The entirety of this shoot was plagued by non stop rains - in the desert. Including a flash flood that destroyed all the trucks. This combined with COVID 19 protocols crated a situation where they had to do a lot of shots on set instead of outdoors. They had a choice, wait until 2025 to re-shoot everything to release it, or just make the movie. The WB was in no financial position to wait. Personally, I think it will still be great.

I think it looks just like Fury Road. Fury Road also had a lot of CGI but it was mixed so well with practical effects. The scene when the cars are driving through those tornadoes at the beginning of Fury Road is a perfect example.

George Miller only uses practical effects. That’s what got him the Oscar for Fury Road. They had several filming locations, so it might look CGI, but about 95% is practical, Dustin.

You guys gotta rewatch Fury Road, it has the same stylised CGI as Furiosa. George Miller is definitely not afraid to make his visuals dreamlike.
@TheMovieCouple
@TheMovieCouple 9 месяцев назад
It has the same style yes, but there's something about this trailer that makes it look different... like maybe the color was oversaturated? Also CGI in Fury Road looks and blends much better than it did in this trailer. Regardless, we're excited for this one and it's gonna be epic
@thepato8197
@thepato8197 9 месяцев назад
@@TheMovieCouple I would say both films are over saturated. George Miller has clearly developed a preference for having stylised CGI, sort of like Speed Racer. I just find it interesting that he’s doing something outside the norm.
@houstonhughes184
@houstonhughes184 9 месяцев назад
The CGI in Mad Max is mostly invisible, and feels organic. This does not look anywhere near as cinematic and seamless. The last shot of the trailer is the worst. Between the look and some of the framing it feels like a lot of it was shot in the Volume (or one of the knock offs).
@thepato8197
@thepato8197 9 месяцев назад
@@houstonhughes184 I would argue that Fury Road also doesn’t look as seamless, though that’s the point. The VFX call attention to themselves, expose the artifice. George Miller explored this further in Three Thousand Years of Longing. Lana Wachowski did a great interview about attempting something similar with Speed Racer.

Nobody is ever going to be allowed to make a movie the way that George Miller made Fury Road ever again. He basically kidnapped an entire cast and crew and took them out into the middle of the Namibian desert and sent back incoherent footage to WB as proof of life. Everybody involved hated the process the entire time. They were ALWAYS going to have to rely more on CGI if they were going to make more of these in the future and Miller even said as much years ago. But as for the saturation it looks exactly like Fury Road did.

I guess it's good that it worked for you, but compare the trailer for the 2015 movie and this one.... In the trailer, the scenes should either be almost done, or the ones that are supposed to entice and represent the movie the most... How so that probably represents... Who knows what the rest of the film that they didn't show will look like, in addition, you can read in the comments above that they had a problem on the set due to the Covid disease and the floods in Australia.. So perhaps most of the shots were shot in the studio and that's it to see... In addition, at a time when VFX artists are exhausted, it is even more visible in this project that they are not keeping up.... I will hope that the film in the cinema will be as great as the one from 2015, but we must not lie to ourselves that already this one looks visually worse.@@AngelPhoenixR83

Fury Road mixed practical effects with CGI. I see really little difference in terms of aesthetics. People really need to rewatch Fury Road, there are so many scenes where they used CGI to enhance or add to the practical effects.

Hey guys you got to remember that the movie is in its pre-production stage so releasing this trailer is just little taste of what we going to experience. All the CGI and the effects probably not even done yet because they have to touch on some few things. Give George Miller time for his perfection he always make his movies look phenomenal.... In my opinion I think some of the scenes were shot on green screen because George probably doesn't want these actors to work in harsh environments again.

My hope is that the studio pushed a trailer out before it was ready and the effects look more CGI, sort of like how people often complain about the “CGI” effects in Alien3 but it’s not actually they’re complaining about, but bad/poorly rendered compositing that is difficult to make look good when the studios push out a rerelease on a new format. So I am hoping that’s what we are seeing here, effects that are not quite ready but the studio felt they needed a teaser out asap. I desperately hope it is not an The Thing (2011) situation where the studio pushes CGI on the filmmakers. When I hear about the Fury Road working conditions, I’m kinda just like, “sooo, they made a Mad Max film, what?” 😂 Ya know? I have to assume it’s because of the scale of Fury Road, which dwarfed the original trilogy and incorporated more Hollywood than in previous films, that make it something that keeps getting brought up. Personally, I’m on the fence mostly because George Miller’s stories are always trying to remind us about climate change and our relationship with the world, and I didn’t really feel that in this trailer. I trust him though, and expect it will be an important through-line-via the world building & hopefully in the narrative, (perhaps we see as the Green Place becomes the place with the crows.) 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am excited but not as excited as I want to be.

Fury Road actually did have a lot of CGi as well, as the sky was mostly fake in Fury Road.. George Miller changes his world's dramatically in these films. Joseph Campbell's' A Hero with a Thousand Faces ' was a major influence in the Max series. The world is gonna look dramatically different in this film, explaining the entire Max back story timeline saga... Story wise, Furiosa is gonna be different with the world building from Fury Road. This film has more of a story and dialog , rather than just a big chase and action like Fury. Road This film will definitely not be MEDIOCRE! 🎬👍

This is such a weird negative reaction. Budget drop? it's more than last time. You don't realise that what you think is CGI is usually practical... like that fire is often real pyro but filmed in a different/or sped up way.. it's not always cgi. This was also filmed in Aus and the landscapes are amazing with the colours.

God the CGI comments are quite annoying considering the fact that Fury Road was a nightmare to film and everyone on set being miserable (there is a whole book about it.). So if a bit of CGI here and there is needed to relieve that pressure on the film-makers, so be it.

Honestly I just stopped judging effects from trailers. The imagery is too quick and lacking too much context. I can appreciate the effort of practical effects but it just needs to feel real in the moment. It's not worth the effort for me to pick out visual fact from fiction anymore because the tech is too good and even the practical stuff gets heavily post-processed. That said the trailer was fine and Anya looks great but it did look way too tame for a Mad Max adjacent film. It needed a hard R & redband trailer to announce this.

The car in the sands looks CGI ? Man, if CGI could simulates the sand that well, it'd deserve an Oscar. They might added some sand with computer but there's real sand in that scene. Just like when they blow Max car in Fury Road ; they added flames and darker smoke but there was real dust and smoke around the car. I feel its more the frame is brighter but it reminds me a lot that vibe from Fury Road where Max is telling Furiosa to go back ; that same feeling that actors are "cut off" the background. Rest of Fury Road was probably darker or dustier so you couldn't tell what was CGI for sure. Those scenes look pretty clearer and brighter. The only weird shot, imo, in this trailer is the last one where you can tell her hair are fake. Also we don't have any date yet so it might be fixed by the time the movie got released.

I kind of see what you guys are talking about. While I do like the look of Furiosa, it is a bit cleaner than Fury Road. This one looks a bit like "intentional graphic novel" in places. Not quite "Sin City," but reminiscent of it. I wonder if the explanation for the visual difference is as simple as they changed cinematographers. (A glance at Google indicates that the "Fury Road" cinematographer turned down "Furiosa.")

Even if Charlize Theron wanted to, she could not have come back, because of an age issue, since it is a prequel and it is a story several years before Fury Road, she had to be a very young Furiosa in her 20s, Charlize is already close to 50 years old, unless she had been rejuvenated but it would have been very laborious and costly so much CGI on her throughout the film,, anyway Anya Taylor-Joy will do very well, she is a very good actress.

That's the big risk of "negative" takes on reactions - an audience doesn't generally seek out reactions to things they didn't like, unless it's epicly bad in a viral sense - so almost every viewer of your reaction video will be a fan of the video seeking more people to share the hype. I will say at least the comments on this channel stayed respectful - I don't want to name the other channels but the "bro culture" is offensively visible there so I'm happy the viewers here are still open minded.
