I think the reason why he called his mother in the past is because her mother died in the future. As if he had heard the voice of someone he really missed, he said, "Mom...That's my mom's son Billy..." and before she hung up, he said, "I need to talk to you." If the son wanted to tell his mother, he could have told his mother in the future, but the reason why he called her in the past was because her mother died. So he tried to call her in the past and tell her what he couldn't say. And the mother must have cried because she regretted not hearing her son's last words because she died.
Shane Does Shrimp Its errie because she actually hung up on her son who seemed to be quite distressed and could have possibly been warning her about something
The “oh nobody billy, just a wrong number” is genuinely one of the best voice acting performances i have ever heard. It sounds so natural that i don’t know how to feel about it.
I feel like this hit different too, the fact he just wanted to talk to his mother makes me feel like she died in his timeline and wanted to talk to her one last time...
Kelsey F im just gonna copy and paste my comment in these: the son calling from the future sounded like he was dying and he probably wanted his last phone call to be to his mom. she didnt believe him so she tested him by asking him what his hair color was because only the true son would know the right answer. the sons hair color is red so when he answered "brown" naturally she thought that hes just a prank caller and hung up. when she asked her son what his hair color was afterwards, he answered "brown". in that moment she realised that he has actually always believed that his hair color was brown, realising that the guy on the phone actually WAS her son from the future making his last call. she starts crying because she just hung up on her dying son trying to tell her his last words, then starts to deny it as a coping mechanism saying "no son your hair is red!"
GodsTurf I think future Billy said that his hair used to be brown because as a kid he believed that his hair was brown, until his mom kept correcting him that it was red. Maybe he grew up thinking that his hair changed from brown to red?
There is so much anxiety, terror and depression in your vids, and it is so beautiful. Right now I feel very bad but your art is like a painkiller for me.
I just realized Future Billy said on the phone, "It USED TO BE brown," which meant it is possible that he was referring to his hair being "brown" until her mother said it was red. This also means that this is actually all a vicious cycle which means that something bad happens to the mother, Future Billy calls his mother and says that his hair 'used to be brown', the mother hangs up, then freaks out and says Billy's hair is red.
@Josh Youwa Have you realized that billy in the future was using a phone that contacts the past? Now this would mean that the radio waves from the future have to be sent to the radio waves in the past, and to do this, time travel has to be possible. And time travel is theoretically possible if one might travel at the speed of light. However, based on our current knowledge, traveling at the speed of light is impossible. If you don’t believe this theory applies with the real word and not a movie, you can use a magical thing called the internet, actually, guess what? You’re using it right now you fucking bitch.
Y’all r being too deep, it’s simple, his hair is red (orange) but he thinks it looks brown, so in the future he says brown, this makes the mom hang up, when she asks her son she realizes that he thought it was brown the whole time, meaning that was him on the phone.
the caller said 'used to be brown' but billy's hair is red so she didnt believe the caller and out of curiosity she asks billy the same thing and he said brown in denial that she just hung up on her future son and that he maybe was in danger she lashes out and says that billies hair is red and thats why the caller said 'used to be' so the cycle continues. thats why my head spins too billy was red green colorblind and the mom didnt know that so she thought the caller was wrong when she asks billy she finds out the caller was correct and has a mental breakdown over that future billie might be in danger. its so freaky.
The mom must have died because if he grew up with his mom's influence in suggesting that his hair was red, he would have said it in the phone call but didn't. He seemed really happy to hear her voice so it means something horrible happened to her
no actually the mom of future billy's future didn't know that his son thought to have brown hair, but the mom in this video learned it by talking with her future's son creating an alternative timeline basically
Or maybe the son is dying and he called to talk to her bc he’s in trouble and he knows he’s not gonna make it so he’s calling her one last time to hear her voice before death
What if this incident leads to a mental breakdown that kills Billy's mum? Traumatised by it, Billy spends his life inventing a future phone just to make this call to prevent it. Which causes it to happen again... An endless cycle for all time...
Hugh Raine WAIT NO. or he could say red, proving that he is actually billy. then he could actually talk to his mother, and it would not become a cycle. he could just say red to prevent this, or earlier examining his hair as a toddler after his mum dies.
This is like the only video by Jack Stauber that actually made me deeply disturbed, and I’m not sure why. I thought about this video the other day and started crying, it was so weird. It just kinda freaked me out I guess
Fun fact: there used to be way less color categories back then. People back then described orange as red, hence where redhead came from, and people used the fruit oranges to name that yellowy red color.
I know a lot of the comments try to explain that it's the mother who's colorblind but guys... It makes way more sense that the son suffers from red-green colorblindness, which is a majority of colorblindness that affects males. So he would be under the belief that his hair is brown because that red color would appear brown to him. This also ties together with how Billy from the future said "it used to be brown" as he used to think that it was brown until his mother told him it was actually red.
Have you ever met someone actually named Billy before? Like. . . Actually. . ?I Edit: I adore how absolutely owned i got in the replies, and looking back to when I wrote this i can even think of a few Billy's in the media. Where was my mind when I wrote this thing? Edit 2: Happy New Years guys, it’s great that people are still messaging all the people with Billy as their name, some I am in a constant state of wonder as to how I forgot about them.
McCloud actually he’s not. He has a valid point. The timeline where Billy called his mom was erased once his mom told the young Billy his hair was red, thus erasing the older Billy.
I don’t know why but every single time I watch your videos, it gives me a sense of calmness and it soothes my anxiety. The music and the imagery is so delightful and gives a sense of being at home. I love your work please do post more beautiful content but don’t force yourself if you don’t want to!
I think what’s happening is the mother is very confused and she refuses to believe that it was her son from the future on the phone. The reason she yelled at Billy about what his hair color was is because she wanted to believe that the person on the phone was wrong.
This is basically what I’m pretty sure went on: So, sometime and somehow, something happened with a boy named Billy and his mother. Most likely, Billy’s mother died when he was a kid and so Billy had to grow up always missing his mother. Then, as an adult, Billy invents a phone that can call into the past. There are two possible reasons for Billy making the call: either Billy himself was dying, or Billy wanted to call to prevent his mother’s death. I personally believe Billy might have been dying, due to the sound of his voice. So, Billy calls his past mother. The past mother picks up, but obviously doesn’t believe it’s actually her future son. So, she asks Adult Billy what his hair color is, to be sure. Adult Billy replies, saying, “Brown.” Billy’s hair is red, so the mom hangs up, thinking the caller is a fake. Then, the mom walks to Billy’s room and talks to Present Billy, who is still a toddler. Just out of curiousity, the mom asks Billy, “What color is your hair?” Then, Toddler Billy replies, “It’s brown.” Suddenly, the mom realizes: Billy is colorblind. Meaning, Billy thought his hair was brown when it was really red. The mother realizes she just hung up on her future son, who might have been dying or in danger. She then is filled with grief and sadness, and begins to lash out and yell at Toddler Billy.
Also a thought: Billy from the future says “ I’m on a phone from future “ it makes me believe that the mom has some sort of mental problem which loops in her head that her son is still young and when little Billy says it’s brown that’s her telling herself the truth and the man on the phone was her son and she couldn’t remember how old he was. But I think the reason why Billy from the future says it’s a phone from the future is that he doesn’t want to scare his mom . But another theory I have is that she is realizing that her son will grow up and not stay young forever. This happens often with a mother that has gone through miscarriages . My mother was that where she would break down and cry when it was my birthday. She is scared of Billy growing up. She is scared of Billy changing. This also happens to controlling and possessive parents.
If you notice, there's a lot of clues in the vídeo that make posible the Theory of the mother being colorblind, the phone and the flowers are of the same color of the son's hair, and the little car, so maybe she thought that those things were red. And color red in hair is more orange or brown than true red. But the mother's hair is more brown, so, maybe the son thinks that his hair is brown, cause of the mother. And he grew up, until making that call.
Theory: what we are seeing here is a time cycle of torment. Timeline: 1. The mom starts abusing Billy trying to indoctrinate him into thinking his hair is red 2. It fucks Billy up as an adult, future Billy calls his past mom to try to mend things before the abuse starts 3. "My hair used to be brown" - His hair color never actually changed and this statement is probably a result of the indoctrination and abuse 4. The mom becomes psychologically damaged over realizing the truth of time travel and begins abusing Billy and trying to indoctrinate him into thinking his hair is red to prevent the Future Billy from calling. 5. The time loop continues infinitely, ironically fueled by both Billy and the mom's attempts to prevent and stop it, and outside of the time loop it fucks both individuals up permanently later in life.
My point of view : Future Billy calls his past mom because he wanted to say something important to her, then the mom wanted to test him to make sure its real so she asked him a simple question "What color is your hair?" He said "it USED to be brown" What he meant was he used to think his hair was brown but his mother convinced him its red. The mother hanged up, she then asked present Billy "What color is your hair Billy?" Billy said "its brown" The mother broke down in tears when she noticed that the person on the phone was actually Billy.
This reminds me of this nightmare I had recently after my grandma passed away this summer. I saw her in my dream and she was standing still not saying a word and I pointed at her and told my mom "look there's grandma" but my mom looked sad and then I said "don't you see her?" and was confused at why my mom wasn't saying anything. Then my mom started crying. Then I woke up horrified, again realizing that she's really gone. Ik it probably has nothing to do with the meaning of this video but it gave me the same horrifying vibe as my dream. Maybe it's the somber music and the twisted nature of the end
My grandma had a similar dream after my grandpa died where he was sick and in bed, like he had been irl, so she called the doctors. They were confused when they came and she realized eventually that she was the only one that could see him.
I have a theory: This is a time loop. In the fuure, billy calls his past mom, when his mom asked him what his hair was, he said it USED TO BE brown, he said this because he used to think his hair was brown before his mother told him (as a kid) it was red. After the call, (in the past) his mother started to tell him it was red, trying to give him the idea, and force him into thinking it was red to stop him from ever calling the past. But it would never stop since both the son and mother want to break the loop. The loop: The mother answers the call, the number is future billy, the mom hangs up as he says "my hair used to be brown" because billy's hair is red, she then asks billy what the color of his hair is, billy answers with "It's brown, mommy" and the mother gets saddend she says "It's red billy" and after this part, she starts to abuse him, to force him to think his hair is red, then billy calls the past mom to try to stop the loop, and it happens all over again.

Let me guess, you watched this video before, then at a later time thought of your comment, went back to the video wanting to comment this, but mistakenly clicked this video, instead of "hey mom". Just thinking out loud here.
This might actually be a short animation about parents being mad at their offspring for being themselves causing them to doubt themselves and develop poorly making them a failure. I know it's a stretch but if it was, then damn, Jack is a genius.
Ah, call it overanalyzing but I interpret this whole video as happening inside the Mom's psyche. Billy calls her, and tries to talk with her. The whole interference thing comes from the dissonance between the mental image the mom had from Billy and the real one. In reality, Billy is no longer the child who she knew everything about. Instead, he has his own problems and worries. But the mom doesn't want to acknowledge this, and instead "tries" him, doubting of his words and comparing him with the mental Billy. By doing this, she goes back to her confort zone at the cost neglecting the problem and leaving the real Billy alone. It is only after some time that she asks herself if, maybe, she didn't actually know fully her mental Billy. It is then, when she realizes it's too late to restore that connection with her dear child, that she breaks down in tears.
