Just reading the comments I can see many have praised your work, and let me join the choir. You are one of the best, if not the best, teachers I have ever had. It feels as if you're really there in front of me, and not in the internet a year and a half ago. I can really feel the passion and interest you place in even the most trivial and rudimentary exercises.Keep up the amazing work, and I know I speak for many when I say thank you!
Hi Lars. You have to convince them to continue the streams for folks like me. I'm a hobbyist so I don't have years of training in CAD/CAM nor a tutor. Fusion is so feature rich, it would literally take years to get where you've got me in a few months. Thanks to you for doing this and to AutoCAD for providing such an amazing program.
Hi Lars Thank you very much for this excellent video on sculpting. Until I watched your videos, I had no idea on how to use sculpting inside fusion 360 to do carving. Now that I got the basic idea on how to draw carved pieces using fusion 360, I am ready to experiment and start drawing/sculpting real carved pieces from pictures on old museum furniture pieces. My ultimate goal is to be able to reproduce old carved furniture pieces using fusion to sculpt and generate final CNC code using fusion CAM. Thanks again and look forward to more videos on sculpting and fusion 360 CAM. Ali
I didn't notice if you had done so, but for me to select only the visible portion of the sphere from above, I had to go Select > Selection Filters and uncheck Select Through. Otherwise, I appreciate this video. I'm working on an irregular shape, which is somewhat difficult to find in Fusion. The majority of models have some kind of flat plane, from which it could be obvious to work. A flat bottom boat video , has a flat bottom and the top is basically flat, so it's hard to deal with the differences of an irregular shape. But this got me closer to what I'm trying to achieve. Also a tip, I signed up for GrabCab, and downloading models from there gave me some insight into how some things might be done, and I saw a motorcycle helmet with a visor, which I was able to assign clear polycarbonate and that made me so confident I can do what I want in F360! The future is coming on....
Yeah, I have been working with modeling for the entire time when using fusion 360 so I have no idea how to sculpt this video was great for beginners like me!
Thank you for your effort... I am totally new to Fusion with only a few hours of user experience... but even for a not Englisch native speaker your videos are very helpful and well structured. Thx from Germany
Very good. I am trying to model a car fender so I can sculpt a customized version, cut a CNC copy in foam and then fiberglass over the foam. These livestreams are the best explanations yet of the mysteries of Fusion 360 for that type of task.
Thanks for making this Lars, your videos are my favourite resource on RU-vid for learning fusion360. Just one suggestion - it would've been better for me (as an intermediate user who has used modelling quite a bit but know zero sculpting) to go quickly through the beginning of the video (the first 10 minutes where you put the canvasses of the spoon in could've been done in 2 minutes) and then add more content to the end of the video (where you do the actual sculpting). For example, how would you re-establish symmetry in the handle? And how would I cancel symmetry after making it (for example if I want to delete the green line)?
Hi LMF5000 Thank you for watching! You are totally right. I do get a little long winded from time to time. did you see this one? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JK-uxRdIyjY.html Hope this is useful Best, Lars
I like to think of it as Model = Engineering/Science, Sculpting = Art :) Thanks for the great tutorials both the content and the presentation (always friendly face) is great.
I'm little more than a beginner, definitely still learning; I'm trying to design a 3D printable toy car, as a gift for my car-mad grandson. I've imported a few canvases of cars into a drawing, & sculpted an almost suitable car body shape, but I get a few small 'wrinkles' in the surface, (some convex, some concave, some ripple back & forth. If it were a real world solid object, I'd use a combination of filler & abrasive paper.) In a virtual object in F360, how do I get rid of them? Ideally, I would like the surface to be smooth, is there a simple way to do that? (Or, on some other sculpting projects, put them in & control them - as in a human face - say, the lips, or brow furrows.) Hi spec i9 processor, (8 core,) with heaps pf RAM & 8gb graphics card.
Great tutorial! Learning a lot from your videos. I have a question, sort of related to this. I made my sculpt pretty close to how I want it but I also need to add a flat piece to it. Is there any way to "wrap" it around the sculpt? I know I can do something similar with sheet-metal using text, but not the piece I want.
Hi, Lars! try to use "calibrate canvas" it is very handy p.s use background canvas p.s.s "subdivide faces" -> "exact" in this case you will save the current shape
Hi Michael Denny Thank you for watching! Yes, I cheat. I use a device from 3Dconnexion.com You don't need one, but they are really nice if you are working in CAD for many hours
Hey Lars!! Love the videos!! Just started learning Fusion 360 in the past few months and I wanted to take a JPEG of a outdoor scene with a cliff and create a 3D model I can use on the CNC and I was wondering if sculpting like this would be a good option for that.
I have a question. When do I sculpt and when do I sketch? Can I do a full sketch and create a 3d model then turn that model to sculpt model to reshape so it looks normal and not so geometrically designed?
Hi A C Thank you for watching! You can right-click the feature in the timeline and select edit. It takes you right back into the sculpt environment. Hope this is useful. Best, Lars
Hello, Carl, thank you for uploading another very good tutorial. God bless you. I want to know how do you rotate the view of the object without selecting the orbit or rotate button, are there any keyboard shortcuts. Thank you in advance.
Hi Asad Naeem Thank you for taking the time to watch the videos! I cheat, I use a device from 3DConnexion.com Not needed but makes my life a little easier
Lars - I'm new to all of this and cannot thank you enough for your videos. You are a great instructor. Do you have a video that takes a design through to the proper gcode and to the printer. My printer works well with other designs but I am unable to get my designs to print properly. Any thoughts? Thank you - Stafford Carpenter
Hi SB Carpenter Thank you for watching! Are you using any of the utilities within Fusion when exporting your file, like meshmixer? Check out this videpo: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zx_GaUanrHA.html Hopefully this is helpful
Great work. Very helpful. 15:44. that selection method doesn't seem to work anymore? When i select it from a certain view, it selects the entire model, not just the visible faces.
@@GabeNarwhal try it. It doesn't work. I create a sphere, click top orientation, right click on it to edit form, select using dragging the mouse with left button pressed, and it selects all faces, including the invisible ones on the bottom. Like i said; that selection method doesn't seem to work anymore :) I tried fiddling with the general settings, but couldn't get that to work.
Hey Lars, I'm wondering how to smooth out or blend two sculpted forms together. In particular I've made a sculpted form which is not entirely symmetric, added a bunch of features and cut outs to it, and then decided I liked the right side better than the left side. So I cut the body in half and did a copy on the half I liked. Now I've got two weird problems. I can't seem to make a joint that holds the two surfaces created by the split body so that they are flush/touching for the entire surface of that face. The other problem is I can't machine the part because of some discontinuities in the surface and edges caused by the two halfs of the mirror not lining up perfectly. Is there a way to smooth out or blend two organic looking forms that are joined at a flat face? Or that are intersecting when made into one body?
Hi Dan Bader Thank you for watching! Check out the bridge funciton in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JK-uxRdIyjY.html Best, Lars
Hi Lars, do you know if there's a way to have a sculpt body align with pre placed points? I'm designing a car and the sculpt body must align with certain edges that need to be exactly at a pre designated point, for example the edges of a door. Thanks alot
Thank you so Robert Avery ! Yes, just afraid making these livestreams too long and into series...I don't know...now you make me rethink everything :-) lol
That was one dodgy spoon. Would be nice to see things that come out less random by messing around with features and stick actually to what was planned to be achieved at the beginning. Even by taking much simpler task to fit 30min window but sticking to the goal. Not trying to be critic here but I so many times bump into a wall trying to create something that was supposed to be an easy task at the beginning. Thanks for the video regardless. I've learnt a lot.
At 22:50 you can see the bowl isn't round due to slight overfolding- it looks like it's been pressed in and distorted- the same thing happens to me in my models all the time and I'm desperate to know how to pop those faces back into place without moving the edges- any tips? Much appreciated, thanks
Hi Lars When sculpting, and moving objects, they snap to incremental positions. How can I get rid of the snapping action to I can place items more precisely? cheers Derrick
At the 7:05 mark, your selection for the Rectangle was symmetrical along all 4 quadrants. How do I set this up? Mine keeps the selection in the upper right quadrant.
Hi Brandon Williams Thank you for watching! Open a sketch->Hit the "S" key->Type "Center Rectangle"->Move your mouse over the text and an arrow will appear on the right->Click that and it will be added to your toolbar. Hope this is helpful
Following and checking for errors I thought it was going fine but every time after the 'bridge' I get "T Spline body failed to convert" when I click Finish Form. I have attempted it many times, it's always the same ( I'm getting really good at making the bowl :) ) and I've no idea how to fix this. If I go back to the form I don't know what to do and if I force it to go to Model my spoon (the entire Bodies tab) has disappeared. Can you suggest anything? edited to add: I made a deliberate error in the spoon bowl and when I tried to Finish Form I got the same message but returning to Form I could see where the problem was, it was shown in red. I will try the bridge again and turn off Symmetry before Finishing, maybe then it will show the error. > Well the above didn't tell me anything because the next attempt worked ok without error. Did I just do it right or did turning off symmetry help? I don't know. Got a cool spoon though. Thanks for the tutorials Lars, I really enjoy them :)
Hi Mary Lynch Thank you for watching! In my experience, it happens when edges intersect or fold on them self. Sounds like you are on the right path, thought :-) Good work. Best, Lars
Is there a video of yours about doing these repairs and more information about edges folding on themselves? This is a challenge for sure where adjusting the form is the easy part. Also what about joining forms I think I missed that. Thanks for your videos!
After I made the sphere and entered top view I tired selecting the top half of the sphere. It always selects the entire sphere. I don't know how to select just the bottom half
Hi amit shinde Thank you for watching! Not sure I will ever attempt it after seeing this awesome video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hRwdzwYd5iU.html
Hi Niels Laurits Thank you for watching! TRy to go up to the selection dropdown and check our selection filters. Not sure what else it could be...I need more coffee
