my led kit turns on the moment batteries are in even if the switch if off. is that normal? also I feel like the thickness now makes it harder for my start and select buttons to hit, is that just me?
Technically this is that hardware. That feature just isn't supported in the software. Could be that all the LEDs are wired in parallel so it's not possible to address them individually but that could be extremely tedious to set with the limited controls. Doesn't seem like too difficult a project though. Similar design to this and just daisy chain the LEDs with patterns already encoded into the MCU to choose from. Perhaps we'll see more features in future iterations since feature creep seems to hit every other mod in the scene.
Totally bling! I'll be honest though I find bright LEDs and these illuminated buttons to be distracting when playing in low light. I have custom GBA and GBC and I usually cover the overly bright power LED. Good to see the kit comes with brightness control
Awesome and informative as always! Curious if the button sequence to change the brightness and color on the LED board interfere with the logo control on the Laminated Display ?
Do these kits stop the speakers from working? I installed one on a GBA SP and i just did one on my GBC and both the speakers dont work anymore or am i just missing a super simple solution/fix
The newer kit iterations support brightness controls for the LEDs. Make sure you don't have it turned down. This is not a "light up your room in the middle of the night" type kit though.
i have D soldered to the battery terminal and inside my GBC since back when funnyplaying released this kit and my GBC and button leds works, i have the older version without brightness controls tho.
Hey, was wondering if there is any way to detect low battery with this mod using normal batterys. in other words, does the one you put together in this video detect low battery without soldering the number 9 battery detect
I followed your guide and the offical guide. But games won't boot when I have this led board installed. If I desolder it then games will boot again. I tried 3 times. Any ideas what is wrong?
@@travissnider5321 i did end up fixing it. And it turns out that the "optional" solder points are not optional. If I remember correctly. It's been a while since I did this.
@@dakotalee24 I did all 7 and got no led and game would not boot . I went over it a few times thinking maybe I didn't get enough penetration if solder but no luck .
Not sure if I missed it in the video, but is there a way to save the settings? I am currently in changing the brightness mode because I'm not sure how to save it
What temperature do you suggest setting your iron to for soldering pads on these ribbons? I've tried to be careful when soldering them before and still just fried the shit out of it and took the pad off, which tells me I'm running my iron way too hot for the ribbon.
@@ERROR-pn5qw that's far too cold for most of the electronics I work with, so I'll try turning down to that next time I solder a ribbon connection and see if that solves my issue.
I did this one and don't like how fast the buttons change settings. It's really cool to have the light up buttons but dang I wish they wouldn't change while I'm playing!
@@makho I had it set to solid pink but when I play games like Super Mario Deluxe I press the A&B button at the same time a lot toggling it to off or to the setting where it changes colors automatically. Unless there's away to disable it from changing by pressing a & b together?
Nice Vid Tickle-me-Makho. I wish this was posted last week I had to go back and forth with FP on the battery terminal to figure out the design intent. Heres hoping they make a fool proof usbc charging li ion kit that supports play and charge

@@makho well that SUCKS. If I knew you had a site and were selling things, Id be all over it. I buy my kits usually direct from FP with the exception of my dmg which was from HHL….sorry bro. I just got into modding gameboys in the last 2 years.
