As we are preparing to leave HTR Niagara in New York, we check our travel plans, and it shows we have a quick overnight stop before arriving in Pennsylvania. We assume that is because it’s a long distance to the next spot, so we begin preparing for a long travel day. As we look up our driving directions, we realize it’s actually a short travel day, and we remember why we booked an overnight stay with such a short driving distance!
We arrive at the KOA Chautauqua Lake KOA Holiday in Dewittville, New York, where we will stay hooked up to the truck for the night. Since set-up is quick, we take the kids to the playground to get some of their energy out. We end up using the playground, playing in the sandbox, playing mini-golf and cornhole and even running through the splash pad, before calling it a night. The next day, Kevin faces one of his biggest fears as we leave the KOA! We travel to Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Kozy Rest in Pennsylvania without any problems and have a nice site with plenty of room to spread out!

We stayed at Chautauqua KOA Memorial week 2020 during Covid. It’s is a tight campground for big rigs. We had fun there and at the lake. BTW, we’re leaving tomorrow for Ohio our first stop on our fall trip.

It is a super tight campground getting from the gate to the back area! That first turn we took up all the space to avoid hitting the post on the corner! We just got to Ohio this week! We are in the Cleveland area!

We've been to that Yogibear a couple times visiting my Cousin and his family who have a permanent site right in the front. I'd say that's one of the tightest driving camp grounds we've been in. When it's busy there it's quite a challenge to back in a big rig with cars on both side of the road but everyone has always been helpful. I think things start to shut down to early around here. That camp ground is expensive, I think we paid 108/night this summer and I think it's crap when your still getting charged full price and most of the amenities are closed.
@PavingNewPaths
@PavingNewPaths Год назад
We were lucky when we parked that no one was there! But over the weekend it filled up and we were having to move all kinds of trucks to help people get in their spots! We only paid $79 a night so we felt it was a good price even if they have reduced activities!

We are heading out mid October to NM, AZ, and UT to see some National Parks. This is the year our 4th grader grandson gets his family in free at national parks and monuments. I'm sure we will run into all the seasonal closings too. It is shocking to Houstonians because we are usually still hot at Halloween. Pumpkin Patches, Fall Festivals, etc. are still sweat fests. Lol You would hate our schedule. I've packed it from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with driving and sightseeing. White Sands N P, Petrified Forest N P, Meteor Crater, Sunset Crater Volcano and Waptiki, Grand Canyon N P, Zion N P, Bryce Canyon N P, 4 Corners Monument, Mesa Verde N P., Great Sand Dunes N P, and Palo Duro Canyon. We are not doing hikes. Just stopping at overlooks or shorrt hikes. Mom is 90 and too frail and after hubby broke his knee last year, walking on a trail is out for him - too risky for another fall. The grandkids and their parents could do some trails hut really we just want to see the sights this trip. Probably will be the last one for mom, but I said that in 2018. Who knows? Kids will be.sick of the car, we all will be, but we wanted to see as much as we could so its a 10 day driving marathon with 4 drivers. We will let the kids slide at White Sands, they will love that. We will do the short hikes at Grand Canyon to the rim, we will watch the movie at Meteor Crater. We will stop at all 16 overlooks at Bryce, we will do the trail at Petrified Forest at the visitor center and will stop at all the overlooks. Mesa Verde we will just do the drive and overlooks. Grandson is scared of heights and won't climb the ladders there. We will have a day of 10 hours driving going and one coming home. I've actually been to all these sights at least 2 times and several more that that. Like you are doing, my parents took us across the USA as kids. I remember it today just as your kids will, especially as they get older. Anyway, I'm prepared for some things to be closed. Waiting to see your PA adventures. Ive been to PA but really only remember Philadelphia. The Liberty Bell is blazed into my memory.

Friends of ours had a campground gate comedown on the roof of their trailer. It damaged their roof. Insurance is now paying for. A new roof for their trailer The gate hit the roof in four different spots. The roof membrane got cuts along the edge at each spot the gate hit.
@PavingNewPaths
@PavingNewPaths Год назад
Yikes! Almost every gate we see is bent or has a cushion attached to it, so you know it's hit someone's property! It's worrisome with just a vehicle, but worth an extra 44 feet of RV behind you, it makes it that much more stressful! Sorry for your friends luck, but glad to hear insurance did right by them!

Living in an RV full time seems like torture to me only to be endured as a last resort. For all the money you spend on an RV, Truck, and everything else, I could get a lot of hotel rooms and travel in comfort.
@PavingNewPaths
@PavingNewPaths 11 месяцев назад
if you are going on vacation the hotel rooms and all inclusive places will be cheaper than trying to enjoy and RV! However if you are traveling fulltime and living on the road, this way of living is over half the price of what we paid to own a home, and we get to travel as a family and see this beautiful country of ours! But as with anything in life, people that have bad experiences usually had unrealistic expectations about what RVing was going to be like!

Quick question.....since you have Schwintek slides on your 5th wheel, would there be any use in covering those toothed rails with blue painters' tape after you get settled then remove it before packing up just to keep them clean and free of debris???...I know how sensitive they are to fouling and then jamming........just wondering.

We have been traveling now fulltime for 3 years and have never done anything to the rails but spray and clean them a few times a year!

I’m just curious what tools do u use to plot ur trips. I’m just starting out 3rd year and if I have a 4 day trip I’m having a hard time figuring my stops and where to stop.😎🇺🇸☠️✌🏻

We use a combination of things! We stated off with an assortment of apps, now we use RV trip wizard and some other apps to plan! This is the video about how we do it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fkAjEtWRJgo.html

How do you all travel from site to site? I think you have 3 kids and a dog so how do you all fit in your truck? We have 2 kids and 2 dogs so we are trying to figure out how we are going to travel.

We showed how we fit in the truck in the video! The kids each have a car seat in the back and buddy has a bed he lays down on in the rear floorboard!

It is doing great! Ours came only with the Lippert Equaflex equalizers! We added the Morryde Wet bolt, and shackle kit as well as the Morryde Crossmembers! Been 3 years of fulltime travel and no issues at all!

They are usually pricey and are older campgrounds! Most have been great but there are a few that are not worth it!

Haha! Kevin is always on time! Unfortunately, the kids and I make him late a lot! He often tells me we have to be places 30 minutes to an hour early so that we will be somewhat on time!
