Too much risk of upsetting the PC brigade apart from anything. The "gender-reversed" Dot and Jim we used to see on Alistair McGowan would now be too "offensive", as would McGowan himself playing Lynne in the cafe. No possible impression of any non-white character would escape criticism. Only "woke comedy" is now allowed, and that's not comedy at all. Joyless scolds, who are often mentally ill and just want to inflict their misery onto others while claiming that they're "standing up for people", are unquestionably ruining our culture. Even in the few years since the comment I'm replying to, it's got immeasurably worse. And it's not being done for the benefit of anyone except the powerful.

They disappeared because they were funny programs. The lefties who now infest the BBC like a disease don't like funny programs, only their idea of funny.
