Following our live streamed webinar on the same topic, this video demonstrates in practical terms some of the core principles discussed. You will learn how to identify the cardinal points on a shoe last like the balls, the vamp point, the vamp line, instep, counter point and back height. You will also learn how to create a mean forme from your last copies and then how to use that to create the patterns for different types of shoes like oxfords, derbys and loafers.

My problem with this is thats uts factory standard. And i have a problem with the length if the back. Also the length of last change between different shapes or types while not affecting the true size. So using the length of the last to make take other measurements from will lead to odd looking shoes

I have tried it on different lasts and believe me, it has to be an oddly shaped last first for the proportions to be off. You try it and let me know what you think. Then again, if you worry too much about elongated designs added to a last for merely aesthetic reasons, you can always subtract that length from your working length and proceed with the rule. The back heights appeared to be worrisome at first but after several trials, I can say that they pose no issues at all.

Again you do realize that you are building the shoe to fit the last and not the feet (size). So your first action should be to fit the feet to the last. After that work with the last.

We have a rule in Russia: height in the back is 26+ numeric size of the shoe in mm. For example 44 size is 26+44=70mm. No matter how long is the decorative tip of your last
