Thanks for the always great tutorial. I have a Brother Scan and Cut. If you don't have one...get one. I scanned the pattern into it...then loaded the mat with fusible web. Put in the marker for drawing and let the machine draw it perfectly onto the paper side of the web. No more tracing! And, it can cut it out, too once the fabric is bonded to the heat and bond.

Nice! I know I've been so tempted to get a cutting machine like that. You really like it?

Years ago I bought a silhouette, love it, but needs to be hooked up to my computer upstairs. But the Scan and cut is down in my studio...use it every day. I like the fact one can draw or stamp and it cuts it out perfectly. Works awesome for cutting fabric. The mat is less sticky, so I keep a roll of painters tape next to it. But for saving time...I can have it draw my patterns directly onto freezer paper or fusible while I iron.

Hi Leah, I have some 1/4 yard cuts that I need to wash. I haven’t washed anything that small yet and I’m scared I will lose some inches in the washing process. I should have just bought more yardage, but I got like 10 different colors and was trying to save money. I’m planning on making prairie points for the first time so I don’t necessarily have exact amounts that I need from each fabric yet. My question is do you think if I washed them in a mesh laundry bag it would help with my edges getting warped or do you think it will be ok to just throw them in the wash like I usually do.

When I wash fabric, I use a 1/8 in straight stitch all around the fabric at a 4.0 stitch length and it keeps the fabric from fraying. After washing just cut the 1/8 in off as you will have to straight cut the fabric you won't be losing much.

I’ve seen precuts washed gently and spun in..... a salad spinner! Try that. It was on the site Sew Very Easy. Good tip for small cuts you want to prewash. Lay flat to dry. Hope this helps

Hi. Why do you use a dry iron on steam a seam? Isn’t the name implying that steam is needed to set the seam? I really enjoy watching you play with fabric and thread. Thank you for helping us. I am a fan.

I rarely (almost never) use steam so it's just not the way I use this product. So far I haven't found that to be a problem. If you like having water in your iron, then of course, use steam!

Thank you for showing that the fusible doesn’t always want to peal off correctly. It can be very frustrating 😡

Yeah, sometimes it's just a bit fiddly. That was the only piece to totally bomb it though. It might have something to do with the age of the fusible web. All of these shapes were out of the package for months and I think it dried out a bit.
