I am from California. Completely new to airguns and have never watched any of your videos before. Having said that, I want to tell you, I thought it was an excellent review and answered many of my questions. We have many confusing and ever-changing laws on conventional guns here and I have been thinking about a .22 airgun for varmint hunting and plinking. The Wildcat sounds like a very interesting choice. Thanks for the video!
True, Air Arms side lever is just unbeatable in felt quality, it's butter smooth, no free play, no strange sound, just perfect. On the Wildcat it seems a bit cheaper made but still not bad.
I just got my .25 Wildcat in walnut based on your recommendation, and the accuracy and consistency is amazing, but the finger print resistant finish could use FAR more durability if anyone reading is concerned about it. Small brushes against not so hard surfaces result in the finish scratching off.
I have just had the fx wildcat fac and it is fantastic and so accurate I will say its the best airgun I have ever had and ive had so many , love this rifle
Good review dude, Note about the magazine no one seems to mention. ITS ONE OF THE BEST. Imagine you have had a few shots, glance at your mag ind see you only have 5-6 shots left YOU CAN PUSH MORE PELLETS IN without taking it out. My Hatsan at44 is JUST manageable if you are careful and not too fumbly, but that one looks SWEET. Heading to the shop tomorrow, Fingers crossed they have one in stock :)
Excellent review as always. I also own a Wildcat. Mine was actually the first to shoot here in Portugal in July last year and after 6 months i can say it is the best airgun i ever had. As you the only thing I can point is the 8 shot magazine. Had a Cricket prior and that 14 shot magazine was really nice but a pain to put in place. Accuracy wise is preaty amazing. One and a half inch groups at 100m preaty easy to do with the 15.9 JSB. They group a litle better than the 18.1's. Keep up the excellent videos and regards from Portugal.
great review......but.....That grouping is terrible!! I have the FX bobcat Mk2 .22 cal, I use H&N Barracuda 21.14 grain and at all pressures ( 12, 24 and 36 PSI), I get groups CONSONANTLY of 5-8mm diameter ...
Shouldn't be too hard to bodge a spring onto the exposed rod that actuates the cocking mechanism so you can have a spring return cocking lever like the FX Cutlass.
Great to see a new video Matt, excellent as always. Every time I convince myself that I should get a more traditional looking rifle for my next purchase, something comes along to push me back towards the Wildcat!
Thanks for the review, Matt. When I saw this video up, I thought for sure you had yourself a new gun--you mentioned on some post that this one changed your mind about bullpups. I'm glad you shot a group without the camera. I just received a Wildcat in .25, and I have high hopes for shots to 50 and 100 yards (our temp right now is 15 degrees F in the upper midwest states--I'll brave the cold at some point). Congrats in advance on your Impact; looking forward to the review. Good hunting.
Another fine video, thanks so much for covering so many aspects of this gun but even more, thanks for explaining all the tiny nuances that exist from gun to gun. This was really great! Buddy
Nice review Matt.. That gun looks very promising for sure. However, I agree that something needs to be done about not seeing your last pellet in the magazine. Leave it to me for shooting a blast of "air only" on a prize squirrel! Lol
Hi Matt. Bring on a review to a Bobcat mk II .Because this gun gives a bigger shot count wich is important for me as an " Not Hunter" ( its´not allaut ) in my country Field Target is preorety !
Your welcome. I don't want to put you on the spot or anything but once your finished reviewing the FX Impact could you take a look over the AirArms Galahad when you get the time, i'm interested to know the .22cal FAC shot count.
+HuntersVermin The Galahad will only be available in April, but I will definitely review it if I get the chance. When I fitted a reg to my S510, I got about 100 consistent shots at 28 foot pounds (with a small change to the hammer spring) so I am optimistic about the Galahad.
Yes I saw the Galahad at the British shooting show and as far as i remember they advertised the regulated action got 60 shots at 30ft/lb not as many as you got with your s510 but still impressive. I know they have one or two miner changes before full production but its still a rifle i'd consider buying. I wonder now if they are going to offer regulated actions in their other models sometime in the future.
WATCHING FROM BOTSWANA. I have been watching almost your videos, you and Roelf Vorster. Good night explanation, makes me love FX impact MKIII Snipper. How can I get one. Do you an office here in Botswana?❤
+ascarissuis That's my question too. I have the p-rod with rapid70 bullpup stock, but the leak around the gauge is an irritating reoccurring issue. The gun is very accurate though--enough to confidently go for headshots rather than body shots.
did U got any experience with Artemis pellets ? I think from China. But at medium power at my Bobcat .22 great results! High power? no go , flying everywhere !!!! At my HW 77 k .177, perfect!!
Great review, Matt. I've been hankerin' for an Impact myself and like you, I am going to wait until I can get one. Here in the US, Airguns of Arizona has informed me that they will put me on their lengthy waiting list for an Impact if I submit a $200.00 deposit. Now that the holidays have passed, I'm going to go ahead and bite the pellet.
I have the .25, extremely pleased with all aspects of the gun, that being said I wish I had waited for the Impact as well. P.s. Fun to see you cruising through youtube in England ;-)
Great video but l would like to ask you if you did not found any accuracy problems .because i want to purchase one wildcat .22 this year . I have seen some videos people talking on accuracy problems they saw on fx wildcat .that made me to stop thinking of buying it till i ask you .
Good review. I'd love to buy the gun, super compact, and bullpups are slowly starting to become more reasonably priced. I'd still like it to be under $1000USD which I KNOW is a reasonable price point. PCP's still have way, way, more markup than powderburners. The reason they cost what they do is because pcp rifles are still a niche market, and there still isn't a ton of competition, although both areas are improving. I have a 44" evanix rifle which is fantastic in many ways, but I've come to realize that a small efficient rifle is far more practical for the way I shoot (pest hunting in suburban areas).
When you where shooting the JSB 18.1 gr. exact jumbo pellets, the target shifted quite a bit and looked like it could of construed the results of your test.
Thanks for making this video, your interest in creating RU-vid videos of this sort is the make or break for large investments for the rest of us! Been watching this review for a few weeks now and must say I`m pleasantly surprised, it seems FX has improved on the cocking mechanism (known for being of lesser quality on the first batches). I knew the differences between the Wildcat and the Impact and made my purchase based on what I knew back then, now I`m even more sure that I made a sound order from my local shop (Sakshaug Sport) 4 months ago, just wish they`d hurry the heck up and send it to my shop already! :D
Well, I bought a gun safe, applied for a .25 air rifle at the police station (c.a 100 euros) the shop called FX again and again for an update on the guns (incl the .25 Wildcat that I made a 90% deposit on) that the shop ordered, still nothing, month after month after month after month after month etc, fall came and went, winter came and went, nothing... After 6 months my application was out of date (max delay between approved application for a gun and date of acquiring the gun is 6 months). The shop owner, desperately pressuring FX for any sort of ETA on the guns (poor guy), guaranteed me that I could re-apply without paying any more money (in that he was correct). Waited another 2 months for a word on the gun anyway, but still no go.. Meanwhile AoA seemingly got them in sizeable batches, every 3rd month (!!!) In the end, I made the decision to cancel the order and rather try again some time later. Obviously FX acts to the fullest of their capacity and I`m not dissing on that. And I`m just a human, but 8 months.. IMO they could do better :)
Yip, that's the 8-32. It's a little chunky for this gun though, I would have rather fitted a 4-16. No point getting a light gun if you're going to put a chunky scope on it.
+AirArmsHuntingSA - really helpful, thank you. I am eyeing up the Wildcat 30ftlb. Your review was great - have you tried shooting it at your long ranges? Is it as accurate as some of your shots I have seen in some of your long range videos? What weight / make of pellet worked best with it? Thanks.
I’ve been wondering, instead of spending thousands of dollars on air guns, why don’t you just buy a .22lr or short for 200$. I have a 170$ marlin model 60 and it can easily get better groups than all of these thousand dollar air guns. I can bust shotgun shells at 90 yards no problem. I understand that .22s are louder, but I wouldn’t want to pay 2000 dollars to get a quiet gun.
Annony Mouse he has video tutorial on mounting sling studs, on an s510 with wooden stock I believe, but the principles are the same. just might have to adjust for drilling through polymer if that's the option you went with..
great review. that 19 plus minutes of video must have taken up a lot of time editing. I like how you outlined the review categories. (I may steal that )
Haha yes it definitely makes things a little easier when the categories are up. I've been enjoying your videos as well - You made me want to take a serious look at the Taipan and the Edgun, but unfortunatley we can't get them here! Hopefully that will change soon.
Hi there, im late to the wildcat party. Can the mk1 change calibre do we know? Cant seem to find anything online besides mk2 and mk3 variants however nothing for mk1
You should defantly be allowed to keep that shooter after that review. Great video buddy. I'm a springer lover, but this one's a beaut. Bet it's good for woodland hunting on the Squirrels!? Cheers Andy
Love your channel! I am new in the pcp guns, i realy love the wildcat mk2 or the royale... i cant make a choice 🙈 but whit your channel it helps a lot to make a good choice to buy a nice and goog first gun! Grtz from Holland
I don't get the shit about the cricket. It is simply a better gun, the build quality is superior. It has a cheekpiece (50 dollars) wich gives you very good ergonomics and the magazine goes in easily enough once you get used to it. I owned both in .22 at one point, and I still have the cricket, sold the cat.
It's ridiculous to say, but I feel like Matt is cheating on his Air Arms when he's giving other guns such praise. Now that Air Arms has a bullpup, I wonder which direction he'll choose to go..
I have a wildcat, and have problems with the mag getting scratched by the index lever to the extent that it will not rotate. I have to keep smoothing it down with emery paper. Does anyone else have this problem? I have complained to the shop but they say that they have informed FX and being advised me to strip it down and gently file it down !!!!!!! Not what you want to here when you have just spent £1050.
Hi since I posted this I have filed and polished the index mag lever and it works fine now. but 2 of my magazines have stopped working the bearing in the middle has ceased. It is a shame because the gun is great to shoot, when itl works the way its supposed to.
I have seen this issue come up too many times when researching which gun I'd like to buy. Seems like a common complaint. The magazine system is fragile and poorly thought out. And owners indicate FX couldn't care less about supporting it, but they'll sure sell you a couple more magazines. Yeah, it's a great gun. It would probably be perfect if it had a Brocock Compatto style magazine.
I need a professional opinion, I have already put a $3200 down payment on the FX wildcat .22 caliber but I'm afraid that I should be getting the FX bobcat MKII,.... Will I be more accurate out to 100 yards with the Bobcat compared to the Wildcat in .22 caliber?? I have seen videos from AirArms South Africa, Ted HoldOver and a few others which suggest judging by the shake in the camera after the gun is fired, that's the Bobcat is more stable than the Wildcat. I like the small look of the Wildcat but it is more important to me to be accurate out to 100 yards or more and would be willing to give up the smaller profile, side cocking lever and lower weight for accuracy if the Bobcat is indeed more accurate at longer ranges,...... Does anyone have some suggestions or insights on this matter? I have about a week or two before Airguns of Arizona ships the Wildcat for me to change my mind and would appreciate any and all information/insight I can get to make an informed decision.
+Matthew McWilliams $1400 for the Wildcat, $800 for the scope, $230 Hugget silencer, bi-pod, air-pump, eagle vision, carrying case and pellets......... Yea every bit of $3200.
Hope the tree your shooting into isn't going to suffer from lead poisoning! Plus the holes your putting in the thing make it easy for all those ants that are crawling on it , easy, breakfast, lunch & dinner. You may want to invest in a target box with rubber tire bit's and pieces in it like I have made. Plus you can recycle the lead back into new pellets after you collect them up. I'll think I'll wait for the FX Impacts to be redesigned from some of their issues. Like easier foster fitting removal and possibly high initial cost to purchase before buying a FX Wildcat. like every thing wait and something better will always come around!! BOB CAT, TO WILDCAT, TO IMPACT. Ed Gun Matador to well you get the picture!! You can only shoot one at a time. And Yes it's nice to have a choice.
hi boss.. i love ur video so much.. im planning to buy this month. Can i ask if what is more good in hunting... CALIBER 177 or CALIBER 22? tnx in advance
Hi, im a beginner and i want to buy my first pcp airgun and i have about 1,300$ ,witch one should i choose ? (I want it for small game hunt like rabbits, foxes, squirrels and some birds) pls reply.
dose anyone answer here ??? I need a few questions asked will this shoot predator poly mags and dose anyone know if the bobcat will shoot predator poly mags
wow I just ordered a wild cat and I asked them specifically if the wildcat .25 would shoot predator poly mags and they told me it sure will but the royal and bobcat would not . so I think I am going to call them back asap
Great review- very good information, and I'll add quite professional. I am thinking you prefer hunting versus punching holes in paper :) Otherwise, another excellent video, Matt.
I had been taking care of the rodent squirrel and chipmunks in the yard, with my break barrel, but it seems a certain bird wants a piece of the action. second day with my wildcat and a bird shit on it..
Greetings from Spain and congratulations for your videos. I miss one theme that I have never seen or reviewed on youtybe. The question is: imagine you zero your scope to 40 metres. Of course at that distance all the pellets will go to the centre of the target. But what will be the performance of the bullet if you shoot at the center of the target at 20, 25. 30, 35, 45, 55, and 60 metres?? Will they all go to the center of the target?? Will that pellet always fly straight? if not what do we have to keep in mind? How is possible that people shoot at birds from 20 to 60 metres aiming at the centre of the body of the bird and the pellet goes there? WE would appreciate if you do a review about this matter. Thanks a lot.
Did you ever work out why your rifle has the longer shroud? Is it the same as the 447mm shroud that is usually on the .25cal? instead of the 345mm on the .177 & .22? Cheers
