it up and get acquainted with it. Keep in mind they don’t put any of the programs on the computer for you. The access codes are sent to your student email and you’ll have to do it yourself. I didn’t know that until my first day of 3DF

@@TetradArt I started this program a little bit before you did, which was around September of 2017 and I liked the first five classes. So, starting off with the Creative Presentation class, fun class. It was nice to be assigned some group projects to critique my peers’ presentations and have them critique mine. Not to brag, but I think my presentation was probably the one that stood out in that month. I used PowerPoint for my animations, and my instructor Desirai was really impressed, she was like “Wow, you did all of this using PowerPoint?!” Psychology of Play was pretty cool. Again, the group project was fun to do, but I don’t really get why only the team captain can submit the assignment and I cannot. Oh, well, it’s a little nitpick. The weekly plans were pretty challenging to do, but still fun. My instructor Johnna was cool, but there was one incident where she changed the schedule and assigned a new class that wasn’t in the original schedule (and I had to be out of town by then) T.E.M. was also a fun class. It was cool learning about the history of technology, and again, the group project was fun. My project was about The Rise and Fall of the film studio Orion, and we mostly succeeded. The instructor Chad was just hilarious and just a fun teacher (though one class, he got a little bit political, which gets under my skin) English Comp: What can I say. It’s just an English class. I analyzed an advertisement throughout the month, and I used the website TurnItIn for submission instead of submitting in on to FSO (which I don’t get, but whatever). This was a class that was online no matter what, regardless of whether I am a campus or online student, so it was nice to have a month off from going to campus. 3D Foundations: A great introduction to Maya and the overall 3D modeling pipeline. Considering I had never heard of Maya before, my instructor Steve Gold made it easy and fun to learn (and he’s just a funny teacher in general). He had catchphrases too: “Does that make sense? Can I get a hell yeah?” The lab instructors Marcus and Sarah were cool people that know there stuff and they will not hesitate to help you if you are having trouble with your Skill Check or your assignment (though they don’t walk around to check on your work, they help you only if you walk up to them). The Skill Checks and assignments were fun to do, as long as you didn’t wait until the last minute to complete, and you take some notes too. Note, because of the annual Full Sail Hall of Fame occurring at the same time, I had a week off from class because I was required to attend the Hall of Fame (which was fun). The downside is that when I got back to class, Steve was sick with pneumonia, so Brian, the man who recorded the lectures online, filled in for Steve, and was a fun substitute. As a campus student, I had to show up on time for lectures and you stay for labs for six to four hours depending on the length of the lecture. You are expected to remain in class for 8 hours because in future classes, the instructor will take a roll call every two hours. Fortunately, for these first three classes, they didn’t do roll and I signed my name into the attendance sheet (just because that’s their preferred method).

Is it harder to take classes in the university itself than online?
@TetradArt
@TetradArt 6 лет назад
I haven’t been to Full Sail in person but I can say that taking classes online through Full Sail is way easier that when I was actually going to a community college here in Indiana. Best part is that you get to make your own schedule
@owl9130
@owl9130 6 лет назад
@@TetradArt Yes ive heard of that. I think its really cool but it also scares me a bit. Its a big responsibility, and im not THAT responsible at the moment. I really want to go to this university, but im afraid im not good enough. I get that you have to do these thing with passion, and i think im passionate about what i like, but the thing thats blocking my way is responsibility. Im a really lazy person, mostly because i rarely exercise, and i dont like to be too social with people. Memory is also a very important asset, which is something I do not have. I would die just to go to this college. But im lacking very important things to go to it. Also very random question, but im assuming this college has a fitness?
@TetradArt
@TetradArt 6 лет назад
You do have to have a basic understanding of simple artistic things such as drawing but in terms of everything else, they teach you. You don’t really have to know anything going into it. In terms of being active and sociable, I sit at my computer for hours on end and hardly talk to anyone. Granted this is because I’m online. I don’t think I’ve had an actual conversation with anyone from the school that was more than one email long. In terms of memory, that’s something that can be solved with a calendar and some dry erase markers. Without those, I would probably forget things too. Respectability, however, won’t be solved as easy. That’s something that you’ll have to work hard on. Just remember, this is your future. Don’t waste it because the new Spider-Man game just came out because if you can make it through this school and be one of the few that can say “I graduated from Full Sail University” you might get your name in the credits of the next big superhero game. I don’t know if they have a fitness center.

@@TetradArt I think I know this basics. I have my own steps on how to draw. I knew the basics for photoshop, and I still kinda do, I just cant remember so clearly. The reason for that is because the only time i ever used photoshop was in 10th grade, and I never planned on downloading it. And although my life right now is very unorganized, im slowly getting used to being organized. I would like to go to this college in person, since I live in miami and all. Also I just realized why I even asked you if theres a fitness because i literally watched the video not too long ago. LOL.
