Fuck. Im running 11 minute miles. Got a 100 mile coming up in 2 weeks. Im not worried about placing, just want to finish. Been running 100 a week, but mostly on concrete with slim to none elevation and this is a trail run, well see what happens.
So how does someone go from running 4 or 5 miles at a time, to 10 without shin splints, I've been running for about a year an need some help, I've got down my running form, I feel like sometimes I might be running too much
Try increasing just one run a week. Keep your other runs where they're at, or even cut a few down to 3 miles, but 1 run a week up it by about a mile a week. If you're body is handling it well, you can increase the other runs a little too if you want. And be sure to take your rest days. Many of us can't run 6-7 days a week or we'll get injured.
Go super slow for about 2 miles. Just above a walk. Then start picking up the pace each mile. I struggled with this, assuming you are describing burning in your shins that goes away after you are done running? Which are not quite shin splints but hurt so bad while running.
