The reunion of Goku and Vegeta, although very short, was what fans wanted. And the fans got what they wanted and more.

It is cool how they were making this movie around the time of the buu saga. And the DBZ movies are often doubling as advertisements for the main show. Like, "Hey, if you enjoyed this movie, go check out our main series!" So it's commendable writing that they decided to be tonally consistent with the saga they'd be advertising and start with a bad guy in janemba who originally has a more doofy, innocent(ish) fat buu phase. As a kid, the WILD colorful, jelly bean background was extremely visually stimulating/appealing. Even as an adult, it's just pleasant to look at. Idk what inspired them to do that but it's a great visual touch. Like pretty much ever dbz movie of course we have a pretty basic formula though. Bad guy shows up, slow build up to powering up and then the hero losing even while powered up. Cue the last second rescue, rescuer gets his butt whipped. Eventually get a last second power up and victory. This is one of the better, more creative integrations of the formula but I used to read dbz movie synopsis's in the late 90s bc we had no access to these movies. As a kid, I caught on quick to how "wait...these are the same...." I never could sit through any of the movies after the first three bc of how bored the formula made me once I knew about it.

This and wrath of the dragon to me are some of the best. I really hope the remake wrath of the dragon because it feels like it’s still possible and it can give trunks some purpose in super even if just a small one. There would definitely have to be some kinks worked out but I think it could happen
