If folks are this worried about how much ribeye costs, then maybe they should make their meals at home. Costco and Sam’s Club both sell ribeye for a fairly reasonable price in comparison. If you eat out, and someone else prepares your food and a waiter serves you that food, you’re going to pay additional for those services. Deal with it or don’t eat out.

I actually have pretty great steak at home once in a while. Funny enough... Ribeye isn't even close to my favorite... My favorite would be Flank and Filet Mignon.

Happened to another bartender I worked with, customer comes into the very fancy 5* Whisky bar, points at a Whisky on the shelf and asks for a glass of it, bartender pours it, guest drinks it then complains loudly to management that the bartender is now forcing him to pay £300 and that the bartender should have informed him the price..

Despise people that do that. They want to look like a big shot when they are not. I prefer the old school, quiet elegance clients but we can't always get what we hope for.

As a Bartender/Waitress, I ALWAYS mention the cost of an upgrade/modification, or if something is inordinately expensive… It saves the argument when the check is dropped, and any embarrassment for the customer… There are always casual ways to be either direct, or hint around it… If a guest scoffs & says they aren’t worried about the price, I just tell them management requires that I tell them (which is typically the case)…

But then the customer gets insulted and indignant when you tell him/her the price bc he/she thinks you think they can't afford the drink. "Damn if you do and damn if you don't" lol.😊

If a glas of a drink costs £300 and the bartender doesn't inform the customer it's his fault when there are probles afterwards. This was totally espectable and you still let it happen. You know that nobody would ever expect it to cost that much. If you stil serve him without any warning it's an active try to deceive. It's clear that it wasn't his intention to get financially ruined by a drink or at least you couldn't know beforehand if he was willing or even able to pay that. So if he refuses to pay it's you who didn't prevent the incidence and either you or your bar comes up for the damage or you're not the right person for the job.
