I needed something gay to watch as I slowly make my way through Fellow Travellers and G.B.F was suggested to me... damn, was it something. I can't get over how utterly terrible this film was but it made me fall in love with it even more!? How is that possible!?

I recently watched this with straight friends and they ALL hated it??? Me and my other gay friends were all like this is definitely a hidden gay gem - the dialogue, the acting, the c*nty music??? A gay wet dream!

Its a 2013 movie, this was basically the budget/quality for every gay movie that wasnt oscar baiting with explotaition of gay traumas and an all straight cast. Like this movie is rated R, when it isnt that much raunchier than something like mean girls which is pg-13.

@@kiefcoffee it probably is due to it being centered on queer characters, like even the director talked about how he thought the only reason the movie was R rated was because of double standards, and that a straight movie doing the same would be pg-13

i saw this when it came out (and years before i did lol) and it was just horrible. 2013 was different and it did not work at the time. i haven't seen it since. but watching it back now? talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular... like fr so badly acted by most of the cast, shot on a flip video, and homophobic af but the writing was sneakily brilliant and the whole thing is just so camp it's funny

Was saddened when it looked like it wasn’t clicking and then suddenly you got the vibe. It’s very much a specific genre of “OTT arch-gay satire that no one in Hollywood will give money so they raided every couch in the country to fund” They used to be more common but I think this is one of the better ones. Also, I already liked Michale J Willett who played Tanner from his time on the show Faking It so I was already primed to like this film.

This reaction was great, my high school at its best, another gay movie is eating out from 2004, gay comedy drama, with desperate housewives star Ryan Carnes. A straight guy is set up with his female roomates gay best friend.❤❤

Have you ever watched the tv show Looking? It was a short lived LGBTQ+ series (Only 2 seasons + a movie) that you can stream off of Max. Would be a riot to see you react to this particular show. A lot of the LGBTQ+ community had mixed feelings about this series, so there were a lot of discussions and think pieces about it during the time it aired in 2014.

Yes to all of them except Beautiful Thing (sorry), but omg particularly Mambo Italiano which was hilarious coming from an Italian family. And Shelter is my comfort movie, back when every gay movie had to had trauma and death

@@moramorandobianchi7093 Whaaaat? Except Beautiful Thing? Whyyyy? It's such a good and real film, probably the first film I saw where main gay characters were closer to my age back than. The only other film like that I can think of was Get Real, which I also like, but I think they miscast main character's love interest, main character looked like a teen and his love looked like his teacher and not a peer.

@@alexreid1173 it does have heart :) and it most certainly low budget and lacks in some areas, but it's never proper bad, most certainly I've seen more lacking gay-themed films, some were closer to a highschool project for a hobby group than to a real film. :D

i’m sorry but i really love this movie. the writing is FUN and unique and im so glad the writers weren’t afraid to go all out. i still think this movie holds up, despite coming out in 2013. like it’s honestly just a fun campy movie and those who hate it simply don’t get it.

This movie is so weird and a little bad and I love it. Speaking as someone who spent 25 years Mormon, this movie is accurate. All the teachings do is demonize sexuality so people repress it, resulting in wild and often horrible consequences.

I'd love to know how much this cost considering some of the cast names, quite a few background artists, plenty of location filming which often costs more, etc. The cast probably didn't get much rehearsal time or many takes if they didn't have permission to use the locations for long. I only discovered this films existence through the Benji and Rizzo (Pink popcast) and I've loved it since!

Gotta remember this was basically an indie project and all the budget went to like 5 actors. It was also meant to be a satire play on of popular movies at the time. The most obvious one being mean girls.
