Building a battery box, grounding, wiring starter circuits and getting power to my LS harness. All the good stuff for wiring my GEN IV LS engine in my 1981 Malibu. It's coming together, getting closer to running it every time I'm in the shop. Join me as I try to figure out how to sort out this wiring.

Hey there, great videos man! Lots of great information that will be helpful to me over the next few months. I bought an 83 Malibu wagon this past summer and have a 6.0 ls to install. I really appreciate you making these videos. I’m also about 40 mins from you I think. We should definitely stay in touch! I might have a few questions along the way. Cheers man and keep up the great work!

Glad you enjoyed and I hope they're helpful. I'll be swapping a 6.0 in my 57 truck this winter and that will be much of the same work, so I'll likely go over everything again. I have 10,000km on my Malibu since the swap and it works great.

I have a similar engine ls3, I did the electrics as you have in the video. We programmed the computer and turned off the "vats system". Unfortunately, the engine did not start. High voltage comes to the spark plugs, but no impulse comes to the injectors. Maybe you can advise me what could be the reason. Diagnostics shows me the error P0315. The sensor is working. Thank you very much in advance

There's alot of reading and research to do. It's not terribly difficult but you have to plan it well. Best of luck.

I'm trying to figure out how to wire the ac in my 82 elco with the ls swap, would you use the factory harness or the wires from the pcm
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 3 года назад
I don't have to do this for mine because I don't have air conditioning. My standalone harness has provisions for a/c that connect to the PCM. Hope that helps

What did you do with the brown wire from gauges to alternator?
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 2 года назад
If I recall correctly, it was not needed and I removed it. I am doing this exact same job on my 57 truck and I posted two videos on the wiring. I hope that helps.

Hey dude, im doing a 5.3LS swap into a formerly running driving 84 cutlass. On my first attempt, it wouldnt even crank over, all it did was make some clicking sounds I have constant battery power to the far left stud on LS fuseblock which also feeds factory car fuseblock. I have the LS harness main power and trigger wires hooked to starter. 1. I had the CAR starter trigger wire hooked up to C1- A9 as it seems to be only one i can find that goes hot in cranking mode of igntion switch does C1 B11 also need constant 12 v power as ignition switch kills power to key on power when cranking doesnt it or why does radio go off when cranking? 2. my vats arent deleted as im waiting for OBDlink lx to come in mail but it should still try and crank shouldnt it? 3. I do have re-worked grounds; my main battery ground is now on the head as well as what appears to be another ground hanging out of front drivers side wire loom underneath PS pump area. if i remember correctly both these grounds were attached to the block but had to be removed for the new LS adapter engine mounts to use that hole. My toer secondary battery ground is in the frame. Theres also a braided ground from TH350that i attached to the firewall like i think it was before along with another braided wire that was attached to the SBC 305 i believe[its now hanging as i cant see anywhere to put it back there, if i even need to? 4. i do have open headers yet but cant be my problem since it wont crank. So first thing i will do is hook up that other braided ground to back of head if i can get a bolt in there, its tight! But what else do u think i did wrong?
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 3 года назад
Sounds like an issue with the wiring in the car. You need a ground to the block and the chassis. As far as the rest, it sounds like a different set up than I have. I bought mine as a pre-made harness from the guy that supplied the engine. The part that gets me is the radio going off when cranking. It sounds like something isn't right in the car itself. Grounds are very important.

@@SlowCarFix ihave the car fuseblock wired directly to the battery and isnt it normal for pre computer era cars to kill run circuit while engine cranks?

@@kravmaga7070 not in my experience. I have my fuse block run directly to the battery as well.

@@SlowCarFix could it have anything to do with that one wire that goes to the tranny in a 4 pin square connector ? it seems to be a ground hooked together with another ground in a connector that has blue 12 v wire on other side which is opened or closed by im supposing is a vacum switch attached to the gas tank purge/vent can in front drivers side of engine bay. n oooo idea what this does?

Would you have some information on how to attach a G body wiring harness to the ls wiring
@SlowCarFix
@SlowCarFix 2 года назад
It doesn't really attach to the LS wiring. The only thing you really need from the car itself is power from the ignition switch. The oil pressure switch etc for the original engine is all eliminated. I think I cover it in one of the other videos.

@@SlowCarFix oh ok thank you what I’m going to do before I remove the original engine from the car i mark all the plug from the distributor oil pressure and all that stuff to know what plug i remove from the sensor one question im going to used a original automatic transmission from a 1500 silverado so I don’t have to eliminate the plug the go to the neutral switch right and thank you for reply
