Have you heard of CoverFX? It's gotten quite popular and is available in Sephora (at least here in Canada it is). It was developed by a derm in Toronto for people recovering from skin conditions. I don't know too much about Perricone MD as a brand, but they have a foundation "serum" that is supposed to be less irritating to the skin than other cosmetics, and further claims some sort of skin benefits. I'm not an MD . Hope this helps

I believe it relates to the type of skin you have, the drier parts struggle more with PIE, in my case, acne on cheeks leaves red/purple spots for months, and my forehead is fine
@luciasanchez1474
@luciasanchez1474 4 года назад
That's because the forehead is usually more oily so the barrier of the skin is in better condition than the checks that tends to be more dry. Moisturizers are key in these type of marks.

EVERY breakout I have becomes a red scar no matter what I do. I don’t pick at my skin because like you said, it never ends well and I’m a nazi when it comes to sun protection because I don’t want my face to suffer. It wasn’t until a few months ago that I learned that I suffer from PIE. It’s incredibly frustrating and it’s honestly worse to deal with than the breakouts themselves cuz the spots don’t go away:(. My skin looks much worse than it actually is. Also, is there a reason why some breakouts last so long in the skin? I use a salicylic face wash and a spot treatment to treat my breakouts, but they last a very long before actually reducing in size and redness and going away. I have had many breakouts that do not go away for months on end and just become a hard bump.

I also wonder if you have some nummular dermatitis? I have that and PIE and it's aggravating... I finally got a steroid cream and it is helping. I like using hydrocolloid bandages to help speed healing for any wounds, it's been a game changer.

Sarah Stroud exactly! Im super pale, naturally blond and feel like when I talk about having breakouts and acne scars its mostly just this that is residually around after the actual comedones are gone. My non pale friends don't seem to get that because my skin is so, so light even when I'm not actively breaking out I still ALWAYS have stupid redness and "scarring" that is so noticeable because my skin is so white that any redness is magnified!! I do love my paleness and wouldnt have it any other way but It's nice to be able to put a name to what is happening on my skin!
@MrsDogLover
@MrsDogLover 6 лет назад
I've been to many dermatologists and they always suggest medication and tell me to not pick my skin.. I don't pick and haven't in years, they just pigment on their own, everything from a pimple to bug bite to a scratch 😣. I'm working on fading all of them now. Very frustrating.

I thought the little segment you did on "home remedies" was very interesting, I am always seeing various diy "tips" online and never sure if it's actually safe or useful. Any thoughts on honey, activated charcoal, coconut oil, & rose water on the face? These are some ingredients I see commonly mentioned online.
@DrDrayzday
@DrDrayzday 6 лет назад
just stop with all the diy skin care and "all natural" gimmicks online...there is no evidence for this stuff and it is largely problematic
@alexandrastegerean9475
@alexandrastegerean9475 6 лет назад
Coconut oil is highly comedogenic. As for the other ones, it depends on what kind you're using, if they are 'pure' so to say (e.g. 100% rose water without any other ingredients) but you shouldn't expect to see actual results with home remedies.

Why is it better to go to a cosmetician for extracting blackheads and pimples? How don't they wound the skin? I am genuinely wondering because I planned on making an appointment.
@Mammmma99
@Mammmma99 3 года назад
They use a lamp, have good light so they can really zoom in your skin for correct extraction. Its really just hard to do it on yourself, because usually you just end making it red and irritated=inflammation. They also ”prepare” the skin before extraction and also use products after extraction for soothing or whatever your skin needs.

One of my biggest regrets was ditching benzoyl peroxide once I got clear. I had acne when I was 13, was completely clear at 15 thanks to benzoyl peroxide, got obsessed with anti-aging and "starting early", acne came back severely when I was 18. Benzoyl peroxide then cleared me, again, but this time I'm left with PIEs. Not only PIEs but rolling scars, boxcar, icepick scars, all of the scars. I'm 20 and clear now and some of the goddamn PIEs are still there. I just have to say PIEs are freaking hard to get rid of!

Hi Dr Dray, I have PIE marks and I am currently doing once a week peel with TO peeling solution(followed up with Niacinamide Serum & FAB Ultra Repair Cream afterwards). The reason i do this peel is because I heard AHA stimulates collagen growth which is gonna help with my scars I suppose? I once stopped the peel for a month because I thought it made my skin 'worse' but then I'd come to a conclusion that it was just initial purging because when I stopped for a month, I used many calming products like Cica & Green Tea but the red marks are still there. So I don't think the peel has made my PIE worse. Now that I continue the peel again, it feels just fine to my skin. What do you think Dr Dray? Shall I stop the peel or shall I continue? Thank you

6 years after Accutane, still waiting for my PIE to go away. I set my progress back a few times getting too cocky trying new products, thinking my skin was now perfect and invincible. 2 things inflamed my face like nothing else, making every red mark I've ever had come roaring back from the deepest layers (ones I thought were long healed)- coconut oil and b12 shots. Both disasters took a month to calm down after stopping the cause and two more to get my skin to where it was prior to those irritants. Thank you for all the knowledge! Makes me feel like there's hope 😊

Hey Dr Dray! I had really bad cystic acne and was taking accutane for 2 years. It’s been 3 years since & I still have lumps under my skin which feels like dormant cystic acne. Is that was it is, or is it something like scar tissue? How would you treat this, does it need laser treatments...

Well I’m not blonde or a redhead but I’m hella pale and my PIE is a huge part of my, not insecurity but discomfort regarding my skin. I really dislike when doctors tell me “oh but you aren’t a blonde/ redhead so you’ll be fine soon” I’m like duudeee can’t you see my pale af skin? Can’t you see my veins through it? I’m pale, I need help! They won’t prescribe anything so I must figure out what to use to fade them. That’s why I’m here and I’m so THANKFUL because you share information with us, unlike all of the dermatologists I’ve seen who seem to wanna keep the mystery and knowledge to themselves 😔

Andrea, I enjoy your videos and would like to say thank you 😊 I am also worried by the amount of nonsense content from those calling themselves ‘experts’. Dr.Dray you should go to dollar tree to see what ingredients are in their face wash they have a lot of products that try to compare with Neutrogena. They have acne treatment products with salyic acid. They as have knock offs of cetaphil. It would be nice to hear your thoughts on those.

Thank you, Dr. Dray, you've helped me with my skin a lot since I started following your channel. Even now, with all the red marks I got from my acne. As you often recommend Cerave PM, I got it and have been using it for a couple of weeks now and already see some smaller marks fading away. Another product I decided to try was the Eucerin Acute lip balm (it has licorice) as I had a big red mark right under my lower lip that looked awful and after about a week of daily use it's already half gone. I totally found it by chance though, so I would be really happy if in the future you decide to do a detailed review of the European brands (Eucerin, La Roche Posay, Bioderma). :)

I love that this is in depth and scientific. So many of these acne videos are superficial things that are done by people promoting a product or that use "natural remedies" to cure their skin in a week. Thoroughly impressed

Hey dr dray I’ve had cystic acne before on my cheeks and they are gone now but now I have PIEI use a Clarisonic with a prescribed face wash and the Clarisonic doesn’t seem to irritate my face , I also put vitamin e oil (the capsul) and rub it on my face and keep it all night it seems it lightens it up but not completely I was wondering if skin lightening creams with Ingredients such as retinoids , vitamin a , e , lactic acid , chamomile , Shea butter and Dead Sea minerals in the cream will help out my PIE please answer also some of my PIE turned to PIH so that lightening cream is for PIH will it help pie too ?

Ugh I have this and have had it for years, I wear makeup everyday to cover the scarring its so embarrassing. I have followed your tips on moisturizing with face still wet and did see an improvement in the color, faded to a medium pink from bright red! I had bad acne in 2015, but It forever ruined my cheek area as there is deep indents from the scars. My plan is to figure out what causes my breakouts, try to get rid of the PIE as much as I can and then see a dermatologist for a treatment (Dye Laser or Microneedling).

I have acne along my jawline and around the sides of my chin and they don't seem to come to a head. I have one acne that healed without coming to a head and left a bump and dark spot. I also have others that heals but always get inflamed over and over. And worst, I developed lots of tiny bumps on my lower face. What can you say about this? I have been suffering from them for almost a year and it has been bothering me so much :(

I think this is what I have on my chin. I got impetigo on my chin about 10 years ago, and it left a pink patch that has faded a lot but is still there. If it's there after 10 years, is it permanent? I use retinal and niacinamide, and sometimes lactic acid if my skin can tolerate it. It hasn't changed the remaining pinkness. I've got Fitzpatrick 1 skin and red hair/blue eyes.

I have red marks on my face from acne, majority is flat and I use the ordinary chemical peel cuz ppl say it removes the top layer of your skin bringing new skin so I've been using it twice a week but you just said not to use peels. Should I stop then? I mean when I'm using it I dont think it causes me to breakout.

Increases in temperature and emotion, as well as UV absorption all make these red marks appear redder. The fresher the scar, the more red it gets, though even older scars +2 years, can show when you're flushed.
