To all 'newbies' learn patience. This program contains many learning curves which need to be practised many times before each lesson sinks in. Lars has been using an old teachers method of continued reiteration of each function he discusses, which, in turn, does sink into the grey matter eventually. All the older lessons from back in 2017 have validity with the latest version. Consider it an exercise to discover the new and changed features for yourselves as well as taking Lars lessons on board. Most frustrations come from not taking regular breaks during study. You can always replay the lessons, or the part of the lesson which confuses yourself. A break every 30 to 40 minutes is a good habit to get into. Personally, after 20 years of SolodWorks, I have found this latest incarnation of Fusion rather refreshing. Lars has achieved a great deal through his lessons and, I trust, will continue into the future. Go easy on yourselves & keep learning. This is one helluva tool !

I've been using the new UI since they opened the preview, so I'm really used to it and I really like it. It does make sense after a while. So while I understand why you won't go back and redo all 500 Fusion 360 videos, I would like to suggest that you consider redoing the 3 "Tutorials for Absolute Beginners". They are so essential! I point all new Fusion users to those 3 videos since they are by far the best out there. And of cause Autodesk should at least pay you for that since they are far better than anything they have made themselves. :-)
@gothmaniow

that would be good if that were to happen as i have been following lars beginners tutorials for a while and now im lost as they have now forced this new ui on us and that is not cool for us beginners .. so if he did rework the first season of the beginners tuts i would not be as pissed as i am right now !

I'm new to Fusion 360 (March 2020). All your old videos are relevant and actually the best resource for a new Fusion user that I have found. Yes, the interface on the old vids is diff from the new one, but not at all insurmountable by any means. I might have had to look up a few things, but only lost a few moments in doing so. Really appreciate what you've done here Lars. Thanks!

As a complete newbie to CAD, I downloaded fusion 360 and started watching your beginner videos from 5 years ago and quickly hit the wall of the UI’s being different. Watched some newer content from other channels and got confirmed in my suspicion. I have the latest version and the tutorial is based on the previous. You style and level of detail is what I need so I went through your content and came to this video and can now go back and forth between the old constant the this update till I get my head around using the SW. PS, I just noticed your Danish flags in the background. I have a few myself, which I’ve been displaying proudly wherever I’ve lived.

Hi Lars, I am a "graduate" of your videos for "absolute beginners." The new interface had almost no effect on me since you taught me how to use keyboard shortcuts. So far, the only time I got confused was to see the "relationships" icons moved from the right side sketch menu to the top menu. Thank you and thumbs up!

My only gripe is the top toolbar icon size (Create, Modify, Assemble, etc). They are too large and consume too much workspace (just as before). I'd like to resize them down to something along the same size as the bottom icons (Display Settings, Grid and Snaps, Viewports, etc.)...

I have been using the new UI since it has been available, and as with any change like this it was frustrating at first, understatement the first couple of days. There are a couple of videos made by Fusion Developers explaining the new UI vs the old UI as well as several channels that have done their own videos on here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zf-fErCl43I.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CXGBZQRDV2s.html . I have been working on getting this channel of mine into a tutorial channel aimed primarily at new users coming from a more artistic background, but I have not had a lot of time lately to make more videos. However if you have requests for videos feel free to message me about them and I will do my best to make a tutorial about them soon. My schedule is getting more free now that I am now longer taking classes a long with work so I am planning to devote more time to tutorial videos.

As a Newbie with Fusion 360 (less than 2 months of heavy use), the OLD UI was easy enough to get around, and with all of Lars's videos, easy to follow as well. But now that the New UI is out, I am finding little trouble adjusting to it. In fact the primary Design section with its 4 sub category tabs, makes sense to me. Will it be a new learning curve, Yes, but can do. As for the feature of the Eyeball versus the Light Bulb. Anyone into photography (Photoshop and or Lightroom) will see the Eyeball. Both concepts make sense, but again is not a Killer Game Changer. Eyeball on (not greyed out), you can see the object. Eyeball Off (greyed out) object not visible. Think of the Eyeball as Off (eyes closed and not able to see objects)

Thanks Lars, I always appreciate your videos. In one of your video's a long time ago (maybe a year?) you mentioned in the settings we could turn on the ability to use the new UI as a way to test it and get use to it. I can't thank you enough, I've been using a version of the new UI for a year now and haven't looked back. The idea that I could ease myself through the transition was very helpful, and I owe it all to you. Thanks for continuing to make the Fusion360 videos even though you've moved positions at AutoCAD, I know I find them incredibly helpful.

The old videos are pretty much still working nowadays. Of course something has updated and doesn't work exactly as described in the videos but the main approach remains the same and the old tutorials can still provide very valuable information to beginners or intermediate users. I knew nothing about Fusion 360 when started watching these series, helped me improve my skills significantly. I really appreciate those videos, thanks for that Lars! One slight advantage might be I was already pretty familiar with Blender but on the other side the parametric modelling approach is usually completely different.

Thank You Lars, I was freaked out for a bit as I could not find Print 3D. Then I found it, thank God. This is a big big help. I was in the middle of finalizing a Beta version and under the gun. When you get time I wanted to ask how to add a bump out feature to the conduit box after it is completed. Sometimes I have to go back ad modify a shape and I end up with a bunch of sketches and cuts that look like hell to get the final shape I need. Then I press out more material on one plane. the cut back in another plane to create the bump out cavity, I loose so much time tweaking, and these parts all take hours to print so my whole day is shot on a few changes I need to make. Adapting, editing changing existing shapes would be a great video. I just learned how to rework holes last week. I used to delete and redraw to get them moved. Thanks for all you do, helping so many. God Bless, Dennis in Virginia, the Train Guy.

As someone who uses multiple Autodesk products, I like the move to a more uniform style, but it feels a little off in some way. It seems as the icons could be a little better. They seem a little washed out to me. I have seen that other people feel the same. Also the little eye is super failure to me because Adobe has been using something similar for years. One thing I am worried about is getting confused as to what program I am using, because I switch between them daily. Inventor LT and Fusion 360 now look a LOT alike.

I like a lot of the changes (edit:by 'like' I mean find functional and generally easier or faster to achieve a modeling task), but HATE THE LOW CONTRAST STUFF!!!! Yellow lightbulb was awesome, 2 versions of a light grey tiny oval shape SUCK!!! its a matter of taking more time and actually straining ones eyes to see the new tree. Really rediculous, articles from 2015 point to the medical data that makes low contrast UI a serious health issue on top of being slower to achieve user feedback and move on with ones task, yet it continues.
@matthewsmith8573
@matthewsmith8573 5 лет назад
Agreed. I've just started using the new UI, and I'm liking most of it so far. However: I don't care whether they look like light bulbs or eyeballs (either way, the symbol is intuitive), but having a color change made it _much_ easier to tell at a glance that I hadn't made everything visible, or hidden everything I needed to hide.
@AlohaMilton
@AlohaMilton 5 лет назад
@@matthewsmith8573 agreed, its not about the icon its about the contrast AND the color value opposing on the color wheel and allowing extremely rapid workflow. Less strain on the optic receptors to identify a different value of photonic energy wavelength. It is science being replaced with trendy minimalist BS and it is extremely worrying for the actual process of design of user interface at Autodesk. I suspect social manipulation is becoming dominant, single voices bullying or whining about emotional stuff rather than good user based design process.
@advil000
@advil000 5 лет назад
Agreed again. First and foremost: Love your chanel Lars! :) --- I think I can get used to the new workspace button and the general workflow changes. But the Icons and the eyeballs... this isn't just me beefing at change. 1) The eyeballs are horrid. I just finished a design where I had to do a logo with a bunch of parametric values, patterns and arc segments in 4 different sketches and a couple of bodies. Just keeping track of which combination of sketches and bodies were on in just this one basic design job was driving me NUTS. When you are blasting back and forth in design you use visual cues to work quickly (example: If I see two lights over there separated, I know I left my view like THIS and if I see 3 lights all in a row I know I left it like THAT.) And you may need to go back a forth a lot for short periods of time. I can't tell which eyes are on or off without stopping and carefully looking at the boxes on the left bar now. I thought they needed to take the lit stuff farther and make the whole component heading and top level body headings light the whole box up so you know more easily which entire sections are on or off besides just the bulb being a little more left or not. 2) The low contrast icons. WTH. They all look like the same command. Why is EVERYTHING blue? Many of those commands are just as commonly used to cut or tool something which would be RED. Why does the create sketch button for example not have the color of a closed sketch area which is intuitive? 3) Why does the sketch heading only appear when you are in a sketch? It's a primary heading. It should be greyed out perhaps along the top but never gone. You can go to solid mode from sketch mode when a sketch is open, but you can't go to sketch mode from solid mode (and then begin a new sketch) if you don't already have a sketch open. It's senseless and confusing.
@AlohaMilton
@AlohaMilton 5 лет назад
@@advil000 yep, its 'designed'. Operating much like the political world on social networking and personal favors totally outside the scope of solving users problems. Someone in power that does not live in a UI for CAD likes minimalist ideology and is an elitist snob, they are pushing 'how it should be' with snide social bullying, and we get icons that we do indeed have to stop and carefully examine to discern the state they are in. Hey at least they aren't then designing flight instrumentation and killing plane loads of people with minimalist low contrast BS... yet.

In the first minute or so, you answered my question. I was going to ask you how I can possibly use your legacy tutorials when none of the steps apply to the new UI. The new UI renders your tutorials for beginners useless. And now I worry that the option to revert to the old UI will be jerked from under my feet without warning. I know I'm getting to use a premier program for free and have no right to complain. But I'm assuming that AutoDesk's offering it free is intended to lead to an improved bottom line at some point. And if that's true-- they're stepping on their on dick by confusing us. If you want beginners like me to use the new UI so we don't have to worry about the old one being turned off-- you'll need to make a whole new set if how-to vids for it.

some bugs that were reintroduced/not fixed with the new UI: broken plug-ins, visibility functionality still weird (sometimes V key hides whole component in upper level, sometimes it only hides body?! Frustrating) , stabilize sketcher which seems to cause crashes, allow sheetmetal flanges to be generated from solid body faces, allow projected sketch objects to be edited without having to delete relations. Meh I could go all day having worked in UI design. But number one is no more 15 sec delays or crashes during sketching. Instability really hurting the product right now with upwards of 3-5 crashes a day now. I push Fusion HARD.

I'm not totally against new ui, but I seem to get into a nasty bugs the first thing like extruding a section with two halves of rectangles selected ad getting and object with split faces. Being a bit lost with ui makes it more annoying when attempting a way to combine faces that were split for apparently no reason. Faces get split in some cases even without split in the drawing. Split faces breaks stuff like making holes with hole command, because it drills into a single face only :( They seem to have fixed graphics issue in virtual box, not it works accelerated which is a huge improvement in responsiveness. DirectX gave before the update stuff like all black objects etc artifacts. A huge issue to a Linux user like me! (as long as there is no Linux version available) There are visual downgrades like what objects is selected is not easy to see (no colors like in old light bulb) and a few other things I really hate. Mostly It is probably about getting used to but mods that make things less visible (like removing colored symbols) is unacceptable bit step back.

Thank you for always sharing your thoughts! Question: After the update, when I start a new model or sketch, when I select what construction plane I want, the camera no longer auto-rotates to the orthographic view. Thoughts? Thank you for your time.

I have noticed a lot of new bugs more than I notice the recent ui changes. I dont mind sending my work as test cases to help autodesk debug their product but sometimes im not comfortable sending work product that borders on proprietary. Any ideas? It just seems like a description of the bug is not enough to get it fixed.

Hello Lairs. I have the newer version of 360. I've completed three beginning tutorials but on the spark plug and the stubby screwdriver I get near completed but I can't perform the final steps Polygon and mirror of the driver opposite face. I can't select the origin planes to sketch on to perform the tasks. I has wondering if its me, the pc lacking memory, or a software glitch. Do you have any issues with the newer version? Thank you for your tutorials...they help a lot even though the the older versions don't quite match the new software steps always but I find the step in time.
@cadfornoobs9830
@cadfornoobs9830 4 года назад
Are the origin planes not visible when you go to select them or are they visible but you are just not able to select them? If you can't see them then make sure that the origin folder has the eyeball selected in the browser tree on the left. Fusion often turns off the origin folder visibility after the first few steps of a model in order to clean up your view for you. If you can see them but can't select them then it is possible that you have a sketch that is turned on and is between you and the origin plane. If there are multiple planes/faces in line with what you are trying to select you can long click/press over it and after a second you will see a small menu box open up with different object names in it. Such as Face, Face, XY etc. Once the little menu pops up you can let go of the mouse button and it will stay open. Mouse over the names in the box and they will highlight in the model space to show you what the names represent. Once you highlight the plane you want just click it and it will be selected.

Change for the sake of change is a waste of resources! The new UI is clumsy at best! @ Lars, your videos are the easiest way to learn F360. Now they are not worth much if the old UI can't be invoked! If I was trying to learn with the new interface on your old videos, I would be dead in the water! I suggest that you make the effort to remake only the getting started video where you modeled the electrical inspection box. That single video was enough for me to be able to muddle through and get to the point that I have drawn some quite complex designs now. Maybe in a new getting started video, you could reiterate that the old UI can be invoked so that noobs can still follow the old vids?

It isn't change for the sake of change. They're making their UI branding consistent across all of their products. So you wouldn't be confused if you swited to their architecture software, for example.

@@cadcamstuff Clearly I just needed to find (and did) a simple tutorial on starting with Fusion 360 that was good for this month... I didn't have a sketch open so no line or dimension tool. I understand why it's like that but I don't like it. Welcome "me" to the world of 3D CAD... I only have Fusion 360 because I am a Cadsoft Eagle user and I used it enough to warrant paying for it. When they included Fusion 360 with my subscription I installed it, tried it, hated it, and closed it :) Then came the bright idea to buy a 3D printer. If I'm going to get the power out of Eagle that I need (making enclosures for my boards) I'm going to have to learn how to use Fusion 360 better. If they keep changing it for the sake of saying that they did something I'll move on to something else. It's all a learning curve so using something else at this point is not that big of a deal to me.
