The difference between the FP guys and power project crew is that the power project boys are always trying to learn, always ask questions and rarely make absolute statements. I don't think FP ask one question. Be wary of people who think they have all the answers and are so certain of themselves.

good discussion of post-sport physical wellbeing... i was a high level soccer player (regional level in our olympic development system) and at some point you have to flip everything you trained and knew and tell the voice in your head that's saying "push through, push through, just keep going!!!!" to shut up. it's a hard switch from working to ignore the "too tired, too sore, lacking energy, should quit" voice your whole life.

Look, I have genetics I like to call "Extra Medium." I am not social-media strong...but at 55, I have ended up strong and agile compared to my age group out here in gen-pop. In my experience, being consistent with sleep, varied training, nutrition, recovery, and stress-reduction for a lifetime will defeat any one specific "pattern" of training.

Nsima's commentary about the sandbag part is spot on. FP claims to be about function, but they eschew all the actually functional aspects of strength.

Cool idea dissecting the episode. Nsima nails it about half way through- it’s all about capacity. Whether carrying the sandbag (for example) “leads to further disfunction” is based on capacity/structural balance. Do you have the lower leg strength? Do you have the low back strength? Do you have the hip flexor mobility/strength? These are all typically neglected areas in mainstream training. FP attacked ATG, whose goals are probably almost the same. ATG builds “hardware”, from the ground up, joint by joint, whereas I’m assuming FP is all “integrative” moves. FP seems to be pretty gatekept; if a person can’t learn what to do from the system (for the rest of their life), it’s not sustainable.

When Eric Weinstein was on the Joe Rogan podcast with Terrence Howard he made a comment to Terrence. It was something like “if you stare at your own ideas long enough you’ll begin to see god”. I see a lot of Naudis approaches to conversations coming from this kind of thinking. He’s a great practitioner but very myopic in his thoughts. FP almost feels like it’s more of a religion than a modality of training.

FP is not a panacea for pain. Having a rigid philosophy without the ability to embrace all movement itself shows that a dogmatic approach will never be embraced by all. Naudi Aguilar has attacked coaches and created a cult following without hearing what other coaches have accomplished in their careers. The bottom line is there is room for all movement to be coached and there is no right or wrong- we are trying to find the appropriate approach for the goal of the client based on THEIR desire and aspiration.

At 49:00, the guys are having a hard time understanding what Rodney meant when he said “I wouldn’t walk around with it.” What he means is that walking around with a heavy sandbag has negative effects on your gait. Rodney recommends exercising with the heavy sandbag in other ways if one’s goal is to strengthen the body WHILE respecting the gait cycle. If a guy wanted to get really good at carrying a heavy sandbag while walking just for the hell of it (or if he needed to for a sport like strongman), then sure, go ahead and do it. It won’t help you sprint faster, jump higher, or throw harder, though. That’s all Rodney is saying.

Part of the issue with this episode is that you are trying to dissect and understand what they were saying without them there to clarify. As an ex-MMA fighter, current Jiu Jitsu competitor and a FP practitioner, the questions your asking are VERY GOOD questions, but the conclusions you’re coming to are a bit off (based on my depth of understanding when it comes to FP, which is limited)

Nsima- THANK YOU for giving K-Starr a shoutout. FP seems to think they invented MFR but Kelly started the mobility project in what…2006? Where would Naudi be without other people pioneering techniques for self care? The key here is collaboration. There isn’t a one size fits all solution to fitness. There are however best practices that FP could make a significant contribution to if they weren’t so arrogant. To see how aggressively FP enforces their NDA is embarrassing. Everyone I know who has become a devoted FP practitioner has since been excommunicated from the community! Crazy. I love that you guys are open, curious, generous and kind. We need more like you in the industry and less like those who gravitate towards FP.

You build a lot of bone density from loading as well as bending the bones. Good example would be the squat, you are loading your spine and bending your femurs and when you are running you are vertically loading the bones of the femurs so definitely do both

"If you gave me usian bolt i can we can make him faster" is an outrageous statement.
@Health-gi6jv
@Health-gi6jv Месяц назад
One thing to mention, I think Mike Mucciolo’s statement about being able to make Usian bolt sprint faster was misunderstood. He wasn’t trying to state out of “ego” or overconfidence that he could make Bolt run faster. He was trying to point out that because of Usain’s high quality genetic potential & resilience, with regards to his high level ability to move, the margin of error to make mistakes while training Bolt is very low, and it’s a lot easier to get the body to adapt/change. Than compared to training an average Joe who has either a scoliosis, large history of injuries, MS, hard time building muscle, etc. I’ve noticed this all the time in the past with training the average person versus an athlete. It’s a lot easier to get their body to make the necessary changes to improve itself because their genetics are less allowing to make a mistake. Versus a non-athlete or average joe with poor genetic potential, there is less room for the trainer to make mistakes.

I'm one of those smaller guys with imbalances that finds FP to be compelling but I agree with you guys that you don't necessarily need to give up everything else. I want to use FP to be able to do boxing, BJJ, rock climbing, and so on because that is how I functionally want to use my body with my lifestyle.

The things Nsim said at 50:17 really made me have an epifanny. I am starting to fall into the reality of, "if you dont use it you lose it" more and more and more now. Maybe because of the long ass hours of the postural habits we havei n the modern world it leads to stiffness, maybe isolated weight lifting consistency causes the adaptation to our body to make us stiff. We are meant to run throw walk and shit because thats just the designated design structure of our body, and causing adaptations against it makes us hurt and beats us up. But if we respect the bodies ability, do proper recovery work, move better, and also respect the amount of weight we throw around both on the barbell and on our body, i dont think there is anything wrong with weigh lifting. In the real world you are not going to pick up something super heavy the way you pick up a barbell, but you also arent going to pick it up the same way the FP guys do all these things they do. The barbell stuff will teach you how to brace, and give you the strength and neurological adaptations to fire the muscles and pick it up. But in the real world you will use your full body because it does give you torque, and leverage. And I cann see where the Fp stuff could come in, becuase its all about full body, and it does talk about bracing and etcc, but it lacks the raw strength training. Alot of the strentgh stuff they do is based of movement and leverage. Which is GREAT for fighting obviously. Which makes me see why they do so much pulley work. The body moves all together as one, its a tensegral structure that pulls on itself. Every movement i see the fp guys do, is basically a full body movement, that also enhances your ability to sprint.

Gangsters. The problem I have with FP is like you're talking with bringing them in and trying to get stronger, maybe put some muscle on and see what happens - they would never fkn do that. Why? idk... but it's like why not just do it for a little bit and see what happens? People in fitness get so dogmatic and tied to certain things, why not try everything and see what works best for YOU? AKA the message you guys constantly push on this podcast.

If you ever watch videos of professional athletes train at gym runners, soccer players. They train nothing like FP. FP say “the goal running at the core” but that not how the pros train to improve sprinting. Also no one at gym trains like pro athletes too. There big difference between the retail fitness industry, and the professional athletes do.

Another problema with FP is that what they do today has nothing to do with the goofy shit all neutral spine, instability etc they did in the beginning. They started adding atlas stone DL, clubbells, pull ups, head over foot movement, spine hyperextending etc…everything they we’re against but they still call it FP like this was the original philosophy, but they realized how limited they actually were…so they maintain the dogma in theory, but are doing stuff that many of was were doing for 10+ years

It’s so bizarre how they seem to prioritise fundamental human movement but somehow do not acknowledge sandbag training. Did they assume that anthropomorphically that we didn’t walk with heavy objects? Sounds like such a fragile view of human movement. Not to mention the fact that in my practice, the sandbag carry is one of the best ways to teach people to walk without lower back pain.
