Flamma sent me few more pedals to check out, I find way more fun fun sounds than I was expecting in the modulation, some familiar features in the looper and stereo IR mixing in the CAB. But what do you think?

I think the "duty" function controls the length of the square wave. The left = long pause, short sound. The right = short pause, long sound. That's what it sounds like to me.

As far as I could figure out while trying this pedal, setting "Duty Cycle" hard left or hard right gives the modulation LFO's waveform a hard, clipped attack. Settings along the middle sweep soften the wave shape. Left side vs. right side sound pretty symmetrical and similar. On all effects (even Auto-Wah), the cycle is controlled by the LFO, not by your picking envelope.

I got one of their mini drum looper pedals. Great practice tool. I liked it enough to buy another for somebody else. One thing I gotta say tho, and it's kinda common among all the budget pedals I think, but particularly frustrating with the loopers. The stomp switches are often wonky and don't operate with precision, but I've found if you lube the switch with a drop of wd40 and work it in they function with absolute precision. I do it to all the cheap pedals now.

These guys do make some great modulation pedals. Though it’s not currently on my board, I bought a Flamma Delay after seeing Josh review it on the JHS Show. Lots of options and multiple ways to tweek each of them. Great price, too.

Smooth Sailing by QOTSA has ring modulation. So does Cheap Sunglasses by ZZ Top. It's definitely an underused effect. Enjoyable video, as always.

good clean fun :D I picked up the mini modulation pedal (same as this one, but missing the second tweak knob) I got it just for the filter setting, the rest is the same. not bad for a cheap pedal :) keep making fun videos!

The FS05 is definitely stereo in a lot of the settings. The rotary and chorus are especially nice in stereo on that one.

Early Devo used ring mod, but synth driven. Thinking of "Mechanical Man." Definitely not on the radio or in the last decade. That lo-bit setting actually sounds like that era of Devo as well.

I bought the Modulation pedal, mainly because of the presets. Great sounds for the price, but a small volume drop and a bit of digital noise (exaggerated because I use 3/4 gain pedals). Also it automatically goes back to the preset when turned on and off, there's no way to actually get what's on the knobs without turning them all, and you have to then save it to a preset for it to return when you press footswitch on/off. Then I found out it's the same pedal as the Mooer Mod Factory. Same effects, no presets or stereo, but none of the above issues. The MKII version also has tap tempo and momentary speed ramp up if you hold the footswitch. Similar price to the Flamma. I bought it and I love it. There's also Flamma FC05, the fluroescent green baby brother of this pedal. Identical effects, smaller enclosure minus stereo, presets and one knob, and about half the price - currently $40. Bottom line, FS05 had too many issues to be a keeper for me - but really, any of them are good picks for affordable modulation in a small enclosure. They're lots of fun! I like to use them for a very subtle bit of fairy dust when I'm doing ambient guitar or shoegazey stuff. They come out well against the Zoom Multistomp effects.

Would you need the flamma fs06 and the 07 to have a no amp guitar sounding good? I'm trying to be on the budget and not having to buy a $400 iridium. Does these do the trick? I was even thinking in trying the preamp with its own simulation first

I got the smaller flamma muli-mod pedal and the Flanger is almost unuseable. Its too wooshy... if thats a thing. But, I agree about flanger-bass love.

@@briancherry8088 Have you tried turning the Ctrl knob all the way down? On my Mooer Mod Factory (same pedal internally) that is the tone knob, and completely down it sounds great, very subtle with the speed and depth low.

That 11th setting on the Modulation pedal should be called TIA (named for the controller board of the Atari 2600 that handled the sounds). But if you wanted to be cleverer still, call it SID (after the sound chip in the Commodore 64).

when you crank the control 1 knob all the way up on the trem setting it almost sounds like what would happen if you messed with an oscilloscope and "twisted" the wave back on itself..... hrmm.....

Duty is the length of each peak in volume, just like on the Boss SL-2 Slicer. And the Amp/Cab Sim sounds a lot better than the models and IRs in the Flamma FX100. You would think they'd have the same or at least similar sounds. The amps and IRs on the M-Vave Tank G sound better than the FX100.

I believe you also had the cab sim on for the Preamp as well since the LED was flashing. It might yield overall better results with that off when running into the Cab pedal also. Still a great video as always!

@@60CycleHumcast do it again! Haha JK. I actually have the Pre/Cab combo and I think it sounds pretty good. I haven’t compared it directly to my Iridium or HX Stomp, but I’ve been able to get sounds that I’m happy with out of it. It would be cool to see you try that combo instead of the ACS1 at church or something.

In signal processing I think duty typically refers to 'duty cycle' ... like 50% duty is high for half the cycle and low for half the cycle. 25% duty would be high for 25% of the cycle length and low for 75% on a square wave. I may be right I may be wrong.

Duty is the length of the stutter. Not like the time interva (which is rate)l. It is the duration each stutter is audible.

Their mini multi-mod pedal has a strange quirk - every time you want to use it you have to unplug it and plug it back in. You cant just power off the power brick and back on, or the power bar. It's so frustrating. Do these big ones do that too?

No, but it has another quirk - every time you turn the pedal on/off it goes back to the preset you're on. There is no way to actually just have what the knobs are without turning every knob to "reset" the parameter. I got a Mooer Mod Factory MKII and it's great. It's the Flamma mini, plus ramp up footswitch hold and series/parallel button to let through some of the dry signal.

I'd say they sound a bit less lush than some other modulations when I A/B'd them. But I use it (well a Mooer Mod Factory, same internals) for subtle mod with ambient guitar and it's perfect.

The Modulation Pedal..... Why put all of that info in a place that is virtually impossible to see...if it is on a pedal board? Loads of control over the effects with an extremely wide range. The Looper seems nice (I've opted for the Boss RC500 personally). The Stereo Cab Simulation Pedal could be fun for recording.... but I've got that kind of thing already in my DAW. Thanks for your fun "tour"!

I have the Flamma Mod, Pre and Looper/Drum and think they're pretty sweet, actually-- except for the PreAmp. The Pre got alot of good talk up but I couldn't get anything I liked out of it. I might find some use for it but I just didn't jive with it. The other two are good stuff for the value.

1:23 if you are a Graphic designer you would understand about font size and type setting, and clearly see that each list is quite extensive and has been split purely for practicality. If it was squeezed onto one side it would be very hard to read. I am not annoyed by it at all and actually think its a smart way to provide the list

I actually am a graphic designer, I went to college for it and bought my house with money I earned graphic designing, I would have found a way to organize all that info on one side, going from side to side is annoying and impractical. The pt size of the the typeface is not a barrier to proper organization of the information.

One issue with the Flamma pedals is latency. Since the pass through signal is digital, on or off each pedal adds .7mS of delay. This would be equivalent to the amp being about 8 inches farther away for each pedal in the chain. I own the Flamma reverb and found it a bit uninspired, but technology is good. Its an ARM cortex M7 @ 600MHz with an external SRAM. Empty pads for another chip, presumably a flash chip for the looper. Much more powerful than the Spin Semi chip everybody else seems to use, and cheaper than an ADI Sharc DSP used in high end pedals. Its a good compromise. I have similar pedal platform, 480Mhz ARM cortex M7 but with faster access to memory, but my costs are much higher as I do not build them 10,000 at a time. Its mostly for myself because I would need a retail price of around $300 and 100 customers to make it work as a business. It is hard to compete with a cheap mass market product that is good enough for most people.
