Kat Hart this bothers me as well. And pretty much everything you find to help with acne is geared towards people with oily/combo skin... as if these companies have NEVER heard of someone with dry skin suffering from acne! Uh, hi... WE DO EXIST!!!! 👋🏻

I have always had dry skin but I have always suffered from cystic acne, along with what I believe to fungal acne but I am not 100% sure if it is fungal acne or regular acne. I've never even heard of fungal acne until today. Revlon does make a dry skin foundation that I use. They also offer oily, and combination skin of the foundation.

Omg ik!!! Currently I'm crying because Im so frustrated because I can't find anything that won't dry my skin and strip the little moisture it even has while still treating my acne. Mostly cleansers for dry skin don't clean that well. It's so frustrating with this annoying sensitive skin I have.

All the dermatologists just WONT listen to us. They just always think they're right. And if the medicine they prescribe us doesn't work, they just switch to something stronger OR a different one. Like it is not their fault for not listening and actually spend over 5 minute talking to us.

I spent TEN YEARS with HORRIFIC bacne. I started using Selsun Blue and also put athletes foot creme on my back and its all healed up. I'm pissed at my doctor who had me on antibiotics, creams, etc, FOR YEARS.... did she even know there was a thing called fungal acne? Anyways I lost ten years of summers and grossed out many sextual partners.... UGH all I needed was some anti-dandruff shampoo.

I’ve had quite a few acne looking pustules on my face and it wasn’t going away after using my normal benzoyl peroxide treatment. That’s when I realized that the pustules may not be acne after all because benzoyl peroxide usually works really well for my random breakouts. After watching this video I have tried the Nizoral on my face as a treatment since I already use it for my dandruff and the size of the pustules went down TREMENDOUSLY!!! Thank you so much for your videos you are helping many people who can’t afford to see a dermatologist in person. Thanks again!!!!

missmiiichelle thanks for sharing! I’m in the same situation as we speak, and I saw a dermatologist, who suggested I use Nizoral Shampoo 2%. But I currently use benzoyl peroxide that is supposed to be working, but it hasn’t. I have it on my face, my scalp, behind my ears, and my back. Gonna try to take that, and take some acidophilus probiotics. I wonder if Dr Gray thinks this will help my pityrosporum folliculitis?

Enjoyed and informative as always! Ironically I saw my dermatologist yesterday 03/15/18 for a huge flare on my chin. My skin was previously clear and no changes in my routine. I went to sleep that Sunday with clear skin and woke to what looked like a poison ivy rash that I poured gasoline on. I told my derm this entire story and asked to have it checked under a microscope for yeast, he blew me off abruptly every time I asked. Said it was acne and the reason I woke up with a million itchy, burning bumps was due to stress. Yeah, right. Gave me a cortisone shot in two lesions, a script for clindamycin and might as well have thrown me out the door. So I had to laugh when you talked about never looking stupid for asking questions. I was waiting for him to take his MD certificate off the wall and shove it in my face , So I bought my own anti fungal cream and what a difference in one night. Ugh!

I used head and shoulders and it works. I use it ever other day because it can be drying and irritate your skin. I saw a difference in my skin in one day. Wet your face and leave it on up to five minutes and rinse. I use Cerve moisturizer because it's moisturing without parabens or oils. I loved seeing the bumps and scales from the fungal folliculitis flake off. I never dealt with this condition until I moved to a climate that is hot and humid all summer long. My doctor didn't have a clue what it was he gave me lotions that just irritated my skin. I started reading online and figured it out myself. (PS: warm compresses lightly soaked in acv help, this sounds weird but Tinactin cream for athlete's foot helped clear my fungal folliculitis on my facial cheeks and it actually moisturized my skin too. It does smell a bit initially but doesn't last). Hope this helps. Using aloe vera can help your skin heal so I buy aloe vera juice at my cvs pharmacy and refrigerate it. I put some cold aloe vera juice on a cotton pad and wipe it all over my face. It feels so good and your skin will be so soft after it has dryed. Sorry this is so long. I'm so happy to have my nice skin back and I hope you will feel good and look good too.

I just got over a 3 month nightmare with this condition brought on from long term antibiotics for adult acne. Started on my forehead and went down the sides of my face onto my neck. Finally had to take prescription cream and then Diflucan (last resort). Never want to go through that again. See your doc if it gets out of hand or you will regret it and make sure to take a probiotic while on long term antibiotics. The Diflucan can be rough on the stomach but I had to only take it for 1 Week. I also used 2% Zinc soap and shampoo from Vanicream brand.

Fungal acne can look exactly like bacterial acne in some individuals (probably if they don't have much, but are highly sensitive to it so it gets inflamed). Mine was misdiagnosed for many years by many different dermatologists. The clues were that it was focused on my forehead/nose/neck/back. Benzoyl peroxide does nothing, and anti-dandruff shampoos significantly help (including my cysts) but do not get rid of it completely unfortunately.

@amyzimmerman3533

I have been going to different dermatologists over the years (45 years) and they frequently discount my concerns about issues. I had to insist that a black spot ( he said it was nothing and it did not need to be removed -on my breast). He called me in two days and asked me to return ASAP for a wide excision. I have what I thought was KP on my face and he told me it doesn't occur on the face so I watched every video I could find where you addressed KP. I started using Cerave SA facial wash and it improved..My derm had said it wasn't anything to address and to come back if it continued to bother me. I still fight it every day (it is much better) and now am going to try to treat it like a fungus --just happened to see this video today-and see if I can get completely clear. I have had so many problems with dermatologists in Knoxville. I had not had a negative experience until my daughter was born-30 years ago. (I had being seeing dermatologists for acne since my teens.) I had inflammation on my eyelids. Very similar to Eczema which I have had all my life. He wanted me to see a therapist as he felt it was psychological. I went back to work and one of the anesthesiologist told me it was from using baby wipes and then touching my eyes. Treated it like it was Eczema and it went away. I go at least every 6 months for a full body check. Mother died from melanoma. I don't want black spots and my current MD has to deal with my assertiveness. I am beginning to think of changing to yet another dermatologist. I get more help from your videos and my own education than I do from the current Dermatologist. Thanks for all of the info you give! FYI-Eucrisa really burns on my skin-going back to Elidel

I have isolated scalp itches (no dandruff at all), and the only thing that literally stops the itch instantly is a selenium sulphide shampoo. I also have tiny, tiny uniform spots on my forehead. Watching this video makes me think that the two issues are linked, and I'm now keen to see how a zinc pyrithione shampoo does on the forehead bumps. Never thought of that before. Thanks for the informative video.

Dandruff shampoo as facial cleanser?
@myolis617
@myolis617 5 лет назад
Gina Bonds I do the same! I read a really in depth article on it. The trick she mentioned is to leave the dandruff shampoo on your face for a little. I use Head&Shoulders, let it sit for a minute. Rinse off and re-wash my face with my Vaniclear Gentle Cleanser(also recommended from the article). After I use Squalane oil(same article), and some Rosehip oil for dry patches since the shampoo is a little harsh on my skin. But like the above comment, I have to keep on with the dandruff shampoo to keep it away 🙄

I live in the desert which means it's hot as hell but for some reason my room is always 80-85 degrees which makes me sweat every night so I shower in the morning. I have an extremely bumpy red splotchy face, back, and chest. No acne treatment has done anything but make it worse with more redness, texture, and irritation. @CLB134
@CLB134 5 лет назад
Quick tip! You shouldn’t use it daily, it is extremely drying and damaging to your moisture barrier which can make fungal acne worse. You should use it 2-3 times a week, for no longer than 5 minutes each time. Then once it’s cleared (usually takes about 4 weeks), use it once a week to keep your skin clear & the fungal acne away! :)

Yay Dr. Dray-I’ve been waiting so patiently for you to cover this topic! I picked up malassezia folliculitis (i.e. pure evil) from my sister about a year ago, didn’t realize what it was for several months, and I made it so much worse in that period of time trying to treat it thinking it was regular acne (though it did look and behave differently, and presented in areas I didn’t normally breakout, so I should have known). When I figured it out, I went to the derm, but she sadly wasn’t much help. She prescribed a couple doses of an oral antifungal, and told me topical treatments weren’t going to help. The oral treatment didn’t seem to do much (I think it was way too low of a dose) so I picked up nizoral and lotrimin after doing some research on my own, and knocked it back significantly. I called the derm a couple weeks later to get her advice on continuing treatment, because it was still hanging on, and she suggested an antibiotic 🤦🏻‍♀️ needless to say-I never went back to her. Fast forward 5 months, and I’m still trying to rid myself of this thing, but I think I’m close. It’s such a bummer-I thought after accutane a few years ago that I was in the clear with bad skin. I wish there was more research around treating this condition, but one site that has been a great source of information is simpleskincarescience.com-it has a huge complication of research, ingredients and products that are malassezia safe, and anecdotal reviews/suggestions from others dealing with folliculitis. Thanks for sharing your professional advice, any little bit helps. 🙏🏻😬

Try and get him the Nizoral 1% (it's OTC in the US). It is stronger than H&S and works a bit better. I have SD too and use Nizoral 2% on prescription from my dermatologist. Often the H&S isn't enough and doesn't work. Read the instructions on the bottle though because you have to leave Nizoral in for 5 to 10 min. (that is what my leaflet says and I'm from Belgium) after you have sudsed it up. Then after massage it in some more, wash and rinse.

I have bad dandruff, or SD, aka seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp skin. It was diagnosed by my dermatologist in my 20s. I keep my scalp squeaky by using harsh sulfates in between bouts; it saves me so much from having to bust out the medicated shampoo (Nizoral 2% = ketoconazole). I don't use any oils on the scalp or even conditioner (!) as it is too moist or oily for the scalp. I'm 45 so I've learned my way around it quite a bit these past decades. I hadn't had to use the medicated shampoo for ages, years, and then last year it came back suddenly on both temples (flakes are always first, then if I leave it too long, itching, then redness). Just one wash (leaving it on for 10 min.) immediately followed by a H&S wash cleared it up in one go. You do learn to live with it after a while and when I see those first signs, I jump. :) Thank you for such an informative video!

Person who struggled with fungal acne here...it sounds very much like fungal acne. I had it in the exact same places (around my mouth, cheeks, and forehead) and they were flesh-colored little bumps that white stringy stuff came out of- sometimes they would turn into giant inflamed under-the-skin cysts if I popped them. Basically, they came out of nowhere one night, starting around my mouth then gradually spreading. Sometimes they itch, but rarely in my case. If yours itch, I would definitely think it’s fungal. But sometimes they don’t itch on certain people (like myself) even though it is still fungal acne. I’ve done a lot of research on FA and how to treat it, and I finally got rid of it. if you’re still suffering from fungal acne, I can give you some tips/info & point you in the right direction for treating it :)
