What a pleasure to watch true craftsmanship! It really helps to show people exactly how much has to go into creating good shoes that can last LONGER than the sole of the shoe. As well as why the cost may seem high but what you get will last a decade instead of months.

@@abelis644 It very much depended on your income level and your cobbler. Some would have standard sizes and churn out adequate shoes for workmen, which would still be hand-made, but not custom and not great quality. But others would indeed provide the best fit for every adult in their community. Also, you can see why, from this video, so many children once went barefoot as much as possible!

@J Hemphill People have made footwear since the first person stepped on a thorn of in snow... That's forever... Take a look at Ötzi's boots sometime, the 5000 year old man found in the Alps. People copied his shoes and said they were the most comfortable footwear they'd ever worn.

@@Monsieur.Nobody. Unfortunately, I can't help you with regard of material used, but it could be a medium hard plastic type. My father ( and please do remember that it was over 60 years ago) had standard wooden lasts in male/ female sizes. After taking individual measurements he would ' build the last up' using pieces of leather, eg, the width in all areas or arch support hight could be altered to individual parameters. You can get standard plastic lasts on Etsy, or possibly other sources. There is also videos on RU-vid by podotools with information how to customise standard lasts. I hope this helps. This was great to watch my father in law and brothers in law all make bespoke shoes, I used to watch them making them and learned how through them mostly father in law. He made them for 55 years before he got I’ll and passed away, watching you do this brought back good old memories, my love of all thinks bespoke, came from him, I had already worked in Jones the boot makers N’Hampton so my father in law gave me the most knowledge about real handmade shoes, he made me two pairs that I keep as my feet got older and bunions appeared, he was I. The middle of making a pair for my deformed feet before he passed, I kept the last and leather and all he’d made till this day, though now none of his sons work as bespoke shoemakers now, we all still love to get shoes made not bought off the shelf, cost more though i it’s worth it as they fit perfectly and last for donkeys years. Thanks for your video it was excellent craftsmanship.

How much money does a pair of handmade shoes actually cost? And how much time and expense to make them. Would there be a legitimate reason for boycotts? Otherwise the process of grooming & gelding looks slightly distasteful, even if you were Oliver Twist and a valued supply of commodity to somebody. It does have a slight air of Industrial Revolution era about it; except back in those days, anybody with some expendable income could walk into any old hat & shoe shop…it wasn’t like pretty woman, where you had to dress and behave in a particular way just to make a purchase & fit in with the social rules of being a customer.

The most meticulous thing I have ever sat and watched, particularly without fast forwarding. I was captivated by all the work and how it would come together. I’m also impressed that you have such beautiful hands to actually work with them, in particular with leather - it seems it would be hard on your hands/skin, perhaps you moisturizer, but either I was impressed all around.

I completely agree with all the great comments that you have received on this video. Your talent is tremendous!However, I must add that the skills you must possess to even maintain your tools are far greater than I could hope to achieve. That in and of itself is a tall order. Thank you very much for the video!

I have appreciated that video so much. It illustrates why a truly bespoke shoe costs what it does. The effort and detail that goes into the craft is enormous and requires experience and the right tools. Not to mention patience and passion. Thanks again.

The effort that goes into this is incredible! Even for the casts of the feet, they have to be made individually off each foot, I'm assuming, since people's left and right feet are rarely the same size.

What a wonderful process! I´ve never seen the process of shoemaking, so much work, so arduous. Thank you very much for sharing. I've got two questions just out of curiosity (and ignorance): 1) have you considered making the molds as a 3d scan and then printing it? is that possible? could it be faster? 2) have you ever been asked to make leather sneakers. I would suppose that's a thing Again, thanks. Beautiful work.
@alexandrefaure7247
@alexandrefaure7247 2 года назад
Hello thank you very much. Yes it is possible to 3D print, I just don't like this way of doing it and it's not faster. When you draw a shape on software, it's not the same thing as being able to actually see it, touch it, see the final result. For the sneakers, it's not in my current projects because it's not very interesting to make it custom. It is easier to find comfortable sneakers on the market than dress shoes.
