I take the first ride on my 1987 Suzuki Lt500 (Quadzilla) and give it full throttle to see how fast it can go. Thanks for watching and subscribing! New videos every week! Instagram: 2_vintage_ Snap: the2vintage
Is it just me or does he half throttle every gear. I don’t think I hear it in power band once this video. Because I know for facts them quads are fucking monsters.
Hahahaha that was priceless, I looked paul turner up and he's pretty good. This it the radiator. D.G. not really sure what that is. Oh it's got disc breaks on the back so that's sweet. I guess he was expecting rubber stoppers on either side like a huffy. This dude dosnt know a fn thing about bikes. He went from a blaster to a quadrillion. He needs to sell that back to a guy who wears big boy pants and stick to the dirt bikes they sell at pep boys.
Y’all need to stop engine breaking on them 2 strokes, making me cringe. Pull that clutch in when u get off the throttle and give it some flicks.....YOU ARE STARVING THE CYLINDER OF FUEL....hurting your motor and shortening the life of your top end
The only oil they hold is gear oil on the clutch side to keep the clutch lubed, and the other gears(depending on bike).. the cylinder/piston is not lubricated by oil sitting under the crank. This is why you mix fuel with 2 stroke oil, so when the fuel is burning in your top end the oil mixed in the fuel will lubricate the cylinder. That’s why they run best when you ride in high rpms, because the carb is open, letting plenty of “lubricating fuel” into the cylinder. So when you’re cruising at high speeds and let off the throttle, so the carb slide is at idle position, your piston is still moving up n down at a fast rate with minimal “lubricating fuel” getting into it.. this is why it’s important when you get off the throttle to pull your clutch in and give it some flicks. pulling the clutch in will obviously slow your piston down to idling rate, and the throttle flicks will keep it lubricated with mixed fuel.... as you can see this dude is constantly riding his 2smokers around on the throttle, off the throttle, on, off, and so forth, without pulling the clutch in ever. This is why his bikes always die.. and he never lets them warm up. A 2stroke runs totally different when cold
Bladeroo always use premium gas and synthetic 2 stroke oil, always let it warm up properly before you start ripping it. And research the correct gear oil for you clutch side case it defers for different brand bikes.
@@blade8823 I'm 38 years old and have ridden for 30-31 years maybe, and most of that time 2 strokes. Mostly 250R's, a couple banshees, a shitty blaster, CR250, and a few others along with some 4 strokes as well. But, what I was getting to, its so funny to see younger people look at 2 strokes like some big mystery. I remember when the first 400EX came out, I had bought a brand-new 98 warrior the year before it. That was the best 4 stroke really you could get at the time, then the 300EX, but I remember being pissed that I didn't wait the few months for the 400EX. Cause that pretty much ended up being the bike that started the whole 4 stroke craze. It was the first 4 banger that wasn't a dog. Then they kept getting better from there. And then they stopped making 2 strokes for the most part and here we are now. People don't even know how to start, ride, and maintain them. I just got out of the Army and started ridding more again and everything is so different. BUT, I still have my favorite bike, my '89 TRX259R, and I'd still put it up against ANYTHING today. If you want the best 4wheeler ever made, you go get, if you can find one that either isn't junk, or a $10,000 race machine, you go get an 86-89 Honda TRX250R
The 87's are notorious for a variety of engine issues, coolant leak issues etc. There's great info out there on the issues...Go to Mr. Dune's Sandbox, he's the expert. Nice buy, the haters can keep hating, they don't have one. lol Edit: You have a gem here, don't go on the cheap...spend some cash & get her fixed up right & you have a thrill to ride for years!
Thomas Lenhart I know people who have had these bikes the best way to warm them up to take it a little easy on them for a while when they sit to warm up they get temperamental and will eventually die and have problems starting again
Matthew Gates well no he is going have throttle I just puts around on mine for like 5-10 mins no power band but he just sits for 2 mins and then just gives er
The part you referred to as the oil pump is actually the power valve viewing window. You can see when it opens and at what rpm. You can fine tune it on the other side of the jug by turning a "screw" in or out.
Symptoms of a internal crack in the head, or head gasket causing a coolant leak into the oil. One test for this possible problem, remove the radiator cap and look into the radiator while kicking the kick starter. Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug first, though to keep it from starting. You should not see any bubbles or very little coolant movement while doing this. You can also test by removing the spark plug and pushing down on the kick starter and you should not see coolant squirting out the spark plug hole. Also the internal spark plug electrode should not be wet with coolant. Hope this helps.
No, YZ was mono shock. KX was uni track. CR was pro-link and RM was full floater. This is SO 80's nostalgia for me! I grew up a teenager in the 80's graduated HS in 91. I love the way this quad is laid out low and sleek. Its like the opposite of the Raptor which sits up tall and looks top heavy. The raptor looks like if this had the front and back compressed inward and this looks like a raptor squashed down from the top. The raptor seems like it would roll easier. I've seen videos where people put a GSXR engine in a raptor and convert it for the street but theses look like they would be better for doing that because of the way they are laid out also besides looking more top heavy the Raptor also has a shorter wheelbase. I would love to see a video of this racing a banshee and a raptor.
Christopher Walker ur exactly right about The 80s bikes and sport quads I graduated in 1990 went to work bought me a truck then saved enough money to buy my cousin 88 Honda 250R with maybe 5 tanks of gas ran through it then it was stored in his hay Barn. Miss those days when I was in high school my older brother bought a new 86 250R Honda The cost I remember was $2250 out the door u can't buy one for that amount now. But 86 to 89 was only years honda produced them. I did own a ATC250R thing was wicked fast. But nothing compared to a CR500 my buddy had way to much power for me lol
I'm not a fan of 4 wheelers at all but that quad is bad ass. You should consider holding on to that one. I love zukis. Full floater. Suzuki was the first with the modern rear suspension design you see today. Great vid.
This guy is scared of the powerband, i dont think he even knows what the powerband is tbh. Rides everything like a 4 stroke and thats why all his stuff is garbage
Honestly he just coasts through the gears, 2strokes you need to be on the gas smacking through gears or your gonna foul plugs, which I’m sure he does ALOT
Shocker. Runs like a turd..Yup all half throttle cause it's another beat pile with low compression and I've yet to see the front wheel lift..I mean damn kid u keep buying these piles...if it won't rev or pull the wheels up odds are it's probably shit..two strokes are snappy wild rip your arms off beast mode, maybe buy a 4 stroke from now on
A bit of both....machines and a sofr right wrist in my opinion. I love 2 stroke insanity. For me its a 250 mx bike for the most fun powerband that is still rideable. Twist that shit and HOLD IT FFS.
Bro u would be hanging on for dear life if that thing was running right. Seems like every 2 stroke u buy is clapped. No power band u sure don't know ur 2 smokes lol ..
Luv Dem Rotti's another key board 2 stroke joker. the water pump is weeping can hear it when he fired it up. I'll bet your ass That pipe alone cost more then your weekly pay check
I like how you heart every comment that gives you a compliment and then just completely ignore every commenter telling you that you ride 2 strokes like a 12 year old girl. I think you know you need to grow a pair and actually open up that throttle. If you do that this page will be amazing.
Ok guys. Ive owned a few. Seen this one forsale down by me. The heads on 87 have 6 bolts. Looks like the water pump seal went out. Make sure your top gasket is indexed correctly! Plus its geared high you can hear it. I recommend the M10 studs in jug since you lose one stud for that year 88s and up have 7. Gear it lower for the high gear box on 87. Plus get a chain guard. Still nice machine. Got any questions ask me.
87's had a bad deal of head gaskets blowing because the faulty design of the head cooling. They fixed that on the 88+ machines. Also they upgraded the front suspension on 88+. Generally 87 is the year to stay away from. Suzuki learned a lot from that model.
The thing runs pretty good but you are short shifting rev it out a little more. Your half throttling all of the gears. I know that the video doesn't do a justice but judging by the engine revs you got to give er more gas. lol
They were more notorious then BIGGY SMALLS when it came to coolant leaks. Most of the times it was due to the small head studs. 89-90 was the better years 87-88 your lucky to see one run, yet be assembled.
old skool83 not true, they're all amazing bikes. Yes they have some problems but that last statement is far from true I've seen so many 87s fully built.
the head nuts are new and usually flanged on cylinder heads i worked on, doesnt make sense to have unflanged nuts on it when mating two flat surfaces together.so im guessing its been apart recently, never seen one running before but was hoping for a far crisper sound from it and more response. hope its not a cracked cylinder or one thats been messed with. lots of trick parts on it. what is the engine from ? is it used in any other bikes?
I was coming here to make the same comment. lol the blaster wasn't a great engine. It had small ports and poor cooling. The lt250r is a much better machine
2 vintage, you're getting coolant into the cylinder from the head gasket or base gasket, as another viewer posted the studs are small and can't take high pressure from the sustained high rpms. if ya have coolant in your oil that means you have a sealing failure your in your bottom end cases between the crank and trans.hope this helps.
I used to race these in the late 80s in the open class atv motox. Amazing machine. One of the best ever made. People were getting killed on the 250r three wheeler so what was the answer ? Let’s add another wheel and double the engine displacement 😂 You have to love the 80s the total opposite of politically correct. Now or days there would be protest saying it’s not safe for my little Johnny. I still have an 87 mint condition. Check out Dr. Q he’s the guy you want to learn from about these machines. Throw a dirt bike throttle on that thing and get the rpms much higher and you will see what that there quad does. Enjoy
Omg most informative video ever he showed me brakes a hole that looks like a hole but isn't a hole then showed me where you can put oil and how much then showed me a sticker and finally he got out his tire thread measurement tool/his hand and on the front tire well it has tread ohh he likes the clutch....lol
Thats just nonsense...learn to turn a wrench is more like it. In case ya hadn't noticed Yamaha is the only Japanese builder making 2 stroke bikes. Ya want a KX250 or a CR125 ya gotta buy used. Just know what to look for, and what it should feel like when its right. Keep the smokers alive!!
You guys are paranoid idiots. Its JUST AN ENGINE. Make sure its right, like you would with anything that goes, and have fun. Don't buy used 2 strokes from strangers....thats just retarded.
Easiest fix if he knew what the fuck he was talking about. A leak down test will tell you where your leak is. But I’d do a full rebuild and not have a second thought
Guys get this comment to the top it’s the intake manifold boot my banshee sounded almost the same and when I replaced the boot it ran like a brand new banshee
All of y'alls videos are good I love all of y'alls bikes I love all of y'alls quads I especially love the Honda cr 500 bike that things a monster bike out of all the other bikes that one is my favorite I love all of the videos y'all post
This is a rebuild gone wrong, if coolant is in the oil the water pump seal is bad. My cousin had one of these things and I loved spanking him with my banshee😂😂😂. NO REFUNDS DUDE. Time for you to spend another$1000 to get it fixed right.😬😬🤯
That black thing you measured with your hand in the beginning of the video is the cylinder the head is the non painted part on top. You have cracked cylinder ears on the back two cylinder mounts most likely. Causes a coolant leak and more importantly a lean condition that can melt down your top end. These bikes need a lot of modifications to be reliable and reinforcing the cylinder ears is one of the many. Welcome to Suzuki lt500 ownership!
You'll never get that coolant leak to stop. Been dealing with it for years and years. No one can figure it out. Wait till the head gaskets start blowing due to the undersized head bolts used on the cylinder. Threads are stretching. There's a fix using the 88 head but it requires machine work. Good luck man.
Too the people complaining about how he’s not getting into the power band. You’ve clearly never ridin a quadzilla, it’s a 500cc single cylinder it makes all of it power under 7000 rpm. The power band is pretty much instant. He was alway in it, these quads have pretty unnoticeable power bands and run a lot like a 4 stroke and have crazy torque. Yes I know this one was pretty clapped but the same thing applies.
What year is your suzuki ltz 500 quad? I know those 4 wheelers were sick fast screamin' demons! I recall a friend of mine had 1 & myself & another friend followed him in a old 77 pontiac trans am & we were following him on a really curvy asphalt road and the quad would take off & my buddy driving the trans am would pull up behind him hitting 75 to 85+ mph & friend on the 500 quad would take off again & we couldn't keep up with him at all? I know the guy on the quadzilla was easily going 100++ mph?!
Why is this comment section so toxic this guy is a good guy that is trying to show us stuff that is really cool he might need a little shifting practice but he can work on that just enjoy the video
Nice, fast quad!! I love it!! You guys definitely need to keep it, but the sound it made at the end sounded pretty dang bad, I had a coolant leak on my dirt bike (2 stroke) and didn’t know it was leaking and it made that noise. Wound up i blew the top end but i hope that isn’t your case:(
You should definitely get the proper nuts for the cylinder and make sure there torqued right. The coolant probably came from the radiator and sprayed all over the engine. Make sure its not overheating.
A quadzilla with a head leak, ya don't say, the model with (5) 10mil cylinder head caps are apparently notorious for leaks and they fixed it by going to 12mm nuts I think.. maybe even a sixth stud, I can't remember, but beautiful bike, hope you get it running right, something on the cylinder seems to not be meshing right from what I could see in the video, the powervalve wasn't opening either and/or it was falling on it's face at that point and you just thought it was the Rev limiter.. Just My Opinion, I've only ridden one once that was a very tied looking quad and when the powervalve opened in third on the road it stood up smoothly, I could tell any lower gear would have been a violent onset of power, it was lovely..
Water pump seal is gone. Your crankcase is now full of oil, water and coolant. This is part of the reason its not running well. Drain it, remove the clutch cover. Replace the pump oil and water seals. Check the pump shaft to make sure its not worn in seal area. Reassemble. Flush out transmission.
$4000 for this bike,my God I remember all these bikes when they were new,you youngsters today are really nuts to pay that kind of money for a two stroke,I don't care what condition they are in,hey end of the day it's your money buddy,I hope you enjoy it,nice bike none the less!
@@chadfolmar5900 Agreed.... One way to see if shes ready to rip is to put your hand on the cylinder to see if its warm once started and idling (For you 2 stroke newbs)
That's a BAD ASS looking machine bud! Over paid for a machine that had issues, I'd take it back and talk with the owner in person. Ask for money some money back or give the machine completely back with full refund. That's bullshit to pay $4,000 and have issues.
I had a similar problem with my old rm125 the radiator would be dry after every ride it always went into the bottom end and made the gear oil look like pink Pepto. Just go with all new gaskets base, head, and especially your water pump seal.
This looks like a crack on the cylinder but don’t worry just replace that and make sure not having a oil on the coolant mix together. Flush this and good to go . It’s a bad ass machine !
I've ridden a few of these back in the day. Still the Honda 250r from 86-89 was alot scarier. Probably why they banned them shortly after. I know the death toll was particularly high, especially the 3-wheeler versions.
