I have to confess that despite having just heard about this addon and being greatly interested in its potential, this still looks quite overwhelming :P. I think I need to find a tutorial series that goes over the basics.

Can we have a tutorial about decals on top of a already existing texture?

Hey Rudy! Love Materializer! I was just wondering, what would be the best workflow for making custom decals? I have been adding them in the "old fashioned" way, but it might be much easier to add them using Fluent tools.

Hi there! While I had heard about Fluent before, since I was already pretty happy with Boxcutter and HardOps I didn't feel like investing the time to make a switch. But having looked at a few demos from you on both Fluent and Materializer, I'm starting to think I want to look into switching. Small differences here and there that just suit my mind better perhaps? Anyway: in the comments below a guy asked for normal maps on the decals and you had already done that. But I was thinking the same about the liquid stains. To me, those should leave a very small residue of salt or whatever, that should show in the normal maps. Is it already possible to mix that map in with another map to get the correct normals from the liquid stains? I notice that map has no normal output. Also, and this is important to me: are the normal maps "strength" controlled by distance from the bump map node (this is correct and distance should be like 0.001 or smaller in most cases) ) or do you rely on the "strenght" parameter in the bump map node (which is wrong, but many tutorials use it. It does not give the same result as entering a correct distance for the size of the normal change). An example: the default bump map distance is 1.0 which is 1m. So setting up metal scratches with 1.0 indicates that the scratches are 1m deep. Using the 'strenght' parameter to "fade the effect out" still keeps the 1m scratch but uses opacity to make it seem "less obviously wrong" by fading it out. A metal scratch should be in the 1/10 or a mm range, or 0.0001 distance in the bump map node. I hope you find this comment and can reply to it. Your plugins look really great! If I make a change to your addons, I'd also be interested in beta testing and providng educational content. Let me know if interested. Keep it up!

The node graph got fairly slow around the rust part. I'm guessing there should be some way in Blender to freeze nodes or checkpoint them so they don't have to recalculate. I'm new to this stuff though, so I'm just following along. I did only a couple of tutorials for Mari and theirs was fairly easy (not that Mari as a whole is). From what I could search, it's a planned feature, so I don't know what to break off and bake yet to emulate that feature. I'm guessing stuff like rust are compound/group nodes. I learned alot though. It's cool to see results so you one can learn how to experiment.

the edge and cavity masks can be baked to speed up the viewport if it's to slow for you. 😉

Love this plugin and I use it more and more:) Quick question. The decal functionallity is great, but would it be possible to add a normal option to them? To make them more tactile or give them some depth/thickness?

Already done :) Check the last video about the 1.2 update. In the pie menu, you will find the function in decal section.

Hi Rudy! I got stuck on minute 15:00 when adding a new mix layer it seems blender 4.1 changed some node names and it´s not working anymore? is there a workaround for connecting a new mix layer to add more detail? Kind regards, Jc.
@juancarlosuribe
@juancarlosuribe 2 месяца назад
I found that in 4.1 to add the cavity and new layer you have to select the node that is after the one seen in the tutorial, so the principled bsdf for it to work, and i can see also some parameters like the Threshold behave very differently from your tutorial, still I really love this addon I´m enjoying it very much and I´m very happy I bought it.

Hi I just bought Fluent Materializer and installed installed the 1.3.1 zip addon. When I have the Fluent tab open, I do not see the "Library/Tools" you have here. All I see is "Shader" with 3 different Bake settings. What am I doing wrong?

how are the nodes connecting to things, you didnt explain how they click and connect automatically.

Yeah, he should display the keys, but that's just node wrangler stuff. I just start using Copilot to ask questions for any tiny thing. Just 'O' to quick connect the node and Ctrl-Shift-Left Click to cycle the output.
