When he saw that the lines weren’t all meeting up, at the flange for when the exhaust gases exit the chambers, I can understand the frustration! I have come across those issues from time to time. I’m just beginning right now and love the software can wait to see what different applications this software will have with any future build. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Awesome like other lectures of yours. It was great that you faced an unexpected issue during the 3D modelling and then thought about it simultaneously and finally solved it by try and error. it was a perfect opportunity for me to learn how a designer can manage their issues. Thanks, Lars. Cheers from Norway.

Thanks Lars, This is just the video I needed right now. I have to model some 1/8 copper lines that bend all over this way and that on a small machine. Great job explaining things and I think we all do feel a little better about it when your models break sometimes...it makes us not feel so bad about it when it happens to us. Not that we want to see you struggle but you always take it pretty well and work through it and that is a valuable skill to be learned as well.

Thank you, thank you Lars! I am very new to Fusion360 (and CAD!) having only really used Tinkercad for a year or two for my basic designing etc (mainly 3d-printing). I tried Fusion360 a while back and was overwhelmed so put it aside. You have made things easy and clear to follow, I feel I am now starting to be understand Fusion 360 and can begine to make my own (basic) designs. I have learnt so so much from your superb videos, I love your friendly relaxed style. once again, superb, thank you and keep it up!

It didnt break when i done it. I dont know if its due to program updates or the way i did the shell step after adding the 4th tube. Instead of holding control to add in the new tube, i hit "X" to delete all the previously selected parts and delete on the 5mm shell. Then i selected everything again plus the new pipe and entered 5mm for the shell thickness. I just got in the habit of deleting all my selected parts if a feature is going to be effected by something i changed further back to change in the time line. I have had strange issues and it seems to have less problems doing it like that

Thanks much again Lars. I didn't realise how limited F360 was with 3D lines until I tried copying an original component (Pipe1) and pasting on the X-axis then trying to adjust the (Pipe2) sketch points in 3D. Wow, was my mind blown - in a not so great way, leaving me to give up! I can imagine the software developers scratching their heads trying to come up with a way to further implement 3D sketching within a 2D constraint-based CAD system and not even think of how it's possible to do this without breaking something!

Thank you!! I've been waiting for this. How can I get the fillet to adjust smoothly in the Z-axis? If two lines are in the same plane, and I adjust either of the lines, the fillet between them will adjust to a smooth tangent. If I have two lines that are not in the same plane, and I adjust either of the lines, the fillet does NOT adjust to a smooth radius, but makes a "kink". Also, how can I measure the length of the sweep/loft path?

Lars,at the 19 to 20 minutes point did you edit the time line? Can you drag a point from in your timeline to the end of the timeline?
@stuartmackay9270
@stuartmackay9270 2 года назад
I believe because you used project geometry for the bracket then offset this was overwritten when you added the last loft, in short the additional face section of the intersection of the fourth pipe was not added as a reference for the offset? As the shell command was later in the timeline as you showed there was only the need to select one end of the fourth pipe, it hollowed out correctly, only leaving the yellow corrupt lines for the offset which didn't include that fourth pipe? Were the four pipes Joined? If so it's interesting how Fusion didn't compensate for the project geometry especially if the fourth pupe was added in the NEW timeline before the offset would NOW have occured ...

Actually you should be able to snap directly to the point that is "out of plane" if 3DSketch is checked before sketching, so you dont need the move/copy thing. On the errors/warnings: They could be a little more detailed. Sometimes its impossible to deduce the origin.

Another great video Lars. I was hoping you could explain the 'got yas' about creating a sketch on a face -vs- on a plane. That has burned me recently and I don't fully understand what that does. I will not do a good job of explaining this but, in my case I couldn't edit an early sketch that I had extruded and the created a sketch off a face sketch.

Hi Jim Miller Thank you for watching! Yes that could be a good follow up livestream. What happen to this one was that everytime I added another tube, the circular edge was updated as it had to change the profile. When trying to create the fillet on the center line of 40mm I was attempting to hit "F" for fillet instead of going through the menus as you did, Lars. It would not let me select the two line to create the 40mm fillet. Is that because "F" is linking to the 3d modeling fillet and not a sketch fillet? Is there a reason for this being different, could I have made the 3d fillet command work somehow?
@imjustacarguy2776

The F key command is a fillet related to 3D modelling and will not work with 2D sketches

For what its worth going past the 30 min mark wouldn't bother me at all... the more info the better. if a sketch isnt fully constrained and stays blue and dosent turn black but looks like it should be how do you go about finding out where you missed a joint?

For creating the "line", for lofting over, why did you use 2 straight lines & a fillet, instead of a bezier curve? It would seem like, (to me, at least), a bezier curve would give much more control, and allow cleaner curves, overall. I'm still very new to CAD designing, (my previous experience is 3d modeling in animation software, like Maya & Modo), so this is all only vaguely familiar. CAD does a lot of things differently, than what I'm used to. While you can do much of the same things, exactly HOW you do it is different. Could you please explain why you chose the methodology you did, instead of bezier curves?
@jakedodd
@jakedodd 6 лет назад
Jeffrey Warren Park also coming from an animation background, I’d hazard that it’s to allow the precision of setting the 50mm rise and 40mm fillet, whereas bezier would perhaps not have that same level of precision.
@jeffreywarrenpark9149
@jeffreywarrenpark9149 6 лет назад
I don't know about that. I think it would still be easy enough to make more that one sketch. One could be used as a reference, while the other, containing the bezier curve, could be used for the lofting. To use straight lines & fillets, just seems to be more effort for the sake of more effort. Say for example, you needed to create a tube with an "S-curve", which technique would require fewer steps to achieve the same results? As far as I understand it, both techniques would still allow you to make precise measurements, if & when needed. I was always taught that you should "work smarter, not harder", and that "time is money". So, if using bezier curves can get you the same results, faster, & with more flexibility for later alterations, wouldn't that be the better way to go? Again, I'm still rather new to CAD, so if I'm out in "left field" in this way of thinking, I appologize. I'm trying my best to learn the CAD way of doing things. And, if I don't ask when I'm not sure about something, then I won't find out the proper way to do it.
@cadcamstuff

Hello, Lars. I just read the postings in the link you just provided. Unfortunately, for me, it just made it more confusing. As I said before, I'm still very much a layman when it comes to CAD. What was discussed in that thread may be very informative to someone with many years of CAD design, but admittedly, it left me baffled. The little I did get from it, is that even amoungst the much more advanced CAD designers, there's a great deal of personal opinion on which is the best way to design something with "curves". So...
