On Saturday May 13, 2023 we invited the Eugene Fun Utility Vehicle community for a sunny ride through town. How many can you count? We count 23 (including our camera-FUV, the Cameo). We enjoyed some countryside, got cheers as we drove past the Saturday Market, and ended up on the bluff overlooking Eugene in its springtime glory.

Looking forward to the 2.0 version as doors and climate control will be an added revenue stream along addressing the white elephant in the room. So many people want those optional doors and climate control that it's a great way to increase the profitability of the company and hire many more Americans to build this product. Chris, you are the guy to turn this around and then, I (along with many others) will buy this product. Steering wheel is just the icing on the cake. Keep up the good work.

Put doors on the thing, at least offer them as an option, and you'd have a practical all-weather (or most weather) commuter vehicle. As is, you have a recreational vehicle, and a very expensive one.
@billsmith5960
@billsmith5960 Год назад
The next version will have doors. Jesse and Chris addressed this as 99% of the potential buyers want them. I know from experience, you get wet when they are not there. Plus people that live in cold climates will not buy it unless there are optional doors. It's coming soon and it'll make a much better vehicle. It'll also have a steering wheel which will make it much easier to steer and park. The current design is not good for city driving.
@popeyegordon

No. This is an autocycle, not a car. A billion motorcycles and scooters have no doors and they are still in extremely high demand. Be satisfied with the rare luxury of the wrap around windshield with wiper, washer and defroster; joined to a roof with rain gutters and surrounded by a certified crash cage. This is a very low cost EV when you consider you save $1000 every year through the much cheaper insurance rate and no fuel to buy. No air bags or catalytic converter to steal, no clutch to wear out, no timing belt that is a disaster when it breaks. It is a utility vehicle which has a different meaning from recreational vehicle. FUV owners do commute year around. We stay dry in rain, there are several videos proving that. We have heated seats and hand grips so we only need wind breakers and no biker gear.
@billsmith5960

@@popeyegordon - Tell this to Chris as he's moving the product in a different direction. He's a great leader and is planning to change the product. So, better let him know now that it is no longer needed as you have the verifiable evidence that it's just fine the way it is. This will allow him to not spend unnecessary money on things like doors. Being the FUV Owner you are, you know better than Chris (listen to the customer base). Let him know and they can just go down the path of zero changes as this is the perfect vehicle.

@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon Год назад
You are precisely where doors and climate control are a bad idea for sustainable light EVs. Enclosed glass compartments are deadly, they become solar ovens very quickly. That could kill your dog quickly. Arizonans tint the FUV's clear roof and the brow. They add ventilated seat covers and a fan on the dash. Enclosure adds too much weight, then you expect AC, another weight and power penalty that sucks the battery dry prematurely. A billion motorcycles and scooters have no wrap around windshield and roof. That's a billion people getting by OK without climate control. BUT every one of them wishes they had the luxury and safety Arcimoto provides. I'm in hellishly hot and humid Florida. You could not pay me to add doors. Too many self entitled Americans demand the comfort level that is only appropriate for heads of state and royalty in formal attire. Get humble and live sustainably! Our survival depends on it.

These would be useful as a vacation rental or RV tow-behind. Maybe a fair weather commuter as well. But, after the Out of Spec Review segment, it is not useful for any non-local travel and the slow charging in an Achilles Heel.
@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon Год назад
I can point out that you overooked the primary use that is of most importance - substituting this for a car to reduce envirnomental impacts. I bought my last gallon of gas 8 years ago. I drove an e-bike for 7 years to be able to afford my new FUV. "Non-local travel" became obsolete for the next several centuries when the science consensus reached 99.9% for global warming causes. There is only one way to travel without stealing more than your fair share of resources from future generations and that does not include motorhomes unless they are you only residence. Use busses, trains or bicycles for longer trips. I have no sort of 'slow charging' issue with mine becuse I use it responsibly as my only transportation. Just plug it in each time I get back home for easy L1 charging. In 18 months I have never run my battery down below 40% charge. L2 charging is for those in a hurry. No one single video can nullify the greatness of a vehicle.

EV drivers and environmental remediation projects will benefit from the taxe penalties you pay when you refuse to refrain from using more than your fair share of resources, thus stealing more than what you need from future generations who will miss it. I can travel far from home all I want without making our problem worse, it is called public transportation. But I also refuse to fly until we have more electric planes. For a good perspective on what doors, windows and climate control does to the range and efficiency of light EVs, just look at the latest iteration of the Smart Car EV. The range is just 58 miles EPA rated. Decide if you want fun or climate control, you can't have both in a light EV. Note that both the Smart Car and the Arcimoto had standard highway safety crash testing. The Arcimoto's formula one racing safety system is better, no air bags needed.

The steering fix was completed several months ago. All new vehicles have a hard time when starting out because it is a very expensive undertaking and this one is a new concept which requires out or the box thinking to understand what it offers. @manp1039
@manp1039 Год назад
@@popeyegordon their range is very low.. many reviewere were worried about even making it to 60 miles on a full charge.. Initiially i was invisioning this vehicle as a good fleet vehicle for USPS and Traffic controll operations or beach patrols or parking enforcement operations etc. but looks like these things are not even in the vision there.. they are mostly interested in setting up dealerships for vacation rentals of these vehicles as their way to make money. I bailed months ago,, after losing 60 percent of my investment.. and it dropped suptantially more after that. had i held on.. i would be down over 95 percent. I think there are many other better options for people, that are cheaper and provide most of (and more) of what the FUV provides.. For those that can't ride an electric bicycle.. there are some recumben or semi recumbent electric 3 and 2 wheel bicycles . And those ones can be taken on public transit if needed. And those ones can be charged essentially anywhere, which adds to the convenience. this vehicle, as i see it and as i see the founder seeing it, is really just a recreational vehicle for people who like to ride motorcycles and can afford something that is more expensive than an ordinary motorcycle. It is not a vehicle for the masses, IMHO.

@@timothyharris6927 - No they don't (according to a long time owner of the FUV). Having full doors on a Smart car reduces it's range to 58 miles. If they wanted to stay in the US, then move to the SE US. Eugene is an expensive place to live and thus you need to pay more. Plus, it's not really known for manufacturing. Go to places like SC and all of a sudden you are closer to suppliers and a trained labor base. Plus with a cost of living that is less, you don't have to pay as much. Look, You Arcamoto needs me, I can tell you why the company is failing and how to fix it, You already have the elements in place to fix things but for some reason you keep fumbling the easy and obvious, and pushing the FUV is not the answer. why? #1 you are having trouble getting people to build and buy them you are also having trouble getting parts and you also have the problem of them being $15,000 to expensive. All these problems are not problems that you are going to overcome in time to save your dying company. SO, yes, keep building the FUV BUT put way more effort into the tilt bike, and make it a reasonable price, A: it easier and cheaper to build B: you can ship them around the world C: people without any license of any kind can buy them and use them to get to around or to work D: the range is just as good if not better then the FUV ( if what I have heard is true )
