A reason why gogeta didnt defuse with blue could be that blue was incredibly taxing when it was first introduced, but the more goku and vegeta used it, the more they mastered it and the less ki they needed to maintain blue, this being shown in the dbs manga

No, the anime is different than the manga in one aspect, the Super manga already confirmed that if even just one individual is immortal while the other one is not, when they become fused, the fused body will become immortal. It's only in the anime that when an individual is immortal while the other one isn't, their fused body won't become immortal

As much as I like Gogeta, a good bit over Vegito in fact, ones made from a GODLY technique, while another is just some random alien bum’s technique, the fact that the metomorians techniques can even be in the same class as the potara.

I like to think of it as the Potara fusion is forced while the Fusion Technique is harmonized. What I mean by that is that the earings do all the work with the Potara fusion. Because it forces the fusion through using the god ki stored in the earings, it's not as stable. The Fusion Technique, on the other hand, requires both parties to work together in harmony, both's minds and bodies are in sync, thus making it more stable.

Gogeta, in Super Broly, specifically said, "Our two power levels aren't just added together, they are significantly multiplied."

Some like to use best of a+b x 100 and some people say that gogeta lasted more than vegito because at the time goku & vegeta didn't master ssjb yet and in the broly movie they did so it didn't waste as much time of the fusion

There is something that we should also consider with the potara fusion, at the time of vegito's appearance in super they were using imperfect blue, meaning the form itself was releasing a lot of ki that wasnt being used, this could be the real reason for the shortened time limit. Tho it's pretty circumstancial, i do think it makes more sense than just saying that goku and vegeta's power overpowered a godly technique.

Potara Fusion will always be far superior. It was stated as such. It's a perfect fusion regardless of power difference unlike the fusion dance where its hit or miss depending on power levels and how far your toes and fingers extend.

Super revealing that at higher power levels mortals with the Potaras will defuse before the 1 hour time limit makes Vegito a strictly worse fusion than Gogeta. If by the Goku Black arc they couldn't remain fused for more than a couple minutes, at post Grenolah power levels they would last even a few seconds. A Vegito vs Gogeta fight would be evenly matched for a grand total of 5 seconds, Vegito would defuse and Gogeta would win.

I like to think of the Potara as an over loaded battery when using God Ki and that’s why it’s unable to keep the two together. While the dance relies solely on the twos own power to keep them together, making it more practical

In terms of design i think Vegito takes the cake. However i like Gogeta's skillset alot more than Vegito. I feel like Vegito's skillset is actually a fusion of their individual techniques like Final Kamehameha but Fusion Dance have more original skills like Soul punisher, stardust fall and that nuke in the broly movie. Fusion dance feels like an entirely different being while potara feels like a combined being

Basically, Potara>Fusion dance but by not by much to the point that the difference is not crazy significant like it was in Z where Potara was clearly superior in every single category. Thus, Vegito will always be slightly superior since Potara gives just a slight edge over Fusion dance if both fought, but the edge is minimal that it's possible to go either way and not one sided.

My head canon is that since the potara is meant for gods it doesn’t function as well with mortal, that is why vegito defused in around 30 seconds, meanwhile the fusion is meant for mortals so since goku and vegeta are mortals the fusion lasts the full 30 minutes. Also I don’t know how you forgot about the fact that if a potara fusion in unbalanced the fusion will be much weaker than normally, that is the reason why the gohan and goku fusion would have been much weaker.

Vegito is definitely stronger. I say this because he toys a lot with his opponent all the time due to that overwhelming confidence of his. The usual result is an unfinished fight. While Gogeta is a more serious fighter and doesn't mess around and knows very well his own limitations when it comes to a fight. I think he is aware of the time limit as well to get things done before that happens. Mentally Gogeta wins. Arrogantly Vegito is top notch at it.

imo, Dragon Ball had 2 major blunders: one was Goku never having even an indirect interaction with Bardock (rectified in Super now, but again, I'm talking about DB, not the cartoons or Super) and not having a more clear-cut answer to the strength of fusions. I'm not sure if this count but would another con for potara be the earrings themselves. Reason I say that is because of the Goku vs Kefla fight in the tournament of power his last attack broke the earrings causing Kefla to defuse. So would the fusion also have to make sure the enemy doesn't go for the earrings also during the fight to defuse the fusion?

Goku and vegeta in their base forms are equal. Whis said while training them that they are as strong as they will ever get in base and that they have to find new ways to unlock higher power levels. He was talking about Ultra Instinct.

If this was DBZ potara then that would’ve been the superior fusion. But Dragon Ball Super exists and nerfed potara into oblivion so this topic is irrelevant. Vegito literally only lasted a couple of minutes against fused zamasu. If current Goku and Vegeta were to fuse via potara they would diffuse within seconds because of power scaling reasons. Earrings are absolutely useless now and only useful if the users are weak. Fusion is a GUARANTEED 30 minutes regardless of the power level. There topic over.

My head canon has been that potara, in addition to not requiring equalized power levels, longer timer, and easier preparation, is superior because it creates a perfect fusion. The dance clearly gets better results the more perfectly the dance is performed. No one is PERFECT though so there's likely always some sort of flaw, a loss in power. The potara simply avoids this and creates the perfect fusion at max power.

The real question isn’t how strong Potara is for me, the real question for me is how strong is that DAMN Rival Boost lmao. They basically said Vegito is stronger then gokan simply because of it and the vegito at that time was using a vegeta that was 1 stage weaker than ssj3 and 2 stages weaker than ultimate since ultimate was stronger then ssj3. So for vegito to be said stronger than gokan because of “Rival Boost” then that means Rival Boost has to be at LEAST half of Vegito’s strength “a.k.a 100% of Vegito is (50% the power gained from goku and vegeta and 50% Rival Boost) to make full Vegito BARE MINIMUM.

I never get why people downplay vegito for not finishing zamasu when there was no way he could’ve killed an immortal that took someone like Zeno to erase him and the entire timeline. IMO zamasu and Broly are incomparable in opponents I believe vegito could’ve beaten broly with ease and I believe gogeta would’ve failed to kill zamasu. I really don’t think soul punisher would’ve killed someone immortal.

The whole "rival boost" thing is simply the Elder Kai saying that since Goku and Vegeta had trained to surpass each other their honed in fighting skills and experience are then combined when they fuse making them a more efficient fighter than if Goku and a rusty Gohan had fused. A lot of people seem to think it's an actual "boost" in power but it was just a phrase the Kai used to describe Goku's and Vegeta's dynamic and how it would translate to their merger thus meaning it applies to Gogeta as well.

4:02 I thought it was (A × B) × Y. I thought I remember them saying "The fusion is A × B, then is multiplied several fold". I don't remember if they said a specific number, they probably didn't. It might have been Gowasu who said it. These numbers don't make sense to me, though. Multiplication is very powerful, and it seems like they're throwing multipliers around like it's addition, or percentages under 100%.

About Potara: Maybe it's second option (2), but the number doesn't necessarily have to be x10, i.e. it can change, for example based on the latent potential that someone have? It would make sense that it draws out some of that potential and increase KI density in some way.

Also not entirely sure but the mastery Goku and Vegeta have over a form would impact how long a fusion is able to last. That's most likely why Gogeta was able to last as long as he did and Vegito wasn't able to last as long as an hour.

There's only one thing I do not understand tho, in the DBS manga Vegito lasted around 40 minutes in SSB, which is still 10 more minutes than what the fusion dance provides, so even for longer fights Potara should still be better The one massive advantage fusion dance has over potara however is the fact that potara fusion is SUPER situational, you need to have the potaras which is something only Supreme Kais have, is not like either Goku or Vegeta (or anyone for that matter) carry those around just in case except for the Supreme Kais themselves, but the fusion dance can be performed at any time

I think there are several dbz-era sources that state Potara fusion to have a greater multiplier than ssj3, meaning base Vegetto is stronger than SSj3 Goku. That would suggest something in the realms of (A+B) x 250 to lowball. In Super, Vados also said "tens of times" rather than "ten times", something to consider.

The thing is with the strongest forms thing is that goku didn't use ssj3 in their small fight with buuhan and according the al mango guidebook he would be equal to buuhan.

To clarify, Vados states the Potara earrings multiply their power "tens of times" the "sum" of the fighters. Which means it's more than just A + B x10, it's anywhere between A + B x20-x90, (nearest tens). Just think about it like this for a second, PlayStation 4's game file sizes are "tens of gigabytes", most of them being around 45-50GB roughly, the same applies to the statement by Vados. Also the sum of the fighters is them at their full potential/strongest forms(Like SSj2 Vegeta and SSj2 Goku not being able to touch Buu Han, Yet Base Vegito was tanking him easily.) (Yes I know Goku had SSj3, but that wouldn't have made a difference on Buu Han.) So it would be (SSj2 Vegeta [100x base] + SSj3 Goku [400x base]; [ 500x base] x 50 = 25,000x base form for both characters after fusion, AKA Base Vegito.) If we did 500 x 10, then it's only 5,000 for base Vegito.

The real truth about which one is greater is simple: If the fusion happens in a movie, it will win. If it happens in the show/manga, it will not win. What I'm saying sounds like a joke, but look at every fusion and where they won or didn't win. Every single time it happened in the show/manga, it didn't finish the job, but every time it happened in a movie, it did. Whether you believe Potaro or Fusion Dance is better, or if they're both equal, the real determining factor is what the plot needs.

It's actually stated in the series that the Potara Earrings is more complete than the Fusion Dance Technique which the old Kaioshin/Elder Kai has told this fact to us. The Fusion Dance requires both people to be near the same power level to succeed and is only temporary. The potara earrings don't have this requirement and lasts much longer, so nobody has to lower their power level to fuse. Potara Fusion is a much better choice than Fusion Dance. He assumed that Potara worked the same way as fusion and was sorely mistaken. Gogeta's Fusion Dance has a fatal weakness which is a short duration of usage. On the other side, Vegito's Fusion Potara should have permanent effect, only lately on DB Super and DB Heroes, they seem to be able to separate themselves if the two exhausted or fighting for too long. So, the final verdict is only one, both Akira Toriyama and Toei Animations don’t want to compare the two directly. They are a combination of Goku and Vegeta, two strongest Saiyans, who are equally strong. Vegito>=Gogeta (they are pretty much equals) End of debate. Bro a "rival boost" isn't mentioned anywhere. Because there is no such thing. Kibito Kai said that he didn't know potara was so strong, but elder kai says it isn't potara what's making Vegito strong, it's actually Goku and Vegeta's powers. "Dolt, those two have the power". The reason why Gogeta with SSGSS fought efficiently is because of Experience. And that's why Vegito lost against Zamasu, both Goku and Vegeta didn't knew that Fusion can't hold too much power and would cause them to defuse. Gogeta fought efficiently because of knowing that, he did knew that SSGSS was decreasing his time left on Earth. You said it yourself that "A fusion can't hold too much power beyond SSJ forms like SSJ3 and SSJ4." Even though people claim that anything other than Manga is non-canon (which is simply not true, the story is irrelevant but the capabilities and abilities are relevant) Fusion Dance and Potara's reply to the time limit decrease is only %50 since Gogeta only fought Omega for 15 Minutes straight and Vegito (even though not proven but still count relevant) fought Zamasu only for 30 minutes. I don't understand how can you over go something you said. Both Fusion Techniques can't hold too much power, the case with SSJ3 is excluded (simply because SSJ3 being a heavenly form and can't be used effective in the Mortal Realm, Gotenks did not defuse, they just powered down from SSJ3) It's been proved 3 times that Fusions can't do it with too much power, as i've said before the reason why Gogeta fought efficiently is because of knowing that his time is limited more than ever otherwise why would Gogeta in SSJ4 would lose to Omega if he'd knew the same thing? Aside from that, you forgot one of the biggest cons of Potaras, they can be destroyed as we have seen in the Anime with Kefla otherwise how could Caulifla and Kale would've defused.

Wait huh? Potara lasted for 40 minutes when going all out (and doing a decent bit of talking...) against Merged Zamasu from the start, but it lasts shorter than the 30-minute fusion dance? And this is on top of Gogeta not only being SSJB for a shorter amount of time than Vegito (spending time in Base and SSJ), but also not going all out against Broly (arguably just toying with him) when he was.

The fact that Potara is drained faster in time limit as displayed in the Goku Black arc while in the DBS Broly the fusion dance maintains 30 minutes time no matter what as stated by Piccolo every time Goku and Vegeta failed the fusion is the only thing you even need to know. Even if they were to be equal in SSGSS, one lasts 5 minutes the other lasts 30 minutes. The clear drawbacks is that Potara is easy and instant while the fusion dance requires a perfectly mirror poses to even work, thus the time limitation in Potara's and not in Fusion dance. (No SSJ4 Gogeta's low timer doesn't count as it never actually happened to begin with).

I could be completely confused with the formulas, but if Goku fused with Mr Satan then wouldn't that be immensely worth it considering at worst he'd be a minumum of 10x stronger?

I think the reason vegito defused so much faster in ssb is because goku and vegeta had not mastered ssb at the time goku only masters ssb a little after they defused. Also the time gogeta spends in blue fighting broly is way shorter then vegitos. Anime vegito had around 9 mins in ssb and gogeta was in ssb during dbs broly for less than 2 mins.

I think the reason why Potara seemingly cannot get the job done because they were used in the mainline story where the victory was already decided to be about the actual character rather than which is the available strongest attack or form. Both Potara and Fusion dance did not do good in Buu saga because Goku has to finish the fight with the spirit bomb with the energy of the earthlings. Same with Zamasu arc where Trunks was written to be the one who has to defeat the physical form of Zamasu. Whereas in the movies, they were mostly just an outlet to promote a current gimmick. SSJ3 had about the same impact as Vegito and Gotenks as mere additions to the story. And yet, Goku got the win from that yellow thing from the movie using SSJ3. Gogeta being the main thing on two movies kinda guarantees his victory following this logic. Gogeta would run out of time if he was used in Zamasu arc and Vegito would win if was used in the Broly movie.
