Love the V coupe performance and certainly the best looking of the CTS bodies, but I think the ELR has more dramatic styling, particularly it’s frontal grill point/nose & taillight fins. It’s pure Art & Science (efficiency not traditional performance)

This car represents the crescendo of the era when Cadillac pulled itself out of near extinction in the early 2000s by reinventing itself with complete focus on engineering. Unfortunately, they slowly went back to their old ways. This CTS was made on the Sigma II platform which was designed from the ground up for this car. The first generation SRX, for example, was an excellent SUV winning many awards. It was designed by Cadillac and exclusively for Cadillac (Sigma I). For the second generation in 2010 GM decided to cut costs and build it on the Epsilon platform. In other words, they reskinned a Malibu. WTH Cadillac?!
@casualmmafan6464
@casualmmafan6464 2 года назад
This generation really nailed it in the design. I have a 2012 srx and it always catches attention. The new Cadillac, although better..,all look so plain. This car also looks good in a v6.

That generation of CTS-V was the fastest production sedan around Nürburgring for six months... until Porsche stuffed turbos in the Panamera. I love the V's. I've had two, and hope to keep the current one as long as possible. As to the "four-door Corvette" the car does handle very well for as heavy as it is. Corvette is obviously lighter and more nimble, but the chasis for the V is awesome.

I fully intend to one day own a CTS-V wagon with a manual, they're just the coolest damn thing in history to me as a GM guy and certainly among the last of its breed forever. I had the chance to drive a manual sedan, and was just amazed at how easy it was to drive VERY irresponsibly, one of the few cars I've ever driven that I think I might've been actually competitive with on track (I don't race, so I could be wrong, but I like to drive and am good at it, and I was FAST in that car despite not knowing the car at all). Just a brilliant swan song, in my opinion, for fast, V8, manual transmission, comfortable, American cars that an American can be proud of and that truly was on par with anything else out there. And available in a wagon for weirdos like me, haha!

I own a 2009 CTS-V sedan with a manual transmission and absolutely love it, one of the most underrated/overlooked vehicles in my opinion. It's a great blend of speed and luxury (granted, not nearly as refined as most European vehicles) without breaking the bank in terms of price point, maintenance/service, parts/mods, etc. Currently undergoing an extensive build at the moment (416ci, Kong 2650, E85 w/ nitrous, etc.) and the idea of making >500hp stock let alone 4 digit horsepower figures in a 2-ton Cadillac sedan truly makes the CTS-V a modern-day sleeper.

Jay just FYI apparently the twin screw Kompressor on the M113k E55 AMG requires 200 hp to run it at redline. The car makes 469 bhp stock, and in the NA from the engine would make approx 315 bhp with 9:1 compression . This means the gross power of the Supercharger is approx 360 BHP ! So I imagine the power usage of this CTS would be fairly similar. Ie MUCH more than 15 hp .

In the boardroom you have to satisfy the dealers also despite having engineers running the division. If Corvette (Chevy) made a four door sports car then the dealers may say that it’s stealing sales away from something else.

So plum for the new tires already!! Its no small thing for Cadillac to reinvent itself and get it so right with this car. And the manual box just shows that they were serious. Your comparison with the 2002 E55 AMG Merc says it all. American engineers can always deliver the sheer performance at less cost that the European equivalent. With your title: "Future Performance Collectible" you struck exactly the right note. Well done Jay!

Of the cars I've owned, my favorites (including the current one) have all had manual transmissions. I just enjoy/prefer a manual. Three of these have had turbocharges. The one I owned in the late 80's certainly did have a bit of lag before it kicked you in the butt, but I've not really noticed any lag in the past two (current and a 2010 model). Not saying I wouldn't enjoy a supercharger, but I do like the turbochargers, and I'm a bit shocked at how good the gas mileage in my current car is ... especially since it requires a minimum of 89 octane gas (not so cheap).

An impressive car. I don’t know if it did much for Cadillac as they eliminate sedans one by one and concentrate on SUVs.

I love my 2014 CTS-V Coupe! The only thing I absolutely hate about it is the infotainment system. The "551 Horsepower" Is flywheel HP (factory rating). I've done a few bolt on mods and a tune and it is dyno-ing right at 545 Wheel horsepower. Only trouble I have is getting the tires to hookup without spinning. Need to switch to a better sport compound.

When you have 300 cars to drive you don't have to drive that often😉

Nice Holden Monaro CLONE.. We had that in Australia since Jeremy Clarkson drove it on top gear... years ago.. Cadillac cannot invent, they just copy HSV AUSTRALIA Cars... And it's Butt Ugly... looks stupid...

Jay, you keep blaming ur tires but ignore that you shut off traction & stability control running around on slick city streets and admit ur not a race driver... of course it's gonna break loose! What RU doing bro?! (and why is there no odometer, you keep talking how nice it is for it's age but somehow didn't tell the mileage and it's not on the display anywhere?)

Agree. Looks like a current modern transformer car. Still very futuristic looking.
